I'd say the actual policy is only=20 untelegenic nuts get the cages, but little Dennis Kucinich is speaking=20 at the Convention, too. Just a few weeks ago, Gore gave a speech accusing the Bush=20 administration of deploying "digital Brown Shirts" to intimidate=20 journalists and pressure the media into writing good things about Bush =96= =20 in case you were wondering where all those glowing articles about Bush=20 were coming from. The last former government official to slake his thirst so deeply with=20 the Kool-Aid and become a far-left peacenik was Ramsey Clarke and it=20 took him a few years to really blossom. Clinton must have done some=20 number on Gore. Then again, with his yen for earth tones in a man's=20 wardrobe, maybe Gore's references to "Brown Shirts" was intended as a=20 compliment. Only one major newspaper =96 the Boston Herald =96 reported Gore's "Brown= =20 Shirt" comment, though a Bush campaign spokesman's statement quoting the=20 "Brown Shirt" line made it into the very last sentence of a Los Angeles=20 Times article. The New York Times responded with an article criticizing=20 "both" Republicans and Democrats for using Nazi imagery. Democrats call=20 Republicans Nazis, the Republicans quote the Democrats calling=20 Republicans Nazis and "both" are using Nazi imagery. (It's a cycle of=20 violence!) The nuts in the cages are virtual Bertrand Russells compared to the=20 official speakers at the Democratic Convention. On the basis of their=20 placards, I gather the caged-nut position is that they love the troops=20 so much, they don't want them to get hurt defending America from=20 terrorist attack. "Support the troops," the signs say, "bring them home." That's my new position on all government workers, except the 5 percent=20 who aren't useless, which is to say cops, prosecutors, firemen and U.S.=20 servicemen.
