No More Mr. Nice Guy
Republicans get tough!
by Tom Adkins
As a cynical friend of mine once observed, "Politics is a bar fight. When the
chairs start flying, Democrats smash a beer bottle, jump on the table and
snarl. Republicans respond 'Rook to Queen four, please'"
It's hard to believe, but after getting sand kicked in our faces by Democrat
bullies for 50 years, Republicans finally put up their dukes. They fought a
mean, nasty hard-nosed battle against Democrat bullies. And won. Well,
whaddaya know! No more Mr. Nice Guy!
After two recounts didn't produce a Gore victory, Democrats maneuvered to
hijack the election via the razor-thin edge in Florida. But a funny thing
happened. Republicans didn't back down. Instead, they got tough. Real tough.
The Bush team put together a smart legal strategy and stuck with it, ignoring
Democrat recount traps. Meanwhile, James Baker magnificently deflected the
Gore team's smoke-and-mirror attacks and fired back with verbal howitzers.
Bush communications director Karen Hughes muzzled her candidate as Gore spun
his wheels deeper into the mud. Republican pundits across the country
attacked over air, land and cable. Even Internet chat rooms were filled with
snappy answers to liberal soundbytes.
The typically docile everyday Republicans across the country became inspired,
marched down to the local protest and gleefully screamed at outnumbered Gore
protesters. The RNC even borrowed a time-tested page from the Democrat play
book, flying staffers into Florida to boisterously protest Dade County's
attempt to secretly "count" ballots. It was pure joy watching the indignant
Bill Press (CNN) get flustered when counterpart Tucker Carlson exclaimed
"This is great! I'm so proud of them!"
Even the US Supremes got into the act. In an arena where liberals have
weaseled all too many concessions from conservative appointees, the latest
Democrat shenanigans stirred up angry moderate blood. The overrated David
Boise was amazingly tongue-tied as he discovered the shtick that worked
wonders with the home team Florida Supreme outlaws ignited the usually
reserved Sandra Day O'Connor, who turned him into her personal punching bag.
In the end, the Florida Supremes got swatted down three times for getting
frisky and rewriting election laws. Throughout the hearings, every Democrat
thrust was thwarted by a brilliant Republican parry. And in a display of pure
trash-talking insult, the Republican Florida House voted in a slate of GOP
electors before the Supremes rendered their final judgment.
In the face of Democrat pressure, Republicans never blinked. Everyone stayed
on message, spinning risky political stances into winning arguments in the
courtroom, over the airwaves, on the street, and into victory.
I weep with pride.
Liberal defector David Horowitz stated in his book, The Art Of Political War,
"As the party of bankrupt principles, discredited policies, and two faced
political arguments, the Democrats have dramatically demonstrated how
effective the art of political war can be in the hands of a party that
understands its principles." You got that right, Dave. There are still
Democrats looking to finagle the election for Gore. The annoying Bob Wexler
threatened to upset the electoral confirmation process. Slimy Bob Beckel is
trying to blackmail Bush electors. But in the aftermath of the Florida
fiasco, GW looks shrewd. His staff of old bulls from GOP history, Dick
Cheney, James Baker and Colin Powell know how to fight and win these wars.
They played butt-kicking offense, and the Democrat bullies were reeling and
squealing with every hard punch. And look who won?
Upper-crust Republicans should pay attention. People aren't motivated by
smoking jacket wearing potbellies lounging at the country club, sniffing
brandy and muttering under their breath. They want blood. Guts. Principle.
Action. Above all, they want victory. That means bare-knuckles political
brawling. The new-breed Republicans instinctively know this. Chuck Muth, just
elected National Chairman of the Republican Liberty Caucus states flatly,
"The Kumbaya wing of the GOP won't find a sympathetic ear as long as I'm
chairman. We're in a dead serious war of ideas. I'm in this to win, not split
the difference. The RLC will march toward the sound of cannons, not retreat
from them. Democrats and others who would shred the constitution need to be
wiped off the electoral map." Yow! Them's fightin' words, folks! Maybe that
spirit finally percolated up to the rest of Republican leadership. Cause it
sure looks like the skinny Republican kid pumped iron and took boxing
lessons. And got an attitude to boot. You want summa dis? No more Mr. Nice
guy.
It's about time.

Seriously Ill Get Chance To Hunt
By JEFFREY BAIR, Associated Press Writer
PITTSBURGH (AP) - The Make-A-Wish Foundation has granted thousands of
requests from children with life-threatening illnesses, sending
youngsters to Walt Disney World or introducing them to their favorite pop
stars.
But there are some wishes the foundation won't grant. For the past year,
Make-A-Wish has refused to arrange hunting trips.
That's where Hunt of a Lifetime has come in.
The organization, formed to grant hunting requests no longer met by
Make-A-Wish, has arranged several trips, including a safari with rock 'n'
roll wild man and ardent hunter Ted Nugent.
``Make-A-Wish just makes me want to puke my guts out,'' Nugent said.
``What could be more pure than the last wishes of a young child? And to
deny that because of political correctness? That's just outrageous.''
The Motor City Madman will travel to South Africa in July with Zachary
Martin, a 16-year-old from Yreka, Calif., with bone cancer.
``Jeez, going hunting in Africa, and with Ted Nugent. It's been a dream
of mine to hunt with him ever since I started watching his shows,''
Zachary said.
Nugent, the singer of ``Cat Scratch Fever,'' said he and the teen-ager
will go bowhunting for zebra, warthogs and impalas.
``Let me tell you, when you go hunting with Ted Nugent, there is no Janet
Reno (news - web sites) around to stop you. There is nothing more
beautiful than that,'' Nugent said this week.
Make-A-Wish has granted 83,000 wishes but put a stop to hunting outings,
said Jim Maggio, a spokesman for the charity.
``It's a safety concern, basically with exposing the kids and other
participants to the potential for danger from a weapon being handled by
someone who is in a weakened state from a life-threatening disease,''
Maggio said.
Animal rights groups had criticized hunting trips arranged by
Phoenix-based Make-A-Wish.
``We see something ironic here,'' said Heidi Prescott, director of the
Fund for Animals. ``They're teaching a child to kill and cause another
living being to suffer at a time when that child, we would figure, would
be empathetic about the quality of life.''
Hunt of a Lifetime was founded by Tina Pattison, a bus driver from
suburban Erie, Pa., whose stepson, Matt, died last year during
chemotherapy for lymph node cancer.
Before Matt's death, Pattison tried to raise money to send him hunting -
Make-A-Wish still allowed such trips but wouldn't help because he was too
old at 19. The people of the little town of Nordegg in Canada heard his
story and raised money for Matt to fly to a hunting camp by helicopter.
He shot a moose whose antlers were 41/2 feet across.
Cash donations made at Matt's funeral were used to start Hunt of a
Lifetime, which mostly runs on contributions.
``Some people said the money ought to go to Make-A-Wish, but I don't
think that's what Matt would have wanted because it forbids the very
thing he was all about - hunting,'' Pattison said. ``I don't want anyone
whose child is sick to have to go through the headaches I did.''
So far, five youths have hunted for free through arrangements made by
Hunt of a Lifetime. Comedian Jeff Foxworthy will take a 20-year-old
cancer patient from Delaware deer hunting early next year.
Pattison said the Nebraska and North Carolina chapters of Make-A-Wish
agreed to refer young people to her. Nugent, Foxworthy and other hunting
guides donate their services.
Christine Manning of Penn Run, Pa., said she watched Hunt of a Lifetime
work wonders for her 14-year-old son, Andrew, who had seven operations in
seven months this year and grew depressed with a disease that makes blood
vessels grow rapidly in his right thigh. Last month, Andrew shot a
700-pound bull elk.
``He had been immobile on the couch, and you should have seen him shoot
down out of that tree,'' she said. ``He ran to the animal on pure
adrenaline, I guess.''

TITANIC'S LAST MYSTERY REVEALED !
For years, the admiralty and maritime scholars have reviewed every
statistic regarding the late great ship.
The simple facts were that the ship sailed with 2,214 men, women and
children aboard. Of that number, 1,503 perished while only 711 survived.
One of the last great mysteries was the previously unexplained fact that,
of the 711 survivors, 704 were registered Republicans.
It has been only a theory for years, but recent events in Florida confirm
earlier suspicions: all Republicans aboard the Titanic were able to follow
the arrows to the life rafts.

on the entry documents "the name, street address, and appropriate
identification number of that person" and Customs says that appropriate
identification number is, you guessed it, the Social Security or Federal Tax
ID number, to cross check for importing or shipping violations.
The Royal Canadian Mint Fall 2000 product catalog includes notice informing
US customers that they must supply their "tax identification number" with
any order and it has added a box for the number on its new order form.
Their notice also includes a phone number for the US Customs office in
Champlain, as well as the US Customs website address --
www.customs.ustreas.gov -- for customers seeking information on the
requirement. Royal Canadian Mint spokesman Pierre Morin assured _Coin World_
magazine, "This is strictly information we have to deliver to the US Customs
people" and that the "tax number" will not become part of a mailing address
label or other paperwork visible to those outside the nations' sundry
Customs agencies.
Of course, under separate US privacy protection law, no US agency may demand
a Social Security number except as it relates to tax and withholding
requirements -- though many exceptions are grandfathered in, and,
presumably, this doesn't trigger the restriction because the agency doing
the asking is a foreign entity.
So far, the requirement doesn't seem to have filtered down to private
Canadian firms selling coins to US customers via eBay, ads in publications
like Coin World, and so forth. Additionally, 24-carat gold and pure silver
Maple Leafs -- RCM's most popular bullion products -- are still available
from US based wholesalers and retailers.

In late October, one arm of the government gave permission to another arm of
the government to examine the accounts of thousands of US taxpayers who hold
credit cards, charge cards, and/or debit cards issued by banks in the
Bahamas, the Cayman Islands, Antigua, and Barbuda for the years 1998 and
1999.
The AP reports that a federal judge "agreed with the IRS that cardholders
may have violated US tax laws and that their identities are not readily
available from other sources." According to the AP, this is one of the
largest investigations to target offshore accounts in the history of the
IRS.
Though the three targeted countries have strict banking-privacy laws (the
Caymans caved in to pressure from the Western tax cartel to overturn their
private-banking laws in favor of regulations designed to offer IRS and DEA a
"helpful transparency." The credit card companies are headquartered in
Miami, over which IRS has jurisdiction.
In the past, similar situations have occurred wherein IRS has investigated
offshore activity by claiming jurisdiction over banks with branches in the
US. [NOTE: typically banks accounts must be opened before cards issue so
the point of this exercise is more than a lunch check; however, there are
ways of opening accounts with banks, trusts and, now, credit card companies
that don't have any presence in the US.]
"Conspiracy" is anything an overzealous and enterprising prosecutor says it
is and "criminal behavior" is the bureaucrats, and other would-be tyrants,
way of making a crime out of even the desire of an honest person to keep
his/her affairs private:
"There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is
the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough
criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it
becomes
impossible for men to live without breaking laws." -- Ayn Rand, Atlas
Shrugged, Ch. III, "White Blackmail" And just look at the definition of
money laundering, "A process that obscures the source or application of
money."
FPR editor Vin Suprynowicz says, "In earlier police states, forcing men to
drop their trousers in public was justified as "the best way to find the
circumcised Jews." The next time someone tries to justify imposing fines of
30% of their receipts on legitimate forms simply for refusing to snitch on
their customers -- 98% of whom are completely law-abiding -- ask them if
they'd also like to examine your sex organs. After all, who could object
... unless he had something to hide?"
BUT WAIT! There's more: New regulations are emerging from IRS that will
have what looks to be a dire effect on offshore banks and brokers.
As of the first of the year, IRS is requiring all overseas financial
institutions that provide investment services in the US capital markets to
become "Qualified Intermediaries." In order to so qualify, foreign banks
and brokers must fill out and file detailed IRS forms that identify any
client, whether a non-US or US resident, who invests in US securities. If a
foreign bank or broker refuses to participate in the Qualified Intermediary
program, it will have to pay a whopping 30% tax on the proceeds of the sale
of any US security.
Again, from FRP: "So here we have a sort of Sophie's Choice. Anyone who
holds an investment account with an offshore bank or broker, no matter if
he's a US citizen or not, has four options. One, he has to put himself in
the IRS database (and, presumably, in the massive super-computer of FinCen,
the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network of the US Department of Treasury);
furthermore, if he already reports all foreign accounts on his annual tax
forms, he has to suffer a further invasion of his privacy, and if he doesn't
he has to incriminate himself. Or two, to avoid the reporting requirements,
he has to face a 30% bite out of the sale of any investments in the US
markets. Three, he has to sell his US investments before the regulations
take effect on January 1, 2001. Or four, he has to look for a bank or
broker, somewhere, anywhere, around this shrinking world that not only
refuses to buy into the IRS blackmail, but also has the backing of its
sovereign government.
"The Treasury Department and IRS can get away with crap like this as long as
the stock market is going up, or not dropping too fast. But what if massive
foreign sales of US securities start flooding into the markets in response
to this impost? Might it precipitate a nosedive?"

Dec. 18 Neal Knox Report -- Former Sen. John Danforth's name
is being floated as Attorney General in the Bush Administration.
SINK IT!
Danforth was in charge of the Waco cover-up. He ignored evidence
that FBI and ATF had lied and distorted the truth, but did nothing
to any of them. The only one prosecuted was and is Bill Johnston,
who went overboard to prosecute the Branch Davidians, but committed
the unpardonable sin of criticizing his own agency -- pointing out
to Janet Reno that she had not been properly informed and that
at least some claims of the Waco nuts were based on fact.
Remember, too, that Danforth, while Missouri Senator claimed
to be a solid defender of the right to keep and bear arms -- until
he announced his retirement, when he simultaneously blasted gun
owners and gun ownership.
For George W. Bush to appoint Danforth as Attorney General
guarantees that Waco and Ruby Ridge will never be properly
investigated -- and odds are that it won't be no matter who is
appointed AG.
Even worse, his appointment would send a message to
Federal law enforcement that they can do whatever they wish to the
American citizens, without fear of retribution.
I suggest you try getting the message to him and to Dick

I can't swear that these addresses work (which I've picked up off
the buzz off the net) but he needs to hear from us -- which is why
I'm also using some of my own channels to get him the message.

Another name that's been circulating for various Bush posts in
Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge, whose appointment to anything --
particularly anything to do with law enforcement -- will bring
Pennsylvania gunowners off the wall.
Last week two groups sued Gov. Ridge and the State Police
Commissioner for keeping records of gun purchases in direct
violation of Pennsylvania law.
In their long-simmering suit Allegheny County Sportsmen's
League and the Lehigh Valley Firearms Coalition charge that the
state is maintaining a database of law abiding gun owners, despite
a 1997 law that specifically prohibits such record-keeping for more
than 72 hours.
In an October 6 letter to a state representative whose help
ACSL enlisted, the police commissioner acknowledged that state
police have retained copies of firearms applications and sales
records since 1933, although they had no authority -- prior to 1995
- -- to keep them for more than six years.

State Presidential electors are voting in their state capitols
today, and I pray that none violate their oaths by failing to
support the candidates who won their states.
Bush only won one more Elector than the required 271, and
fierce Democrat consultant and campaign advisor Bob Beckel
has been doing his best for weeks to break off at least three Electors.
There probably won't be any "Faithless Electors," but I'll
sleep easier when those votes are officially cast.
