Last night I was going through a pile of old mail and magazines, and I came across the latest issue of Lexicon. (For those of you who don't know, Lexicon covers pop/synthpop from the 80s, as well as the current synth/techno scene.) The magazine published its list of the 100 best albums of the 80s, as voted by Lexicon readers. I only had a chance to skim the list, but was "Rhythm Of Youth" anywhere on that list? I'm going to go back and look it over again this evening, but I don't remember seeing it. I was surprised by some of the entries, and their positions. "Cupid & Psyche '85" by Scritti Politti was number 40 or something like that. The top spot was taken by ABC's "Lexicon Of Love" (!). That surprised me. Tears For Fears' "Songs From The Big Chair" and "The Hurting" were both in the top 10. Talking Heads were up there, as were Propoganda (another surprise). I was disappointed that MWH didn't have a higher spot in the standings. This was a list voted on by Lexicon readers and by people on the web. I think I posted a message on this gorup, but may not have (not all my messages seem to make it through). I was suprised too, but hey, things happen. By the way, there is a Scandanavian band called Chinese Detectives who have a new album out called "Are Kisses Out of Fashion." The whole album is a bumch of covers of '80s songs, it is very good. One of the covers is "Where Do The Boys Go?" It's not bad, they have a female vocalist, so it sounds different enough from the original, although they use mostly synths as well. Their website is www.planetrecords.no. I guess that means they are from Norway, huh?
