Hi Joe, and all the other bookshelfers. This is no fun to say good-bye, after years of daily reading, and even sharing some of your experiences with family and friends. Kind of the book collector's "soap opera". So many characters, so many books, so little time! Joe introduced me to the shelf years ago, and I thank him for the invitation. I had been selling used/out-of-print LDS books at my store, and didn't even know the Bookshelf existed! I first met Joe when he was 15 and I was in my late 20's serving on the Napa CA Stake High Council. I was responsible for the Teachers (14-15 year old boys) in the stake, and Joe was President of the "prestigious" Sonoma Ward's quorum. His quorum helped me produce a quorum presidency leadership filmstrip to be shown at a stake Priesthood leadership meeting. I visited his home in Glen Ellen, in the famous "Valley of the Moon" near Jack London's "Wolf House". It was a fun day a few years ago (about 20 years after I had last seen him) when he called me after I bought a book he wanted from a dealer catalog, "moments" before he called for it (we've all been there)! It's amazing how are paths cross in life. I feel like I know so many of you, and have actually met about 20. Many of you took me up on a FREE GIFT to all bookshelfers a few years ago... Norma Ricketts, "The California Star, 1847-1848, San Francisco's First Newspaper". These copies have gone for over $30 on both Deseret Book Auction and eBay, but they are available at our web page and on Bibliofind for $10 plus shipping. As a FAREWELL GIFT to LDS Bookshelfer's I am again offering this 27 page book to all who have not previously received it, for just the cost of shipping and handling...$3! I also have several copies of the California Mormon Sesquicentennial 12 page brochure available and will make a gift of those for $3 shipping and handling only (these have sold for over $10 on auction). If you want both, I can send them both for $5. These gifts are limited to my stock on hand and will be given in the order of response. Please email me PRIVATELY if interested, with your name and shipping address and I will email you payment instructions (cash, check, money order, paypal, visa, mc). Also check out our website from time-to-time for information on another list for LDS book COLLECTORS and our soon to be opened mormonabilia.com! Friends, A terrible void will occur in my Internet life within the next two hours or so. While I wasn't a "charter member," I believe I've been on the list for about five years, minus a couple short excommunications. (Darn it...just when I really started to behave, the Janitors closed up shop!) Perhaps in some minds, I am part of the cause for the 'Shelf's extinction. If so, I am truly sorry. I have learned so much from all of you. This list has been the lifeline whereby I have been able to keep abreast of LDS book developments from outside the Wasatch Front. There is not one person who has posted on LDS-Bookshelf (and I include in this statement those few with whom I have had somewhat violent disagreements), from whom I have not gained and grown. Words cannot express the sense of loss. Please, friends, keep in touch. I will miss this list terribly, and can only hope that Stan's "Mormon Library" will also grow to hold such a cherished spot in my life. ALL ELSE: You are very dear people, and I hope to hear your wonderful messages on other LDS forums. - --Steve - ------=_NextPart_000_0015_01C09450.0AA20A20 Content-Type: application/ms-tnef; name="winmail.dat" Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="winmail.dat" eJ8+IhoBAQaQCAAEAAAAAAABAAEAAQeQBgAIAAAA5AQAAAAAAADoAAEIgAcAGAAAAElQTS5NaWNy b3NvZnQgTWFpbC5Ob3RlADEIAQ2ABAACAAAAAgACAAEGgAMADgAAANEHAgALABEAHAAAAAAAEgEB A5AGANwGAAAnAAAACwACAAEAAAALACMAAAAAAAMAJgAAAAAACwApAAAAAAADADYAAAAAAB4AcAAB AAAACQAAAEZhcmV3ZWxsAAAAAAIBcQABAAAAFgAAAAHAlJMXil1OBXQAgxHVg2/4ccoAAAAAAAIB HQwBAAAAFQAAAFNNVFA6U0VDQ0xFU0BHVEUuTkVUAAAAAAsAAQ4AAAAAQAAGDgBQFwmTlMABAgEK DgEAAAAYAAAAAAAAAKkPWpaevNMRgsFGHxMAAADCgAAACwAfDgEAAAADAAYQx8QypgMABxDJAQAA HgAIEAEAAABlAAAAQ0FOV0VIQVZFVEhFMVNUKEhPUEVGVUxMWVRPQkVDT01FQU5OVUFMKVJFVU5J T05GT1JMRFMtQk9PS1NIRUxGTUVNQkVSU0FUVEhFTU9STU9OSElTVE9SWUFTU05NRUVURUlORwAA AAACAQkQAQAAAFcCAABTAgAABQMAAExaRnXDVyaYAwAKAHJjcGcxMjUWMgD4C2BuDhAwMzNPAfcC pAPjAgBjaArAc7BldDAgBxMCgH0KgZJ2CJB3awuAZDQMYE5jAFALAwu1IEMDkXeUZSAQ8HYUIHRo FCCEMXMFQChob3ABEBB1bGx5FIBvIGJHBZEHgBFgbm51B0Ap2QfwZXUDAAIgIAIQBcAATERTLUJv b2vicxSgbGYgB4AG0ASQ7QQgYQVAFJJNBbAEYAOgVkgEABXAchWgQQQQbtYuGHERMGULgGcEIBSQ 4wQABdBheT8UghWgCsAfFCALgBPACYAKwUNpdPx5LgqiCoQKgABwFaALgI8a8AlwFOAJgCwgbBEw QRhxIGtub3cday3cLVMa8BRgHXpQBfAHsBBJQ0sgILAgSSeYbSBzCHAZUUhBFACrAxADIGcfQWIA 0GsVsu55CGEUMRcAdAQgHJEUko0VYHQi8RqgV2UnFGF9EPBkHIAZExxhFfAXYWXTHxAckVF1C4Bj HDESgLsikBXhbAiQFGEZAU4k4P52F/AmwREgGFEnZBSDKBX/GsIbERqgBlEUICSBHEEIYEMSgB1r QklMTAXQY1BLOiBZJJJtBAFp/xRgBCAjcyLiFZEV8C7DCYDvFeAcMRWAHWtXLfEuYCw2+TDBZS0A wAMRKIIXMRSSKlQFEGIda0EuAUVM/FNFLmAuchxDFGAaMQEA/wrBFUAVMB8wHxAohBUiFbL3FKAK wSSDdwIgBIEVYRhx3QQQYSPABCAXMW8nAheScRdSdW1zH+8g9xHhAAE9QAADABAQAAAAAAMAERAA AAAACwABgAggBgAAAAAAwAAAAAAAAEYAAAAAA4UAAAAAAAADAAOACCAGAAAAAADAAAAAAAAARgAA AAAQhQAAAAAAAAMAB4AIIAYAAAAAAMAAAAAAAABGAAAAAFKFAADwEwAAHgAIgAggBgAAAAAAwAAA AAAAAEYAAAAAVIUAAAEAAAAEAAAAOC41AAsADIAIIAYAAAAAAMAAAAAAAABGAAAAAAaFAAAAAAAA AwANgAggBgAAAAAAwAAAAAAAAEYAAAAAAYUAAAAAAAALABaACCAGAAAAAADAAAAAAAAARgAAAAAO hQAAAAAAAAMAF4AIIAYAAAAAAMAAAAAAAABGAAAAABGFAAAAAAAAAwAZgAggBgAAAAAAwAAAAAAA AEYAAAAAGIUAAAAAAAAeACiACCAGAAAAAADAAAAAAAAARgAAAAA2hQAAAQAAAAEAAAAAAAAAHgAp gAggBgAAAAAAwAAAAAAAAEYAAAAAN4UAAAEAAAABAAAAAAAAAB4AKoAIIAYAAAAAAMAAAAAAAABG AAAAADiFAAABAAAAAQAAAAAAAAALADKACCAGAAAAAADAAAAAAAAARgAAAACChQAAAQAAAAsANIAL IAYAAAAAAMAAAAAAAABGAAAAAACIAAAAAAAACwA2gAsgBgAAAAAAwAAAAAAAAEYAAAAABYgAAAAA AAACAfgPAQAAABAAAACpD1qWnrzTEYLBRh8TAAAAAgH6DwEAAAAQAAAAqQ9alp680xGCwUYfEwAA AAIB+w8BAAAAgQAAAAAAAAA4obsQBeUQGqG7CAArKlbCAABQU1RQUlguRExMAAAAAAAAAABOSVRB +b+4AQCqADfZbgAAAEM6XFdJTk5UXFByb2ZpbGVzXGVjY2xlc1xBcHBsaWNhdGlvbiBEYXRhXE1p Y3Jvc29mdFxPdXRsb29rXG91dGxvb2sucHN0AAAAAAMA/g8FAAAAAwANNP03AAACAX8AAQAAADEA AAAwMDAwMDAwMEE5MEY1QTk2OUVCQ0QzMTE4MkMxNDYxRjEzMDAwMDAwQzQ4MDJDMDAAAAAA72E= - ------=_NextPart_000_0015_01C09450.0AA20A20-- - ---------------------------------------------------------- - - LDS-Bookshelf, information and discussion of LDS books - - To unsubscribe, send an email to "majordomo@xmission.com" with - - "unsubscribe lds-bookshelf" (without quotes) in the message body. - - For assistance, mail to "lds-bookshelf-owner@lists.xmission.com" ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Feb 2001 11:38:22 -0700 From: "Dean Eborn" Subject: [LDS-Bookshelf] Mailing addresses - ------=_NextPart_001_0006_01C094E8.4D88AC20 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable I want to start mailing out a list from time to time with a few books I h= ave for sale. I just bought a copy of Platte River Road Narratives Merrill J. Mattes Hardcover, 648pp. ISBN: 0252013425 University of Illinois Press, 1988 which has been on my want list for a couple years. It's hundreds of short (1-3 paragraph) accounts of people who went west through Nebraska (including a few of my relatives). UofIll Press says it's out of print, but Barnes & Noble still has copies. You bet, it is good to be back on the 'Shelf. I was reading an issue of BYU Studies (Winter 1983) in which the Funeral Sermon given for Joseph and Hyrum Smith by W. W. Phelps is published. I haven't seen this in print before, and was wondering if it had been published prior or since? Also, Bro. Phelps refers to Joseph as being one of the "Royal Seventy," a term I had not heard before. Any idea what he is talking about? Roy >>> "Hugh Stocks" 03/05/01 09:57AM >>> YAY!! Bookshelf returns to my inbox. I was suffering severe withdrawal, since I opted NOT to join Stan's substitute list. No intent to share ignorances here, but is it possible Roy, that because in the early years, the phrase "royal priesthood " was used more frequently than today, that it refers to that? Another hypothesis to stimulate thought on the subject is that perhaps the First Quorum having jurisdiction over other 70's quorums, would have been considered "royal" meaning general church wide jurisdiction? The fire feels warm and cozy, as opposed to the conflagration that destroyed the old library. A couple of years ago, while visiting Portland, I bought a book for $6 at Powells. It is entitled "Stephen L. Richards 1879-1959" Published by Heritage Press, and authored by W. Dee Halverson, it looks to be the size and cover type of a popular brand of personal journal sold in some of the church related bookstores (about 6 x 8 in very dark brown, simulated leather looking hardback), and paginates at 188. Is this some revision of a dissertation, or family published volume? Any clues would be helpful.
