You can find those old NASA samples all over KLF and early Orb material as well many other bands not worth mentioning. He fled the US before he was sentenced and has been a fugitive ever since. The funny thing is that Genisis P. Orrige (spelling?) the key member of Psychic TV has been rumored to have the same fetish for "young" women. I have heard that is why he left the UK and has taken residence in the US. It ALSO seems that there are samples taken from the version of "Ride of the Valkyries" (Die Walkurie--Richard Wagner) done by Tomita...Tomita's version is ultra-slow.... Another sample of Tomita's music is on FSOL's _Lifeforms_ album. Specifically, Tomita's album _Bermuda Triangle_ is sampled left and right on that FSOL album. Does anyone out there actually have that Tomita album? It is no longer in print in the U.S.--I have an old vinyl version (clear blue)...it's one of my favorite Tomita records.... I have his entire in-print catalog. I'm looking for it on cd.... I'm also looking for his version of Grofe's _Grand Canyon Suite_.... _Bermuda Triangle_, by-the-way, is mostly electronic realizations of Prokofiev.... It was the very first (and probably ONLY) album ever recorded in PENTAphonic sound.... It was to be listened to in normal quad, with the fifth speaker suspended above--like a pyramid.... Problem is: no record player was ever designed to play something like that, so all the versions were released either in in stereo or quad. Oh well.... What I actually meant about "No Fun" above (1st quote) was that, for me at least, it sounds like a very 'do-able' piece, meaning that it's not an unbelievably amazing mix, just a fun take on an old fave of theirs (presumably it's a fave...). The "Live Vegas Mix" also doesn't sound too fantastic, especially compared with live stuff on "Live 93" or even to the somewhat muddy live stuff on the "Dipping in the Cyberworld" boot. In contrast, when I listen to studio tracks like "Delta Mk II" or "Plateau" or something really well-mixed and produced, and I'm listening from the standpoint of "how would I try to make a recording that sounds like that, using the kinds of studio gear I'm familiar with (sampers, synths, processors, mixing console, etc.)?" I'm just baffled by a lot of their material. "Oxbow Lakes" and "Blue Room" and the like are just so damned complicated from a production standpoint that it makes me almost want to throw up my hands and say "Good grief!" (a-la Charlie Brown) "How the hell am I going to learn to do that?!" "No Fun" and the "Vegas" mix don't make me feel this way, as I think they're fine pieces but not especially brilliant as far as mixing and production goes. Now the 303, or the TR-808 and -909...THOSE are everywhere. Still are (not that I mind, really). What I'm gathering about Mr. LX, though, is that it appears he's not all that stuck on particular pieces of trendy gear, and makes his (imo) very original take on electronic dub/whatever with whatever gear he and the mates (Andy, Thomas, etc.) get hold of. You see, I'm in a bit of a dilemma. On the list I've seen recent talk about the Orb putting out a 2nd "Auntie Aubreys" type remix disc. Which I'm looking very foward to if it falls through. The first one was complete bliss.....with the exception of a few tracks. Well, recently I've been tempted to buy the bootleg remix albums "Icons of the Orb" and "Morphology." But at the same time I'm a little hesitant. It would be a real bummer to buy these discs, which I haven't seen priced less than 25 bucks, only to have the same tracks reappear on the new Auntie Aubrey disc/s. And I know the new Auntie Aubrey would be priced no more than 25-30 bucks. See where I'm getting at?? Either spend close to 50 bucks for the quick fix of the remixes on the bootlegs. Or wait to see which tracks will be on the new Auntie Aubrey when it comes out. Are there any hints to which remixes will be on the new AA? Smiley said something about working to get the U2 numb mix on there.....but any others know yet? Please help a fellow "smoker" with an expensive habit out. Thanks.....
