I asked him the question last September (having followed Zorn for a while, it was a surprise to discover his fairly late interest about the jewish culture). "It started in 1990. Many of my friend musicians (Jewish) were coming back from touring in Germany with sad stories about a regain of antisemistism. At that time I (Zorn) realized that I was not a *white* person." As you can see, it did not start with a mystical experience or a deep curiosity about his roots, but more as a political/social reaction (which seems more in line with Zorn's character). He was definitely talking about the early '90s. I didn't ask him about his religious beliefs. Could what started on the political/social level became more on the religious one? I don't know. Has anybody picked up the colored vinyl ep "Live at the Pecci Museum?" I could have the exact title mistaken, but it is something to that effect, and it is a live recording from 1995, and is issued as a limited edition. I'm wondering if it is a recording of him performing solo, with a band (which band?), or what not. It is quite affordable ($9 or so), but I would like to know what it contains before ordering one. When is the new batch of Tzadik releases scheduled to arrive? I am anxious to hear the vocal trio with Tatsuya Yoshida, the solo voice recording by Mike Patton, and whatever Zorn resissues are on the way. Isn't there an Eyvind Kang CD on the horizon as well? I just heard his work on the new Bill Frisell Quartet CD on Nonesuch, and enjoyed it immensely. Kang played as part of the Cobra performance that came through Chicago a couple of years ago, and I have been waiting for some recordings of his work ever since. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Apr 1996 12:27:39 -0400 From: BarryGilb@aol.com To: zorn-list@xmission.com Subject: Re: zorn/judaism Message-ID: <960421122738_474771825@emout17.mail.aol.com> Egg1000 wrote: >Has anybody picked up the colored vinyl ep "Live at the Pecci Museum?"
