The K Foundation ---------------- The K Foundation was Cauty and Drummond's imaginary Art foundation in which the two top-hatted gentlemen that can be seen in the background of Munch's picture 'The Scream' are the Trustees. The K Foundation motto was Divide and Create. The aims of the K Foundation were undefined but were once stated to be The Advancement of Creation. Cauty and Drummond first began imagining the K Foundation on February 18th 1993. On August 23rd 1994, Cauty and Drummond set fire to UKp1,000,000 of their own money and burnt the lot. This happened in a derelict boat house on the Island of Jura, Scotland. The one million had been ammassed from Cauty and Drummond's career in pop music. The burning was filmed. "WATCH THE K FOUNDATION BURN A MILLION QUID" is a 55 minute film of unedited footage. It starts with the match being struck and ends with the final ember dying. In between, nothing happens but Cauty and Drummond feeding the flames with bundles of UKp50 notes. The film is silent. On the 23rd August 1995, Cauty and Drummond screened "WATCH THE K FOUNDATION BURN A MILLION QUID" in the village hall on Jura. The screeing was followed by a debate with the Islanders In early September 1995, a full-page advert was placed in a national broadsheet asking 'Why did the K Foundation burn a million quid?' The film is now being shown at various locations including schools, prisons, art galleries, financial institutions, mental hospitals, film festivals, spiritual centres, bonfire night celebrations, theaters and night shelters for the homeless. At each screening, Cauty and Drummond are observing and documenting the audience responses. K CONCLUDED? ----------- On the 5th November 1995, Cauty and Drummond signed a contract agreeing to end The K Foundation for a period of 23 years. This postponement 'provides opportunity of sufficient length for an accurate and appropriately executed response to their burning of a million quid'. Cauty and Drummond have rescued themselves from the burden of an impossible explanation. Their fate now lies irrevocably sealed in the imploded remains of a Nissan Bluebird nestling amongst the rocks 120 feet below Cape Wrath. MAJOR RE-THINK IS NOW UNDERWAY ------------------------------ "As the century draws to a close, The K Foundation have cremated the remenants of its diseased corpse and symbolically thrown the ashes to the mercy of the northern winds. As a potlatch it implicitly demands a higher return from those to whom it speaks. Sacrifice is an unquantified, irrational, magical exchange." THE K FOUNDATION, PO Box 91, HP22 4RS, The U.K.
