Has anyone read or heard about "The Bear River Massacre" by Newell Hart? Again my good friends at Benchmark suggest I buy this second printing. A note is found on the copyright page explaing that the first printing of 500 sold out quickly, so they printed up this second printing in November 1983. They also print a letter from the Shoshone-Bannock tribes to the Newell Hart family giving their condolences and thanking them for Newell Harts setting the record straight about the massacre. Another interesting book Benchmark found for me is "Mormon's Story". Maybe Brian Romriel will explain why this book should be of interest to us. My understanding is that this book caused a bit of a concern with the leadership of the church. It is an easy to read Book of Mormon. I think this and Lynn Matthews Anderson's "Easy To Read BOM" came out about the same time. This scripture gives us writing that were sealed with Moroni (or was it Nephi) and now for the first time a Prophet has revealed them to us. This Prophet (or maybe it's profit) has pictures of the Urim and Thummim and his scribes writing down these precious words from ancient tablets. He even has pictures of his scribes who must be wives(?) or followers. Incredibly he shows us pictures of the tablets! Our Prophet is from the RLDS persuasion, but I am sure he is no longer a member. This incredible piece of scripture was sold to me by my good friend Hugh McKell. I believe Hugh would never lead me astray and I have found great joy in this new scripture. I hope all of you go out and buy this new discovery. I am sure your joy will be as complete as mine.

Extra. August 24, 1985. N.p. [c.1985 The Journal of Mathematical Theology . . .] 21 1/2 cm. Single sheet folded to form [4] pages. Front wrapper illustrated in color from Harry Anderson's "The Second Coming." Weird, and evidently one of only fifty examples printed, numbered carefully in blue ink in a corner of the back page, "14/50." I am competent neither to comprehend this publication nor to guess whether it was issued in dead earnest or in jest. Printed on an ordinary blank LDS ward program sheet (produced by Press Publishing, Provo, Utah), this curiosity reproduces seven short music passages - without lyrics -by composers ranging from Mozart to John Lennon, assembled under the heading, "A performing edition of the musical portions of the Book of Revelation." On the final page is "A Vision" in three verses by "Jesus, August 12, 1985," with such unforgettably sublime prose as "Know how we'll do the Last Judgment? The reason is simple; writing that is as solid, straightforward, honest, and intelligent as Adams himself. McCollough captures the flavor of Adams's life and times in a way few biographers can. His book will satisfy the most demanding scholar, and it may even covert those with a casual interest into history fans...." A brief follow up to the below (where I document a 1913 BoM reaching a price of $760 on Ebay), that I have been meaning to post for some time. The same book was relisted by the unrealisitic seller and instead of exceeding $700, it stopped at $77.50. Here is the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1467883659 And another 5th Independence Edition sold for $52.11. The link is: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1467802039 Too summarize: while Ebay prices at time reach unspeakable heights, often they fall within normal (or even below normal) ranges.
