The lights dimmed. The projector whirred and a slide clicked into position. Larger than life, the man's yellow, mangled, bloody shin shone out from the screen. The children gasped. Some of them covered their mouths with their shirts. None of them looked away. "That's a real-life gunshot wound," the doctor said. "Is this the image you see in the movies? Do you think this was painful? This did not have to happen in the first place. There were choices he could have made." Thus began the Bellevue School District's new Cops and Docs program, an hourlong session pairing a physician with a police officer for a blunt, no-holds-barred attempt at dispelling myths of gun violence. Every eighth-grader in the district is expected to see the program this year, in hopes of shocking them away from firearms. Organizers also hope the program will convince students that it's all right to tell a teacher or other adult about classmates who bring guns to school. "With kids, the worst fear is retaliation or to be labeled a `narc,' " said Bellevue police Officer Lisa Piculell, the school's resource officer who co-hosts the program. "My ultimate motive is to help those kids break down those barriers. It's OK to report guns in school. It's their obligation. It's their responsibility. You don't want to see a person you like or a teacher injured or killed." Littleton sparks demand The program was conceived and tested last year as an abridged version of the Seattle School District's Options, Choices, Consequences program, a much lengthier series of hard-hitting anti-violence presentations. After the massacre at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colo., earlier this year, the demand for the program skyrocketed. Cops and Docs turns on a series of increasingly gory scenarios that Marshall presents bluntly and clinically, donning a white doctor's smock and stethoscope for effect. Students have to get parental permission to attend and are free to leave if they are too repulsed. But none so far has opted out. "They know guns do bad thing, but if they don't experience it, they don't know how bad," said Marshall, a family practitioner at Group Health's Factoria clinic. "`Actually seeing a real life case, not one that's made up, really makes a big difference." The leg scene - a man accidentally shoots himself with a pistol - is followed by real autopsy photos of a Redmond boy, Isaac Lee, who was fatally shot in the head two years ago by a buddy who was playing with a pistol. "How do you think this boy felt, knowing he had killed his best friend?" Marshall asked the squirming, wincing students. And there's still more: Surgery scenes from a teen shot many times during a gang fight in Portland. A boy who shot himself in the chin. Dramatic photos from Columbine. After Marshall walked students through each scenario, Piculell followed up with a matter-of-fact recitation of the legal consequences people involved in the shootings faced. "Imagine being in this situation," she told the group. "You've stolen a gun, and you've killed someone because you were messing around with a gun." She clicked a grainy black-and-white photo of a prison on the screen. "This could be where you spend the rest of your life." Since testing the program, Piculell said, they have had at least one marked success: Last spring a 12-year-old boy who saw Cops and Docs informed on a student who had brought a pistol in a tote bag to the program. But not all the kids seemed eager to inform on gun-toting classmates. "I'd actually be scared to tell on somebody because he has a gun," one of the few girls in the class said. "I would be afraid of getting shot." And across the room, 13-year-old Sean Boyatt said a lot of people don't trust police enough to tell. "That's the biggest reason people don't call those tip lines, because they're afraid of being charged as an accomplice," he said. "What if you call that tip line, and they could come to your house and say you were an accomplice because you knew about the gun?" Piculell assured the class police respect and value anonymous tips. "You have a lot of resources to report," she said. "You can call 911. You can leave a note for someone. You can tell your parents. You just need to tell someone." Ian Ith's phone message number is 206-464-2109. "About Y2K, the Special Agent says, 'Y2K presents a problem because... if you lose electricity, now you're talking about making movements under the cover of darkness. ...And they realize... they have an acceptable loss rate. Another quote from the referenced article is: "Plans for mass relocations of the population, "acceptable casualties" and removal of so-called "dissidents" after a declaration of Martial Law are only a surprise to the American public, not the intelligence community." Folks, this information about the FORCED roundup of American Citizens will be aired on PBS. This is not some camoflaged, middle aged militia member standing on a soap box and telling you this. This is credible information coming from a FBI Special Agent on PBS!!!!! Although, the Militia warnings that have been issued in the past NOW certainly take on new and improved credibility and value. Like so many revelations about government actions (Waco included), what we have scoffed at from the militias is being shown to be true. Will you "board the train meekly" as the Jews did in the late '30 and early 40's? Will you try to keep your family close to you so as not to be separated, unless those with the guns decide the children need to go to a separate facility, and the old and feeble to another?? Will you strain to glimpse the last fleeting view of your loved ones as they are hustled off?? Folks, the responsibility of this whole scenario can be laid at OUR FEET. We have failed in our responsibility to properly manage our government and our elected officials. We have been all to willing to trade our Liberty for some bureaucrat's promise for a little more security. The chickens have come home to roost. The mere fact that such a plan exists and government agents have been "training for years" to impliment such plans is an abomination to the very principles that founded this Nation, and should be a strong wake-up call to every American. What are your thoughts???????????????????????????? Find the time to watch this show (warning). Tell all your friends about this. Then let your elected officials know of your feelings about this. BUT, ABOVE ALL - - BE PREPARED IF THEY COME !!!!!! One other thing, for the sake of America, for the sake of your family, and for the sake of our Posterity, please get involved and vote out each and every Democrat and Republican in government. These politicians have place the welfare of their parties and the welfare of their masters - the globalist, multinational corporations and banks - above the welfare of this country and it's People for way too long!!! It's time to get rid of them. It is time to reform this government. Join together in a political party and let us take back our country. This is a question more than anything else. At present many in California are eagerly getting signatures on a campaign to recall Gray Davis as governor. The Recall was put together over Davis' refusal to continue the appeal process over 187. But when looks about it is gun owners who seem to be working hardest to get signatures. But I wonder what the Republican leaders are going to do if the campaign gets the required signatures. All the people who want to get rid of Davis and give the Republicans a chance to win the Governor's office want him out for his favorable treatment of aliens against the sprit of 187 which passed with a large majority and gun owners and in both cases while the rank and file Republicans are strongly in favor of 187 and Guns the Republican leadership have consistently refused to take a stand on either issue to support the people who have voted for them for fear of irritating those who will never vote for them. Any ideas of who is waiting to oppose Gray Davis Jack - - ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Sep 99 12:17:35 PST From: roc@xpresso.seaslug.org (Bill Vance) Subject: Fwd from Australia (fwd) On Sep 25, RichSlick@aol.com wrote: [-------------------- text of forwarded message follows --------------------] >From Chris, in Australia.
