Yeah, it's professionalism and a true feel for the style.. i have some respect for Bill Laswell and all, but he really just seems to take his pick, depending on what's popular (of course he's into drum&bass now.. gack)-- anyhow, Mad Professor is a true innovator, I love all of his stuff-- i recommend the compilation that's a sort of 'best of'.. its called 'Its a Mad Mad Mad Mad Professor' on ARIWA records.. top tunes, and as a special bonus you get the infamous 'fast forward into dub' where the blue room 'aoooaooaowahhahh' vocal came from.. its sitting there clean in the mix.. =) You can hear things that influenced LX and friends throughout the professor's work.. again, i highly recommend it - -dan g # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info orb" in the message. # Postings must go to orb@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. # Latest Orb info: http://www.theorb.com/orbulletins.html -- look here first! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Apr 1998 06:27:57 +0300 (EEST) From: Dan Grandpre Subject: Re: (orb) Textures.... Not really scared, no.. But once some friends of mine and I were listening to PF, also on acid but it didn't do much for us, we figured that it was because the album itself was such a baby of acid that no matter how much LSD we would fill ourselves with it would stay be the same.. That and of course Plastikman.. Plastikman rules BTW. "We're happy to be with you, all listeners near and far... and in a song we brought along, we'll tell you who we are." This sample is used on the second Peel Sessions CD without all the distortion and sounds like a barbershop quartet. Pomme Fritz never scared me, but has had the effect of making me angry (well, I was already angry at the time but the song was a good vent for it). I like the CD with its contrast between the angry guy saying "I will fight! I will fight!" (Jim Jones?) and the blissed out lady saying "It's really just the sun" with a part in the middle having the Orb do dumb stuff like making the samples go "berrlooop!" By the way, does anyone know what this sample is saying - I know the first part "But there were honest men, with dreams, who would fight to protect their..." followed by what sounds like "mystical creations" or something like that. I could never figure it out. Similarly, what about the "Sneezy" sample which ends in something like "Chewin' out the backrat" (but obviously that doesn't make sense). If I knew the samples I'm sure I'd have a better idea what's being said here... not that it really matters, but I'm curious. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Email majordomo@xmission.com with "info orb" in the message. # Postings must go to orb@xmission.com -- replies go to original sender. # Latest Orb info: http://www.theorb.com/orbulletins.html -- look here first! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 08 Apr 1998 19:28:26 +0800 From: Kael Driscoll Subject: (orb) 12" of orb greetings orbalicious ones yes, that time has come... the annual "I need some money to pay the bills Orb sellout" :) I have two rare items on offer, both on 12" vinyl: (thanks to Laszlo's discog again... what would we do without Laszlo?)
