It was just hard to get in the US when it was released (import only), and hasn't gotten any easier. It was readily available in the UK, at least. The people who want real copies probably tend to be collectors, as well as fans. For instance, I do have a copy of FFWD on vinyl, but would much prefer a CD copy, for various reasons. As it is still virgin, I hope to one day trade it for a CD copy, or something else that I need. Also, Smiley mentioned a while ago that the Orb and/or Fripp were buying back the rights to FFWD, and would eventually re-release it (or something along those lines). So, at some point there may well be new copies available again. Hi all, This particular american thinks the Orb is anything BUT electronica. The Crystal Mthod is elctronica--if we must label something. The Orb, to me, is natural/hyperspatial/mood enhancing/spaceflight enhancing art. There's a large cave that we go in often, and the Orb is always the 'house' music. It's amazing how natural they sound deep in the bowels of the Earth. This caused me to de-lurk for a moment, so I'll go ahead and ask this question. I'm looking for anything from the Orb, except the one's that are readily available here in the U.S. I've currently got: UFOrb Orblivion Pomme Fritz Orbus Terrarum These are all I can find here in Missouri, and would pay nicely for some more obscure stuff. Anyone interested in making me a cd-r or that has some extra copies of something, private e mail me. Like I said, I'll make it worth whoever's while. May I point out one thing though: After seeing Autechre in The Front Page (Belfast) - this was the first Research & Development gig - I decided I would never visit the place again, or at least not until they put in a new sound system. I have a better Hi-Fi in my living room than they have in that bar! Its a nice enough wee place but the shape is not that great and the sound is diabolical - Autechre played there for about 20 minutes then stormed out of the building! Other acts who have played (poor people obviously didn't know what they were letting themselves in for) were Luke Vibert, U-Ziq, Third Eye Foundation, Dirty Beatniks and someone else I can't remember the name of (short term memory again!!! :)... My point is though, if you can tell him to change venue - DO! If he were to go for somewhere better he could get a bigger crowd (the Front Page is a small bar in a bad area - I was warned years ago never to go there as it was a bit on the sectarian side at the time) and get a better sound. The last time Le Petit Orb played was in the Mandela Hall (Students Union); but even the Limelight (bar for 16 year olds, but with a great sound system and decent lights) or The Empire (I hate this place, but the sound is quite good and there is enough room to move around (pity the bar is crap). I think though, Mandela Hall would be best - as part of "Shine", the dj thing they do every week! Dj Lewis has played it a few times (but none of them have been there fo years!!!). Anyway, I will be in Colchester for a couple of weeks then Wales for a couple more weeks - Anybody tell me the best nightclub/bar in the london area on a Friday/Saturday night??? And, is it true that most bars shut at 11pm over in England (over here its 1am 7 days a week in most places :). Thanx again Smiley - and you will get that tape!!! What's up with that? I just received a copy of the Orb live bootleg "Dipping Into the Cyberworld" from a reputable mail order company, not known for dealing in bootlegs. This version was produced by a different company (Trance) than the original release (Psycho Studios). Both of them have UPC symbols (different ones) too. Since this isn't on Island, it must be a boot, but damn, they sure have a lot of people fooled! If you haven't heard this CD (which contains the Orb's Woodstock concert) you owe it to yourself to find a copy. Outlands is phenomenal! And I'd rate the sound quality on both sections as excellent. Subject: (orb) Date: Fri, 5 Jun 1998 19:01:57 -0500 has anyone out there ever heard of "trancenden"? they're a rather small-scale electronic music group out there on the internet. mp3 files of their music are available for free on their website, which i do not have available to me right now. but you can find them on mp3.com. anyway, they have a track called "waltz of the lost ravers". good track; it includes a sample of some of the theme music from the movie "city of lost children" (strange movie). anyway, in this song, they also sample the little healing session thing from live 93 by the orb - where the guy on stage is asking the other guy "any pain? any pain? hallelujah!". funny! # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 5 Jun 1998 20:50:05 EDT From: Subject: (orb) Re: Who is the man?
