From: roc@xpresso.seaslug.org (Bill Vance) Subject: FCC Public File Auto-FAQ Date: 01 Sep 2000 04:56:44 PST This "FAQ" is auto-posted once a month via cron triggered script, and may be triggered off by hand from time to time in between if the info is requested by someone, such as when the House recently voted down the AW Ban and the Media threw a hissy fit. The purpose of this FAQ is to inform people what they can do about Media generated lies and misinformation. While the FCC only handles Broadcast Media, (TV and Radio), some of these techniques will work for magazines and newspapers too. If I've missed something, or you find errors, let me know and I'll add/fix it. 1.a. Send letters of complaint to the Station Manager every time it happens with all the time, details, other info, and your complaint(s). 1.b. Send an additional copy for their FCC (Federal Communications Commission) Public file. 1.c. Send an additional copy to the FCC itself, in case they don't put it in their Public file. 2.a. Send a letter of complaint to their Station Owner as per above, with copies as per above (1.b and 1.c). 3. Send copies of their replies to you along with yours to them to their FCC Public file, so that it gets nice and fat, again, with copies to the FCC itself. 4. If you can afford it, send all corespondence by Certified Mail with Return Receipt Requested. Send a copy of the Return Receipt with everything that goes to the FCC itself, so that they will have additional evidence if the Station is cheating on their Public File. 5.a. Go to the Public Library and look up "Standard Rate and Data Services" (SRDS) "Directory of National Advertisers." It is found in many major Libraries (in the business/reference stacks), and lists EVERY current advertiser, who the players are at both the company and advertising agency(s), and the appropriate telephone and fax (and probably E-Mail by now) addresses. If your Library doesn't have it, it can be requested. Otherwise you can watch their commercials for a few days to a week, listing all their advertisers. There are other references that have the addresses for the nation's business headquarters too. look them all up and pass the addresses and phone/FAX numbers etc., around so that everyone can bitch to the sponsors. IF enough people do that, it'll get back to the Station. Tell them if the Station continues their nastiness you'll _consider_ changing to brand(X), (otherwise they'll just write you off as a loss). 5.b. The above, (5.a.), can be a lot easier and less time consuming if you're dealing with a newspaper's or a magazine's ads, as they are right in front of you for the listing. 6. If they put on something good or even just more reasonable, call and compliment them on it, but do _not_ send any kudos to their FCC file, or write to them about it. That way they have to keep it up and hope, as there is nothing good in the file or in writing that they can show the FCC to justify their Station's License. 7. Valentine asked. =20 Valentine's investigation has centered around Wilson County Sheriff Terry Ashe, currently facing allegations in a civil racketeering case of having used his position as sheriff to harass and intimidate his political rival, Dewey Lineberry, and using his powers to damage Lineberry's real estate business. =20 According to federal court documents submitted in the civil racketeering case, the "Hillbilly Mafia" is an informal organization of Tennessee business and elected officials who operate near Gore's hometown of Carthage, Tenn. =20 Critics say the group's members use their influence and positions to engage in illegal or legal-but-questionable activities by harassing and threatening business competitors and political opponents alike. =20 In a filing for the racketeering trial, Ashe admitted to keeping 140 head of cattle on Al Gore's Carthage, Tenn., farm, which serves as surety for a $71,000 negative balance on a joint investment account held by MAC Farms, a venture owned by Ashe and fellow "Hillbilly Mafia" members Monty Mires and Jimmy Comer, at the Gore-owned Community Bank of Carthage. =20 The mere mention of cows raises eyebrows in rural Tennessee political circles. In their book, "Prince Albert: The Life and Lies of Al Gore," David Bossie and Floyd Brown relate how Gore's father, Al Gore Sr., during his tenure as a U.S. senator, used to host cattle auctions for lobbyists and other influence peddlers at the Carthage family farm. While the cattle would be purchased at staggering prices, the cattle would always remain on the farm to be sold again at the next auction. =20 After Valentine brought up the alleged connections between the "Hillbilly Mafia" and Gore, Ashe began calling station officials to pressure them to clamp down on Valentine. =20 The station was reluctant to interfere, which prompted Ashe to contact his attorney to subpoena audio recordings of the programs and any related documents, even after Valentine allowed Ashe to come on his show to give his side of the story. =20 But Valentine told WorldNetDaily that he suspected the legal tactics were designed to obtain information about his confidential sources that have given him documents and other information related to his investigation. =20 "They are clearly trying to get at my sources, which I am never going to divulge. Ashe and his goons can subpoena us all day long, but we're not going to allow our contacts to be subjected to the abuse that the Hillbilly Mafia is able to inflict," Valentine said. "We'll be glad to give them copies of the show, but we are not going to let these thugs intimidate us or the folks who were brave enough to come forward with this information." =20 Ashe's attorney, Rebecca Demaree, confirmed for WorldNetDaily that she had subpoenaed WLAC for the audio recordings of Valentine's comments about the racketeering trial and for any documents related to the case. =20 In the on-air interview with Valentine last week, Ashe admitted to the group's bovine business arrangement with Gore. =20 "Well, sure I have cows on Al Gore's farm. Al's an old friend of mine. I've been trying to sell him cows for years," Ashe said. =20 But Ashe vigorously denied in his interview that the racketeering trial is moving ahead. =20 "Now, the judge hasn't allowed anything to go forward. It has not been upheld to go forward to trial, so again your information is wrong," Ashe said. =20 Demaree, his attorney, told WorldNetDaily that U.S. District Judge Robert Echols had dismissed some of the charges alleged in the racketeering lawsuit, but that additional charges are still being investigated while Lineberry's attorneys conduct discovery on the claims. Because the matter is still pending, she couldn't comment specifically about the case. =20 Ashe is also accused of conspiring to cover up the beating and hospitalization of an underage female high school student allegedly assaulted by one of Ashe's deputies, by threatening and conducting regular surveillance on the girl. When the girl was called recently as a witness in an unrelated slander case against Ashe, she refused to testify for fear of reprisals against her and her family. Those allegations are also part of the forthcoming racketeering trial. =20 When Valentine asked about his alleged participation in covering up the girl's beating, Ashe flatly denied any involvement, "If I'd done that, I should have been prosecuted." =20 One Wilson County elected official, who spoke to WorldNetDaily anonymously for fear of retaliation by Hillbilly Mafia members, said that threats and intimidation are common methods used by the group to cover up their questionable business dealings. "The members of the Hillbilly Mafia get sloppy in how they handle their affairs because they are confident in the protection that Gore would give them if they got into a jam," the informant told WorldNetDaily. "These guys are known for getting into trouble, so they have to resort to threatening everyone and everybody to keep it from getting out. But it seems like that policy is finally catching up with them." =20 The informant claimed to have been personally subject to threats made by one Hillbilly Mafia member, Monty Mires -- one of the business partners in the MAC Farms venture that keeps the herd of cattle at Gore's farm. =20 Another source, also speaking anonymously out of fear of retribution, claimed to have been subjected to the group's threats, as part of a pattern of intimidation, and added that the group operates under the presumption of Gore's protection. =20 Despite what he sees as the intense pressure that Gore and his "old friends" can bring to bear on the radio station and his family, Valentine vowed to stay on the case. =20 "The people I've talked with in Wilson County are very much aware of the Hillbilly Mafia, and it's apparently a very real and very dangerous organized criminal element. And it's not only the sheriff, but several other Gore business associates who are alleged members," Valentine said. "Now, I couldn't care less who the people of Wilson County choose as their sheriff, but I believe the American people have a right to know who their vice-president is in business with." =20 As reported in WorldNetDaily, Valentine was part of a quartet of Nashville talk radio personalities who took on Gov. Don Sundquist last June after Sundquist attempted to push an unpopular state income-tax proposal through the legislature, prompting massive tax protests. =20 Another alleged member of the Hillbilly Mafia, Wilson County Road Superintendent Steve Armistead, also has close ties to Gore, having stood on the platform with the vice president during his speech to the Democratic National Convention held in Los Angeles two weeks ago. =20 According to several ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: roc@xpresso.seaslug.org (Bill Vance) Subject: FATAL BLINDNESS (fwd) Date: 03 Sep 2000 15:10:41 PST On Sep 03, Rich Martin wrote: [-------------------- text of forwarded message follows --------------------] From the Home of Rich & Peggy Martin Grand Prairie, TX 75050 RichSlick@aol.com It's nice to be important, but it's important to be nice. _______________________________________________ INTRODUCTORY COMMENTARY What do you call a country where the govt owns=20 everything, communist or fascist? =20 Rich Martin Editor of Slick ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ FATAL BLINDNESS =20 =20 The immoral and reckless indifference of so much of the =20 American public to statists obliterating freedom in one area after=20 another brings to mind the quote attributed to Protestant=20 minister Martin Neimoller, who reflected upon Germany=E2=80=99s fall=20 to the Nazis: "In Germany they came first for the Communists,=20 and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Braceras, 9/7/2000=20 When will the liberal media stop treating left-wing ideology as a proxy for intelligence? For months the press has questioned the intellect of Republican candidate George W. Bush, while describing Al Gore as ''serious,'' ''intellectual'' - even ''wonkish.'' The basis for the media's unfair attacks on Bush's intelligence is his 30-year-old Yale College transcript (purloined last fall and published by The New Yorker). Yet The Washington Post's subsequent revelation of Gore's unimpressive academic record has done little to alter the media's false portrayal of Gore as ''the smartest kid in the class.'' It is a record that is worth reviewing, if only to debunk the myth of Gore as a serious student. Gore's undergraduate transcript from Harvard is riddled with C's, including a C-minus in introductory economics, a D in one science course, and a C-plus in another. ''In his sophomore year at Harvard,'' the Post reported, ''Gore's grades were lower than any semester recorded on Bush's transcript from Yale.'' Moreover, Gore's graduate school record - consistently glossed over by the press - is nothing short of shameful. In 1971, Gore enrolled in Vanderbilt Divinity School where, according to Bill Turque, author of ''Inventing Al Gore,'' he received F's in five of the eight classes he took over the course of three semesters. Not surprisingly, Gore did not receive a degree from the divinity school. Nor did Gore graduate from Vanderbilt Law School, where he enrolled for a brief time and received his fair share of C's. (Bush went on to earn an MBA from Harvard). But whereas the liberal press has described Bush's college days as a time of misspent youth, media accounts of Gore's undergraduate years are grossly fawning. (The New York Times: ''As Mr. Bush was frolicking around Yale, a young man named Al Gore was studying at Harvard''; ''Harvard nurtured the part of [Gore] that is in love with the world of ideas.'' The New Republic: ''At Harvard, Gore set himself formidable intellectual challenges.'') And then there is the laughable October issue of Psychology Today. As part of a cover story entitled, ''Gore and Bush on the Couch,'' the magazine reports the results of a spurious ''analysis'' of 10 of the candidates speeches and/or interviews. The authors claim that the study ''verifies'' the popular stereotype that ''Bush is not as deep a thinker as Gore.'' Two pages later, readers will be shocked - shocked! - to learn that the magazine's (no doubt scientific) study of the candidates' facial gestures reveals that Gore is the ''more serious, constrained, controlled, weighty, ponderous, [and] dominant of the two candidates.'' More ponderous, perhaps =2E.. but, please, spare me the pop psychology. Biased reporters, however, are not the only ones to blame. Indeed, the vice president himself has cultivated this genius persona (one of many). Thus, he did not correct PBS News anchor Gwen Ifill when she referred to him as a graduate of Vanderbilt Law School. Even more significant was the line in Gore's convention acceptance speech in which he stated, ''I know my own imperfections. I know that sometimes people say I'm too serious, that I talk too much substance and policy.'' Poor Al, he's just too smart for the job. Of course, the stereotyping of conservative candidates as dumb and liberal candidates as ''brilliant'' is nothing new. During the 1950s, the media lionized Democrat Adlai Stevenson as an intellectual, while ridiculing Republican Dwight Eisenhower as an ineffectual simpleton. Back then, the members of the press knew full well that Stevenson attended Harvard Law School and, yet, had not received a degree. But the media gave Stevenson a pass. (Sound familiar?) Had resourceful journalists investigated, they might have learned (as we now know from Stevenson's biographer John Bartlow Martin) that Harvard Law School Dean Erwin Griswold had hidden Stevenson's transcript in a locked cabinet in his office. What was he hiding? Stevenson, the so-called ''thinking man's candidate,'' had, in fact, flunked out of Harvard Law. In the end, neither intellect nor academic performance is an especially important criterion by which to judge our presidents. Ronald Reagan and Harry Truman were no scholars, but they rank among the best presidents in our country's history. And what about many liberals' favorite president - Franklin Roosevelt? Social, popular, and famously unserious as an undergraduate at Harvard, FDR had an undistinguished academic record. Yet, later in life, Roosevelt's charisma and his ability to persuade, compromise, and lead helped him to become a ''reformer with results.'' This election is not an I.Q. test; it is about which candidate has better judgment. And that is why, despite the media's love affair with the celluloid image of Al Gore the policy-wonk, it is the affable, authentic, and sensible Bush who would make the better leader. Jennifer C. It's Concerned Citizens Opposed to Police States - we call it CCOPS. What is a police state? Basically, you have a police state when you have a large central government power structure that tells the people what to do. In a police state, you are required to do certain things - and you are prohibited from doing most anything else. You live in fear of failing to do what's required, and of being caught for doing something that's not allowed. Aren't all governments like that? No. The Founders' vision was a government that protected the rights of individual citizens to life, liberty and property. They built a nation of laws that established the rules of the game in which free people function and interact voluntarily. That means freedom in the home, freedom in the marketplace, freedom in your backyard. A society with a limited government, whose job is to keep the peace among free people, is not a police state. What does CCOPS do? CCOPS has one broad purpose: to oppose the formation of police states anywhere in the world. It especially focuses on the United States and North America, because that is where CCOPS is based. Opposing police states and preventing them from arising are powerful ways to protect every individual's rights to life, liberty, property and the pursuit of happiness. Why was CCOPS formed? CCOPS is not limited to charitable or educational functions, so CCOPS can advocate or criticize legislation and political candidates. While JPFO remains dedicated by law to its vital educational purpose, CCOPS can charge onto the battlefield on many issues without legal concerns forced upon us by the government. CCOPS bought its freedom from government control by giving up the tax exempt charitable/educational status. People have clamored for JPFO to take positions on political issues and candidates, but JPFO must not do that. CCOPS can - CCOPS will. Does America need CCOPS? Absolutely yes. At this moment CCOPS is gathering together the data showing how America's society and government are taking on the qualities of a police state. Speech codes. Political correctness. Persecution of disfavored minorities. Central government dictating the details of the lives and conduct of private citizens. Agencies developing technology and arming agents to track, snoop, restrict, license, tax, regulate, register and harass the citizens. Campaigns of coordinated disinformation. Destruction of core values that support individual liberty by engines of the state. CCOPS changes the way people see the problem. Most Americans don't know anything about the Bill of Rights. Showing that government edict or program violates the Bill of Rights doesn't seem to excite too many Americans. But whether they consider themselves leftist or rightist, nearly all Americans will understand when CCOPS unmasks a "police state policy." And that's exactly how CCOPS can generate public outrage - and action. Does CCOPS attack police officers? No. CCOPS applauds the police officers who carry out their vital duties to keep the peace in our society. CCOPS welcomes and actively seeks members from the ranks of the police and military services. When necessary, CCOPS will not hesitate to expose individuals who trample our Bill of Rights. Most of the men and women who serve as peace officers and in the armed forces understand their key role in our society, and they respect the limits of their duties. The more these people understand how a free society operates and the dangers of a police state, the safer we all become with their help. Why should people join CCOPS? To take a stand against police state policies. To stop Big Brother before he moves in permanently. To combat the fascist and socialist ideas that underlie the seemingly endless expansion of big government. To protect ourselves, our children and our nation from the horrors that befall a land that allows itself to become a police state. If you are against Sarah Brady, Charlie Schumer and other freedom-haters, then you are for CCOPS. You must choose: Will it be a police state? Or will it be an America run for and by the Bill of Rights? Join us. Sign up today. The Constitution is Not Gumby,' FRC's Jan Larue Says WASHINGTON, Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- In order to counteract the alarming trend of judicial activism, Family Research Council announced a national "Courting Justice Campaign" dedicated to judicial reform. "The federal judiciary has been increasingly courting injustice with activist decisions that distort the Constitution," said Jan LaRue, senior director of Legal Studies at the Family Research Council (FRC). "The 'Courting Justice Campaign' is a movement dedicated to establishing a judiciary that is free from the forces of power politics and personal views, and bound only by the U.S. Constitution." "A judicial activist is a judge who interprets the Constitution to mean what it would have said if he, instead of the Founding Fathers, had written it," said the late Sen. Sam Ervin of North Carolina. "Judges are supposed to interpret the Constitution-not bend it, twist it, or tie it in knots to advance an agenda," said Mrs. LaRue. "The Constitution is not Gumby." Partnering in the campaign are Family Research Council, Free Congress Foundation, and Eagle Forum's Court Watch. The goals and step-by-step plans of the campaign are outlined in a new publication, "Courting Justice: A Guide to Judicial Reform." The guide describes rulings that evidence the growing trend of judicial activism, outlines the personnel and procedures of the courts that contribute to the problem, and suggests pro-active measures Americans can take to combat injustice in judging. The "Courting Justice" guide concludes with the proposal of a "Five for the Future Plan," which outlines the game-plan for initiating judicial reform in America. The five tenets of the plan are: * Block confirmation of activist/liberal judges * Promote U.S. senators' signing of the "Hatch Pledge" against judicial activism * Promote state legislative passage of judicial restraint resolutions * Eliminate judicial power to tax * Require, as a minimum, a unanimous vote of a three-judge panel to invalidate citizen-passed initiatives. "Injustice in judging is a rampant problem in America, but it is also a resolvable problem. In the 2000 elections, Americans can choose to elect a President and senators who will faithfully appoint judges who aren't closet legislators," Mrs. LaRue said. The next President will likely be called on to nominate two to three justices to the Supreme Court. Liberal activist groups, including Planned Parenthood and the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League, have also singled out Supreme Court appointments as a priority issue at stake in the November presidential elections, coining "Nine for the Future" and "It's the Supreme Court, Stupid," as slogans for the fall. "With pro-abortion and other liberal groups advocating greater judicial activism to create more 'rights' never conceived by our Founders, the stakes are even higher in a campaign for judicial reform," Mrs. LaRue said. The authors of "Courting Justice," and co-directors of the campaign are Family Research Council's Jan LaRue, Thomas Jipping, Vice-President for Legal Policy at the Free Congress Foundation, and Virginia Armstrong, National Chairman of Eagle Forum's Court Watch. Brown September 13, 2000 Members of the great American gun culture who actively enjoyed their sport and celebrated their firearms heritage were once considered the backbone of America, both for their militarily valuable shooting skills and for their patriotism. Decades of deliberate attacks by politicians and the media have slowly relegated this important group to the status of a subculture that now feels out of place and at war with its own government. Prior to 1934 there were no federal gun control laws. There was only an odd assortment of gun laws in various states and cities which were intended to disarm racial minorities and immigrants. As far as the federal government was concerned, anyone was free to buy a machine gun or even a cannon, and the level of gun crime was relatively low. Since the National Firearms Act was signed into law in 1934, the number of gun control laws at all levels of government have multiplied exponentially. So has the overall crime rate, which some argue is a direct result of gun control laws that discourage self-defense. Although none of these laws reduced crime, each new law creates another way that a well intentioned gun owner can inadvertently end up in prison or ruined by legal costs. Some have been killed in raids by government agents. Much like laws passed to promote the failed war on drugs, each new gun law gives the police additional powers that threaten basic constitutional rights. America's lawful gun owners are painfully aware of these facts. Since gun laws don't reduce crime, they wonder, what is the real purpose? This question has led to numerous theories that attempt to explain why the "ruling elite", which includes the media and many politicians, would want to eliminate civilian gun ownership in America. American gun owners feel as if they are being slowly crushed. One writer recently described this decades-long campaign as a slow motion hate crime. Frustration has been building in the gun culture for thirty years and has been accelerating with the faster pace of anti-gun attacks and the dramatic improvement in communications. Stories of outrageous persecution by government agencies now circulate like wildfire via the internet. Anti-gun bills introduced in any legislature are instantly made known to millions. Gun owners know the major players in the anti-gun lobby as well as they know the villains in their favorite movies. Several successful novels have tapped into this frustration. The best known is "Unintended Consequences" by John Ross. This popular 861 page semi-fictional work details the noble history of the gun culture and how it has been attacked. The hero, Henry Bowman, is a talented engineer, gifted marksman, and gun collector who holds his temper for years in the face of growing bureaucratic oppression. He is finally forced to kill a team of heavily armed federal firearms agents who are planting evidence to incriminate a fellow gun collector. At this point, in the best cowboy tradition, Bowman leads a bloody covert revolution against the "jackbooted thugs" of the federal bureaucracy. Ross uses the old stereotype of the American cowboy who is slow to anger and just wants to be left alone. This highlights the way in which the old fashioned values of the gun culture (truth, honor, tolerance, and personal responsibility) are in conflict with our current government. He also offers a scenario that holds great fascination for many gun owners who pass his book from hand to hand saying, "You've got to read this book." Some observers of this cultural war wonder why large numbers of gun owners have not yet resorted to violence to preserve their way of life. Civil wars have started over less. Almost every gathering of lawful gun owners has a deep undercurrent of anger. They see each new gun law as a way to harass them and make it more difficult for everyone except criminals and the government to own guns. Solid, productive citizens complain bitterly about how good people have been arrested for unintentional violations of the myriad of gun laws. Each wonders if he could be next. Although this group has been involuntarily radicalized, there are several things holding back a violent response. One is the fact that gun owners are a very law abiding group of people. They have a deep faith in the Constitution and are willing to give the political process a chance to balance itself. The second is that leaders of gun rights organizations, such as the NRA, are promising relief through the political system. The third reason is that the leaders of the anti-gun lobby are masters of propaganda and would gleefully exploit any minor incidents to further harm gun rights. It would take a massive wave of violent protests to affect any positive change. Nobody knows if, when or how this group will reach its breaking point, but one must question the wisdom of infuriating millions of armed citizens. ------------------------ Dr. Michael S. The government of Australia has pulled out of the UN treaty monitoring system. This means they will no longer cow-tow to unelected "experts" who tell them how to run their own country. And this points up the essential powerlessness of UN commissions. All it takes is one government saying "no." Perhaps this is a harbinger of more good news to come. Spread the word. The government announced it was capable of monitoring its own human rights record. * UN documents are mostly aspirational documents with no force in law yet they establish committees to oversee implementation of treaties before which governments must periodically appear. These committees also send "special rappateurs" to investigate the country within its own borders. * Governmental complaints to this system are growing and are multi-faceted. They complain UN treaties have begun to assert international standards that have the force of law. In some cases national courts have begun to adjudicate using non-binding UN instruments. At the very least, governments are put under tremendous pressure to succumb not just to the letter of the document, but also what the unelected monitoring committee determines is its spirit. * The most controversial examples of what some see as overreaching by a UN committee come from the one established by the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW). Although the CEDAW document condemns prostitution, the CEDAW committee directed China to legalize it. Although CEDAW does not mention abortion, the committee criticized Ireland for having restrictive abortion laws. The committee directed Kyrgystan to legalize prostitution, and criticized Belarus for instituting Mother's Day. In what may be the oddest directive, the CEDAW committee directed Libya to reinterpret the Koran in order to fall within committee guidelines. * Governments also complain about the growing and some say menacing role of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in deciding UN policy and in pursuing what they see as human rights miscreants. NGOs frequently run investigations of their own and then approach UN treaty monitoring bodies to bring the recalcitrant government into line. * The move of Australia should be seen within this context. Australia's specific complaint comes from what it sees as unfair criticism from UN bodies and NGOs over its treatment of Aborigines and asylum seekers. The government began a review of the treaty monitoring system last March. It's report found that UN human rights treaty bodies "need a complete overhaul." The report singled out for criticism the role of NGOs, which frequently override the role of "democratically elected governments." The report, issued by Alexander Downer, Minister for Foreign Affairs, also insists the "treaty committee system work within its mandate." * It is believed this is the first time a government has pulled out of the treaty monitoring system. Given the frequently odd reports of the treaty committees the move by Australia may embolden other governments to follow suit. * Pro-life Australians give credit for this move to a conservative NGO, Endeavour Forum. Tom Adkins the Common Conservative 9/15/00 Tom Adkins Link---> commonconservative.com Here they come again. Like your cousin the angry drunk who can't hold a steady job, Kofi Annan, Tony Blair, Jacques Chirac, Jiang Zeming, Vladimir Putin, and the rest of the United Nations are once again beating on our door at 3 AM, demanding Americans bail them out. Whatsa matter, boys ... no cash? Socialism is out of money again, and they need to tap the capitalist piggy bank. No doubt, the rest of the world is in various states of misery. 10% of Europe is unemployed. AIDS is spreading through impoverished Africa. Mobsters rule Russia. South America is wracked by perpetual civil wars. The great Asian economy has fallen into the ocean. But Americans haven't dropped bombs on Japan or Europe recently. And we aren't burning down businesses in Africa or South America. The rest of the world is actually doing a wonderful job of ruining themselves by climbing into bed with the UN socialists. Now, they want America to drink Marxist flavored Kool-Aid with them. The past 100 years proved planned economies run by elite pointy-headed bureaucrats haven't worked, and taking money from hard working people and giving it to couch potatoes only works at the business end of an AK-47. Yet virtually every nation on earth has taken the sucker bet socialism offers. When nothing works and the people starve, they come crying to America for money. And every year, the United States coughs up billion-dollar band-aids to save the world, most of which lines the pockets of mobsters and tin-pot dictators. Besides, with any calculator, you can discover that taking every cent from every American would feed the world for about two days. Wouldn't it make more sense to demand these countries became capitalists? John Stossell recently pointed out the more controlled an economy is, the greater it fails. Starting a business in India takes decades while bureaucrats sift through paperwork, one hand buried in red-tape maw, the other outstretched to grease the skids. Meanwhile, Hong Kong is a craggy little rock in the South China Sea with virtually no resources, 20 times more densely populated than the most poverty-stricken corner of India, and almost equal to the United States in personal income. Starting a business in Hong Kong takes about 10 minutes for a license, and everyone pays a flat 15% income tax. The case against socialism is clear. So why should we throw a cash lifeline to nations that insist upon screwing up, when they could just set their people free and get the hell out of the way? Thomas Sowell discovered our domestic liberal socialists are no different. They proclaim an "emergency," demand money for programs that don't work, blame the failure on people who make the money, then demand more money for more programs that don't work. Sadly, even the extraordinarily naïve Bill Clinton has joined the annoying parade of global losers, forcing the American Taxpayer to become an ATM machine for failed socialists. He still doesn't understand his administration was rescued when Republicans cut taxes and reformed welfare, then watched the grumbling moochers go out and get jobs created by the resulting great economy. You'd think trying the same approach for the rest of the world would be obvious. Winston Churchill once proclaimed capitalism was the unequal distribution of wealth and socialism was the equal distribution of misery. Yet in the heady days of post-WW2, the United Nations was founded with a vision of a globally unified economy, managed by - who else? - the brilliant folks at the United Nations, of course. Since then, we conducted a 45-year worldwide economic experiment, proving conclusively Churchill was right. Even the Euro, Europe's united currency, keeps falling in relation to the Dollar. Carrying an immense tax burden and a bureaucratic boulder on their backs, European workers cannot compete with American workers in world markets. And European socialism is the best the world can offer. While capitalism leads the way, the rest of the world is mired in a Marxist/communist/socialist mess. So what is the United Nations calling for in the year 2000? A controlled, one-world economy. Where do they get the money to pay for it? The free-trading capitalists who actually make money. As usual, the attack on people who pull the wagon is led by the bums riding inside the wagon. If the UN wants to be an arena to air minor grievances or settle squabbles, that's fine. But if they want to sucker the United States into a miserable worldwide socialist "utopia" like the rest of the world, forgive me if I pull out my copy of the Constitution, then point to the financial page of the Wall Street Journal and smirk. These Marxist mooches are demanding our capitalist money to pay for their perpetually failing one-world dreams. Like your loser cousin, we should kick these power-drunk elitists off our porch, and scream in unison "GET A JOB, YOU LOSERS!!!" Here's the TRT website http://www.trteam.com/ and Rob Noel's Personal Site http://www.eaglesup.com/ NOTE:MMM have been told to NOT (HA HA!) get into constitutional debates.. Sincerely, Kim Missouri Coordinator ----------------- Thoughts on the Million Mom March Convention in Denver Exclusive to The Partisan by Bob Glass The first Million Mom March National Convention took place at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, in Denver Colorado on Friday September 15th and Saturday, September 16th.. What we saw and what we learned , opened our eyes wide, to the enormous threat that we are facing from those who would trash the Bill Of Rights and take away our guns, in the name of "protecting the children". There were aspects of this gathering, that reinforced already-held beliefs and suspicions about the Million Mom March and its agenda, and we discovered new things that came as a complete surprise. Following the cardinal rule of warfare, which is "know thy enemy", we had members of the Tyranny Response Team pose as Million Mom wannabees, and had them register for both days of the meeting. We wanted to have a lot of people infiltrate their meeting, because as we checked their schedule prior to the meeting itself, we learned that they would break the main body of attendees (about 350) into separate workshops and seminars. We wanted to be able to tape and take notes of all of the various seminars, but because they ran five seminars concurrently, we had to decide which ones were the most important. They were charging $100. per head to attend the convention, and in addition to the fact, that the notion of giving these Fascists even a dime was repugnant, our finances are severely limited. Thusly, we had to settle for only two. The idea was, that if one of our women got into trouble, there would be someone else there to run interference for her, or at the very least, give us a call and tell us what was happening. This may sound a bit melodramatic, for if one or both of our ladies got caught, the very worst that could have happened, is that they would have been asked to leave. These women were showing a lot of courage, and a little back-up never hurts. The seminar attendees were given periodic breaks for meals and free time, and as we had rooms in the hotel, we were able to meet with our women periodically and debrief them, on what was going on. There were moments, when each of them didn't want to continue. Their emotions ran from fear to shock, to disgust, to outrage. They both were afraid, that they would not be able to control themselves, and might begin screaming and ranting at these women, they so affectionately named, the "Commie Mommies. They turned out to be real troopers, however, and each of them stayed the course and played their role perfectly through the very end. They even joked about how many new "friends they made, and who they expected to get e-mail and phone calls from. Quite frankly, these fine, courageous women of the TRT, who volunteered to do this thing, ended up with some very strong conflicting emotions. Despite the fact that the MMM convention reaffirmed how great a threat these statists pose to our liberty, on a personal note, they took a strong liking to many of the women, and felt a strange sense of betrayal, ingratiating themselves to them, under such false pretenses. In addition, they felt that even though these women are being utterly deceived and manipulated by tyrants and power brokers, the women themselves, are for the most part, well-intentioned ladies and the TRT women had ambivalent feelings about gathering information about them, that ultimately will be used to defeat them. Having said, all that, the process of debriefing these gals, turned into more of an emotional roller coaster, than any of us could have foreseen. The main point that they both stressed from their two day experience, was that the MMM is much better funded, organized, motivated and connected, than any of us had imagined. The sheer volume of literature that we collected would tend to confirm this. The brochures were slick and very professionally done. Some of them were in color and printed on heavy glossy paper. They covered a wide variety of subjects including all aspects of the gun control debate and every facet of fund raising, organizing, dealing with the press, legal concerns, security matters, and more. One of the things that our ladies found particularly worrisome is the emphasis that the MMM are placing on our youth. Clearly a disproportionate amount of their efforts are aimed at our young people. Donna Dees Thomases, much to our surprise, was not the center of attention. Despite her impressive credentials as a press representative for CBS News and two Democratic Louisiana Senators, Thomases was a nervous, pudgy middle-aged woman, who looked strangely out of place in her ill-fitting blue jeans. It appeared that Rebecca Brown, the very same Rebecca Brown who founded MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers), supplied both the spiritual energy and certainly the lobbying experience and expertise at their convention. She appeared quite tired, however and was noticed taking Advil at the banquet. In a back handed compliment to the TRT, she said that the MMM would make it a priority to "shame the TRT, in the same way that MADD shamed drunk divers. Good luck, Becky. We learned that the MMM is rolling in dough. They received a million dollars from the Packard foundation and a staggering five million from the Emma Goldman foundation, and a million dollars from.., not to mention all of the ten and twenty dollar checks and cash that must be flooding their post office boxes. They had to have raised about $35,000. from the convention alone. They had three professional video camera crews filming every facet of their convention, as well as a still photographer who they contracted independently. Their security man is a retired Secret Service agent (much more on him to come soon), who in his brash arrogance, stressed the point in his seminar on security to "know your enemy". I suppose we were just following his advice. The rest of his talk was classic threat assessment kind of stuff. Despite the fact that they maintain a non-partisan political makeup, in the end, the MMM clearly and enthusiastically endorsed the candidacy of Al Gore"what a surprise. What truly was a surprise, is that many of the Million Moms casually admitted that their husbands owned guns, and in a few instances, so did they. The leadership bent over backwards to emphasize and re-emphasize the fact that the MMM does not want to confiscate all guns. They did however, admit that certain actions taken in California, did result in the banning and confiscation of a number of guns labeled as "assault rifles". They claim to simply want to outlaw what they call "junk guns" and "assault rifles". They want gun owners to be federally licensed, photographed, finger print ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: roc@xpresso.seaslug.org (Bill Vance) Subject: The Liberty Group (TLG) in Congress-who they are! TLG will initiate its own constitutionally-sound legislative agenda. We are thousands of people throughout our country who have come together to join The Liberty Committee. They want federal legislation, because of how easy it is for people to cross state lines and buy guns in states with more liberal laws than their own. This point in particular, was driven home by women from Westchester, New York, who also noted how different the gun culture was in Colorado than in their home state. Despite their reasons for federal legislation, they are somewhat inexplicably focusing on state lobbying efforts. Clearly the majority of the seminars, as well as the literature given to all attendees was geared for organizing and lobbying on a state level. In private conversations, there were some women who confessed to wanting an end to all private gun ownership, but astonishingly enough, most of the women favored strict control, licensing and regulation, as opposed to outright prohibition and confiscation. It is interesting to note, that in their talking points, they made it clear that the Second Amendment, was to be skirted, or better yet, ignored altogether in debate. They advised the Million Moms to veer away from Constitutional arguments, and drive home the point that gun violence is a social issue, and like cancer is a social disease, which we as a society must deal with collectively. It is therefore not too surprising that a disproportionate number of attendees were in the health care profession, from nurses, trauma counselors, psychologists and so on. They emphasized that the term "well regulated" in the Second Amendment didn't mean well stocked (as we know it did, from a myriad of sources) but rather, it meant well controlled by the government, which is what they claim gives them license to enact their entire agenda, and encourage their flock to fall back on, when challenged by pro gun rights people. What seemed to have an ironic sense of justice to it, is the fact that many of the Million Moms were victims of their own propaganda. They were busy making jokes about the TRT, how we must have eaten lead paint as children, and our parents are related by blood, and we are the products of inbreeding and a shallow gene pool and all of the other mindless, evasive humor they love to belittle their opponents with. They truly believe that we are red neck Neanderthal types, truly incapable of reason, articulation and cognitive reasoning. The majority of them are physically afraid of us, and a story was told about how some Million Moms in Kentucky were intimidated by some people they described as NRA militia types, menacingly patting their hips. It was quite evident throughout the weekend, as we walked through the hotel with our TRT T shirts on, that all the Million Moms who saw us, were physically intimidated. In once case, a Commie Mommie, who was waiting for an elevator refused to go inside, when one of our guys got in, wearing his T-shirt. He held the door for her, but she shook her head and said condescendingly, that she would just a soon wait for the next one. Towards the end of the seminar, they gave time tables for how long they estimated it would take them to achieve their three main objectives, of national registration, federal licensing and the outlawing of "junk guns and "assault rifles. They said that they felt six to eight years was realistic, with an outside chance of four years, if a few things went their way. One of the things that was repeated over and over, was how the media ate up everything that they did, and how cooperative and sympathetic the media was in all of their events and press conferences. Motherhood and protecting children is a great glove to put over the fist of tyranny that is about to smash the last vestige of the Second Amendment. What the women both mysteriously said, was that by the end of the two days, they both felt "brainwashed. I was perplexed and a little frightened by what they meant by that, and asked each one, if they had doubts, or second thoughts about the stand of the TRT. They both emphatically said "No, but that they felt like they had come out of a Tony Robbins seminar, or an Amway seminar, or an other cult like atmosphere. They said that the Million Moms left the seminar completely psyched and ready to do battle. Perhaps this is all in preparation for yet another sequel to The Stepford Wives. All of their media people, lobbyists, speakers, organizers, photographers, are seasoned professionals. They literally have the very best that money can buy. They are stacked with folks who have worked in many, many liberal causes and campaigns and take many years of experience with them to the political arena. The Million Mom March is anything but a grass roots group of angry housewives and mothers, wanting to protect the children. The Million Mom March is a very well organized, extremely well-funded, professionally coached and directed group that is not about to go away any time soon. They make great efforts to stack the deck with a Republican here, and a gun owner there, but there is no question that the rank and file of the MMM consists of the liberal wing of the Democratic Party, and despite specific protestations from Donna Dees Thomases to the contrary, there is little question in my mind, that the Million Mom March's agenda is being carefully orchestrated from the DNC (Democratic National Committee), if not the White House, itself. We are up against a formidable foe, indeed. This is no collection of naïve, Alice in Wonderland, women with Tie died T-shirts and granny glasses, tip toeing through the tulips. This is a professional, seasoned, well-oiled political machine, that is connected to the highest echelons of power, and has an apparently inexhaustible source of funding. In addition, the Million Mom March can tap into a deep well of easily emotionally swayed women foot soldiers, who are enthusiastically prepared to do their bidding for them. They are playing to a very sympathetic, if not complicitous media, having their strings of motherhood and maternal concern, pulled by the best politicos and lobbyists that money can buy. The Million Mom March is opening new chapters around the country faster than Starbucks. The right of the American people to keep and bear arms is under the greatest assault since the birth of this nation. Under the guise of motherhood and protecting the children, those who want to destroy the Second Amendment and our way of life, have found the perfect useful idiots to wage their war for them. Those of us who make fun of, or belittle the Million Mom March, do so at our own risk. Their leaders know how to manipulate the media, lobby the politicians, and assassinate the character of their opposition. They learned their trade, after all from the master, Bill Clinton. I don't know what else I can say, to prod those of us who cherish our freedom, to get off our ass and take notice of what is going on. Our ladies went straight into the belly of the beast, and stared directly into the face of evil. Just seeing the expressions on their faces, as they poured out the details of their two day adventure, made my blood run cold. This is for real, folks. They have no intention of giving up. We will have further detailed reports on the Million Mom convention shortly. The time for complacency is over Editor Bob Glass Dr. Michael S. COA is a California tax exempt non-profit corporation that is running a national pro-gun rights, pro-self defense media ca "If you're an average citizen, you've never seen or heard anything like our ads," says COA president Brian Puckett. "We go for the emotional jugular first, and follow with an appeal to reason." A good example is their radio ad called 911 Hell. "On the surface, COA ads are about the right to own and carry guns," Puckett continues, "but the underlying messages are issues that seize everyone's attention, no matter what their political inclination - the right to self-defense, the impossibility of r selfishness of politicians elevating their own lives above the lives of other citizens." COA ads are intended for the general public. "We don't preach to the choir by putting ads in gun magazines, we don't give money to elected politicians to keep supporting the Constitution, we don't hire lobbyists to plead with any public officials to obey COA believes that even if the ads don't completely convince voters that guns are good, they can still effectively alter the political equation, "Basically, our ads can help move guns off voters' and politicians' radar screen. For a closer look at this str Even though COA isn't yet a year old, and has yet to take in even a fraction of the funds that established gun rights organizations bring in, they have an impressive track record. Their ads have run in 43 states on well over 300 radio stations. The ads ar hosts continue to run the ads free of charge as public service announcements. The publisher of one multi-state outdoor news tabloid, Vilcom Outdoor News, has voluntarily run COA print ads in several issues. "Anyone can download our publication-ready print ads or our broadcast-quality MP3 ads right off the internet and use them. In fact many radio stations have done just that, and we've found out later that they ran the ads as PSA's. Of course some radio stat Individual gun rights activists across the country raise funds locally to run COA radio or print ads in their own area, usually with a further infusion of funds from COA itself. "This is extremely helpful, as we can't possibly raise enough money at this p towns for ads, so they get active and do it themselves." Aside from citizens donating anywhere from $2 to $1,000,COA has received public relations support from a number of individuals and organizations since it's creation eleven months ago, including Guns and Ammo Magazine; Jon Dougherty and Geoff Metcalf, Worl funding at this time - though we hope to in the future." This lack of big-bucks funding has kept COA true to its original goal of efficiency. "We run a lean, mean organization," Puckett says. "Donated office space, a small, dedicated board of directors, subcontractors for production and administrative work, don mainly internet-based, and have no plans to get into costly snail mail fundraising from individuals. People who want to donate to this national campaign can go to our homepage and scroll to the bottom, where they can donate by credit card or other interne Puckett concludes, "We'd like to have millions of dollars available to turn the tide of public opinion, which we think is absolutely possible. The Charter of the United Nations is commonly assumed to be a treaty. It is not. Instead, the Charter of the United Nations is a constitution. As such, it is illegitimate, having created a supranational government, deriving its powers not from the consent of the governed (the people of the United States and peoples of other member nations) but from the consent of the peoples' government officials who have no authority to bind either the American people nor any other nation's people to any terms of the Charter of the United Nations. Even if the Charter of the United Nations were a properly-ratified treaty, it would still be constitutionally illegitimate and void because it transgressed the Constitution of the United States of America in three major respects: 1. It unconstitutionally delegates to the United Nations the U.S. Congress' legislative power to initiate war and the U.S. president's executive power to conduct war; 2. It unconstitutionally transfers to the United Nations General Assembly the United States House of Representatives' exclusive power to originate revenue-raising measures; and, 3. It unconstitutionally robs the 50 American states of powers reserved to them by the Tenth of Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America. H.R. 1146 - The American Sovereignty Restoration Act of 1999 is the only viable solution to the continued abuses of the United Nations. The U.S. Congress can remedy its earlier unconstitutional action of embracing the Charter of the United Nations by enacting H.R. 1146. The U.S. Congress, by passing H.R. 1146, and the U.S. president, by signing H.R. 1146, will heed the counsel of our first president, George Washington, when he advised his countrymen to "steer clear of permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world," lest the nation's security and liberties be compromised by endless and overriding international commitments. You have to believe the nation's economic prosperity was due to the w= ork of Clinton and not the Republican Congress (which actually wrote the budgets= ), and that the preceding 40 years of Democratic tax-and-spend policies had noth= ing to do with running up a $6 trillion national debt. 2. You also have to believe the government has the right and obligation = to regulate what people smoke and eat, but that insurance companies should n= ot be able to raise the premiums of people who engage in high-risk sexual pract= ices. 6. Helen Ruch, coordinator of First Monday 2000, said her event is not intended to restrict anyone's right to own guns. [check out the 1st Monday and MMM website to see what they think needs to be done - licensing/registration, one-gun-a-month, trigger locks, etc] 2. We were trying to bring the momentum of the Million Mom March [to Bethlehem]. We did not mean the anti-gun message, we meant the [focus on] victims." [bullshit - the MMM message is anti-gun - I suppose it depends on your definition of anti-gun] 3. He contends Ruch's rally is supported by the Million Mom March, which has made gun control a central issue in its platform. [bingo] 4. The YWCA's own Week Without Violence starts Oct. 15 with a toy gun exchange. But YWCA officials said Tuesday they are not advocating gun control during their events. [more bovine excrement - what do they think they're doing by asking kids to turn in their toy guns] 5. "I'm not anti-gun,'' Ruch said. "This rally is anti-violence. I'm not out to ban guns. That's not what I'm about. They think I'm this big ogre trying to take away their guns." [it's not about guns, it's about freedom] 6. The event will aim at cutting gun-related violence, Ruch said Tuesday. [by instituting government mandated licensing & registration, etc - put your faith in government solutions since they have a proven track record of success] Regards, Steve [------------------------- end of forwarded message ------------------------] -- RKBA! ***** Blessings On Thee, Oh Israel! ***** RKBA! ----------------+----------+--------------------------+--------------------- An _EFFECTIVE_ | Insured | All matter is vibration. | Let he who hath no weapon in every | by COLT; | -- Max Plank | weapon sell his hand = Freedom | DIAL | In the beginning was the | garment and buy a on every side! | 1911-A1. | word. -- The Bible | sword.--Jesus Christ ----------------+----------+--------------------------+--------------------- Constitutional Government is dead, LONG LIVE THE CONSTITUTION!!!!! - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: roc@xpresso.seaslug.org (Bill Vance) Subject: Twas the ATF before christmas and all thru the house (fwd) Date: 28 Sep 2000 11:12:00 PST On Sep 28, ataylor@NMSU.Edu wrote: [-------------------- text of forwarded message follows --------------------] Poetry, on the survivalism newsgroup? From: Raven Newsgroups: misc.survivalism Twas a night in late August, and all through the house, Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The front door was locked, and the deadbolt was thrown, All was safe and secure, in our castle of stone. The children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of Pokemon, danced in their heads. And mom in her t-shirt, and me in my flannel, Were watching intently, Discovery channel. When out on the lawn, there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window, I flew like a flash, I fumbled as always, the vinyl-clad sash. The moonlight was faint on my manicured lawn, As I peered through the gloom, and I stifled a yawn. When what to my wondering eyes should appear, But a vanload of men in full military gear. The young ninja-clad driver was lively, and quick. He stepped out on the curb, with his door-bashing stick. With the speed of a cobra, his agents, they came, As he whistled and shouted, and called them by name. Now Chalmers and Davidson, you take the back, And when I give the signal, commence the attack. To the top of the porch men, stay close to the wall, Now BASH away! BASH away! BASH away all! And then they gained entry, a matter of course. The doorframe was splintered and shattered by force. Then up to the housetop, his agents they flew, In the steady advance, of a well-practiced crew. And soon I heard men at the top of the stair, That's when my thoughts turned to the kids sleeping there. So I turned and jumped over my bed in a bound, As the door was crashed in, I heard "down on the ground". He was dressed all in black from his head to his toe. And he wore a broad mask, so his face didn't show. Then he lined up the sights of the gun he possessed, Which was clearly a chore in that black armored vest. His eyes-how they twinkled, that's all I could tell, Of the person who faced me and issued a yell. "To the ground" he repeated, with hasty precision, And the bead he had drawn, didn't leave for decision. So silently raging, to carpet I fell, >From my wife there was issued a terrified yell. While they tore up my bedroom, and left it a wreck, And I scarcely could breathe for the boot on my neck. >From afar in the house I could hear their ransacking, And as meek as a church mouse a "Daddy, what's happening". And with that still small voice, and his cry of alarm, I resolved a great price, should they bring him to harm. It was then that they read from the warrant they held, And I struggled to listen, I broke free and yelled. You idiot bastards, the problem is plain, This is Worthington Terrace, not Worthington Lane. Well he spoke not a word, but reviewed paperwork. Then he looked at his underling, called him a jerk. And then quick as he came, his accomplices rose, "My mistake", were his words "didn't mean to impose". Then he sprang to his van, to his team gave a whistle, And away they all flew, like the down from a thistle. And I heard him exclaim as the drove out of sight, "Good thing no one was hurt, and to all a good night". ~A Poem by OWK~ ======================================================================= [------------------------- end of forwarded message ------------------------] -- RKBA! - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: roc@xpresso.seaslug.org (Bill Vance) Subject: Answer to the Out of Oil in USA (fwd) Date: 28 Sep 2000 14:36:15 PST On Sep 28, Krioni * wrote: [-------------------- text of forwarded message follows --------------------] Answer to the Out of Oil in USA There are a lot of folks who can't understand how we could run out of oil here in the USA. There are many proponents of the ACT, but you will notice the proponents are licking their chops over the proposed monetary windfall rather than licking their chops over the great merits of the legislation and how the American citizenry will benefit. However you look at it, there can be nothing good that can come from this. However you twist it and turn it, there can only be one outcome to legislation that allocates $450 million per year for 15 years for the sole purpose of purchasing private lands. There will be no lands available in 15 years for the average citizen to purchase. That does not take into consideration the legislation's language as it regards methods of acquisition from existing privately owned property. Here is a link to an article that has multiple links within it to direct you to exact wording of the legislation, analysis of the legislation, proponents, detractors, etc. http://www.worldnetdaily.com/bluesky_fosters_news/20000929_xnfos_showdown_l. shtml Please contact your senator and tell him to vote NO to CARA! 1-800-648-3516, 1-800-241-7109 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: roc@xpresso.seaslug.org (Bill Vance) Subject: Now, I have a better idea why folks leave the Armed Services (fwd) Date: 30 Sep 2000 18:17:19 PST On Sep 30, VeteransForum.com wrote: [-------------------- text of forwarded message follows --------------------] Dear Reader, Catch this Stuff, This is going too far ...Is this the type of army that has to defend America if needed? We will LOSE BIG TIME!!!! David O. Director http://VeteransForum.com from ART G.---- This takes the cake! This was passed to me from an observant American.................... It's an Army tradition. When the bosses screw up, somebody has to be hung out to dry. There is always a scapegoat. This time there are two. Two officers whose careers will be ruined and an entire division which will get a black eye. All because the bosses screwed up with an insane peacekeeping hilosophy and because the nation's political leadership is incapable of comprehending : what an army is for. Here's what I'm talking about. On Monday the chief of staff of the Army released a report which talked about supposed "excesses" committed by American peacekeepers in Kosovo. The secretary of defense, former-Republican William Cohen, immediately endorsed the report and called for more training or some such nonsense. It seems that members of the 82nd Airborne Division, deployed in Kosovo, acted like soldiers, and that has scandalized the secretary of defense and every flag officer who feels obligated to kiss his fanny. Specifically, the problem was the 3rd Battalion of the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne. It is a unit commanded in Kosovo by a lieutenant colonel named Michael Ellerbe. : Colonel Ellerbe and his troopers were sent in to keep the Albanians from : killing the Serbs. His orders were to "identify and neutralize" the bad : guys. Now, in the language of Washington, "identify and neutralize" : apparently means to find the killers and, while displaying cultural and : political sensitivity, offer them a fruit basket and a pamphlet. : But Ellerbe doesn't live in Washington. He lives in Fort Bragg, where : "identify and neutralize" usually involves blowing things up and sending : various bad guys to meet Jesus. : Fortunately for the Albanians, Ellerbe's battalion seems to have : accomplished most of its neutralizing via a stern talking to. : Which is where John Serafini comes in. He was a lieutenant with Alpha Company of the 3rd Battalion. That means he's a young fire eater just a couple of years out of college and in command of a platoon of paratroopers in a combat zone. The secretary of defense wants him court-martialed. : His offense? Well, brace yourself. He, an infantry officer, allegedly "communicated a: threat." Which, if you think about it, seems almost natural for a guy packing an M16. Some people think the entire purpose of an army is to "communicate a threat." Something along the lines of: Don't screw with me or you're going to have a very bad day. Anyway, Lieutenant Serafini and his men had caught a bad guy and they were interrogating him. That's what soldiers do. And it seems that this Albanian guy didn't know that his role in this little drama was to say, "Yes, sir" over and over again. : Apparently GI Joe was asking this ragamuffin where his killer pals were and : no answers were forthcoming. So Serafini remembers that stuff he learned : about psychological warfare and decides to try some of it. So he raises an : unloaded gun to the head of Mr. Tightlip the Albanian and says something to the effect that now would be a really good time to start talking. : And, whoda thunk it, the guy starts blabbing. And the mission got accomplished. Score that a win. Unless you're some pansy at the Pentagon intent on castrating Uncle Sam's Army. If that's you, you see this as "excessive" and "conduct unbecoming an officer." Which is really screwed, because such a culture of military weakness would have rejected virtually every successful combat leader this nation has ever had. Sadly, such a culture of military weakness is assuring that America's future combat leaders will be spineless sycophants incapable of doing anything but covering their backsides. So Lieutenant Serafini and Colonel Ellerbe are left twisting in the wind, hung out to dry, two airborne soldiers * wearing the proudest patch in the Army * torpedoed by the brass for doing their jobs like the warriors their country asked them to be. And there was one other thing that bothered the milquetoasts back at HQ. They made special reference to it in their report and identified it as a sign of what was wrong with the 3rd Battalion and, indeed, all of the 82nd Airborne. It was the motto of Alpha Company: : "Shoot 'em in the face." Apparently, that motto-which may date back to D-Day-doesn't fit in today's politically correct Army. The notion of shooting the enemies of America in the face is too gruesome and insensitive for the lip-biter inchief. Which is pretty weird, if you think about it, because, if we can be honest, isn't killing people kind of what we train soldiers to do? I mean, the Army is not a social welfare agency, it's not really just some giant : college fund. It's a unique bunch of people with a very unique job * using : overwhelming deadly force to assert and protect the interests of the : United States of America. These are people who must stand ready day in and day out to administer and face death on the orders of fat, impotent men in Washington, D.C. It takes a certain kind of mindset to do that. And a motto like "Shoot 'em in the face" helps establish and bolster at mindset. : Besides, it's not all cheerleading. It's good soldiering. When you're : engaging an enemy wearing body armor and a Kevlar helmet, isn't a face : shot a tactical necessity? And shouldn't the chief of staff of the Army know that? And shouldn't America and its civilian leadership realize that being a : soldier is a dirty business? Don't the morons in Washington know that : soldiers aren't cops? Don't they know that whacking these two officers : like this will kill the morale of countless other troopers? : Don't they know that in recent years the pride has gone out of the : military, stolen from it by spineless bureaucrats and the open contempt of a : civilian leadership which actively avoided military service itself? : I'm sorry this happened to Lieutenant Serafini and Colonel Ellerbe, and : I hope somehow they can hear these words. Not just from me, but from all of America. And not just to them, but to all of their comrades. : "Well done. We're proud of you, and grateful." : - by Bob Lonsberry : : : A W Garland Sr : USN Retired [------------------------- end of forwarded message ------------------------] -- RKBA! -
