Chances are, the server is sending out the information, but then your client becomes lagged because of the routing problems, and the server never sees your ping reply, and terminates the connection. I really do not have a fix for this, there are not many servers that are close to Japan, and even fewer that are less busy than we are. We will look into perhaps allowing the pings to be less frequent to our friends overseas, allowing for more leeway in lag from routing. :> _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ | -FireMyst | DC.D f+ s(RL VR++) h++ CR a m++ d++ | | | WL++* Fr+++ L550c BF e! i++ U- | > _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ < | FireMyst's Lair: http://www.xmission.com/~dragon | - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - _ - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: FireMyst Subject: Re: (dragon-oper) Unfair DALnet Practices and Request for Explanation Date: 11 Aug 1997 01:14:18 -0600 (MDT) On Sun, 10 Aug 1997 cfox@gte.net wrote: > Dear DALnet: > > Yesterday, 9 August 1997, at about 11 PM, I was kicked off the channel > chatzone by an op named 'alaskaguy.' Unfortunately, the DALnet administration does not deal with channel matters. There are over 3,000 channels on DALnet at any one time, and it would be imposible for us to handle them all. The ops of the channel, who are recognied by Chanserv pwn the channel. They may remove someone for causing problems, or because they're nick starts with the letter L. They do not need a reason, nor is there anything anyone else, except another op can do about it. Your best chance would be to talk with the founder of the channel, or another op, and explain as you have done here. Properly registered channels are 'owned' by the channel founder and managed by his or her chosen channel operators. Unless they break DALnet's policies (distribution of kiddie porn, illegal files, flooding or otherwise visiously harassing users, etc) DALnet server operators do not interfere in channel matters. There is no due process in channel matters unless it's upheld by the channel's founder. However, the founder if welcome to take his channel and fill it with jerks if he wants to. If you wish to have the ban removed, you need to talk to another channel op, or the founder about it. Personally, I'd suggest finding a channel full of more pleasant individuals and going there. Please let me emphasize that you're hearing this from the highest authority on this server: DALnet's policy is that channels manage themselves as long as they are operating within DALnet's rules. If you still find this answer unacceptible, you are welcome to write to jag@dal.net, the judicial committee that oversees the behavior of DALnet personnel, and complain that we are unwilling to help you. The only way for him to know the password is through guessing. Under most circumstances, this would be extremely difficult. It is possible that you gave out the password by accident? If he changed the password, he would first be required to identify himself to chanserv (with the password) as the owner of that channel. Then he could make any changes he likes. If the channel expired, it could have been re-registered by him. If the channel was 'stolen', I'd ask your friend what the heck he thinks he or she is doing. There are many people available to recover your channel, or check into chanserv logs to see if the channel was dropped, the founder was changed, etc. They are called csops. You can find these people on DALnet by either joining #csop, #dragonrealm, or typing /motd services.* and contacting one of those individuals if the other two options fail. There is a document that can be obtained about mIRC called the FAQ or Frequently Asked Questions. That file will help you learn the necessary tools to make a bot. These come as e-mails and are named "JOIN THE CREW" and "PENPAL GREETINGS" These viruses delete your hard drive if opened and also automatically forward themselves to anyone whos email address is in your mailbox.. Seeing that this warning came from IBM i thought it would be a good idea if you sent a global notice on mirc if ye have'nt done so already. I'm sorry, but I can't think of any reason you would be having trouble connecting other than possible traffic on the servers in general or the condition of the network during some routing to improve lag time for the users. > > Jsut to let you in on somethng I'm planning on the 20th of sept could be >one of the biggest things to hit the internet in a long time. Your cause sounds like quite a worthwhile endeavor on your part. If you mean you'll have 5-9 people on your channel coordinating efforts, there should not be a problem. At some point is it possible to send a message to all irc people >who log in as to the event adn what is needed and see if any would like to >partisipate? I'm sorry but this would not be possible to do as this would be considered mass messaging and is not permitted by DALnet network. Perhaps in casual conversation with friends you could spread the word or talk to some of your local internet service providers to see if they might be interested or have any users that might be able to help you out with spreading the word or joining in your cause.
