W;hat is wrong with this picture? Don Yeah, Don. We are about 12 inches ahead of our normal 4 month average total and some areas are at least 20 inches ahead. To compare, we average about 34 inches of rain per year...most of the time. Part of the road into the CPM site was knee deep in water as late as Sunday afternoon. It's storming all to be damned out to the west about 100 miles with that and other storms moving this way. I had to go out about 80 miles west of Abilene yesterday and the croplands look like swamps. I would hate to be a farmer......anywhere. On Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002 the main downtown St. Louis Public Library, 1301 Olive St. in St. Louis will be hosting a Colonial Event. They are hosting a travelling exhibit on George Washington, however this event will focus on the period between approximately 1730 and 1800, either French or American.
There is no fee to participate - this will be an opportunity for you to share your love of living history with an audience that may not have much or any experience with rendezvous or living history events. People who really -like- answering questions about what they do and how traders/trappers/frontiersmen lived would probably have more fun than those who are less educationally minded.
Set-up could be as early as 8:30AM with teardown at 4-5PM that afternoon.
Water and bathrooms provided
If the weather is co-operative, there is some green space outside where you can set up. Otherwise, there is space for set-up indoors.
The event will be comparable to some of the living history events at Faust Park that the St. Louis County Parks department does, or the event at Shaw Arboretum in Pacific every other September.
