As far as we know the Orb are not actually the guys who did these remixes which kinda makes me wonder how much better they would be if they had been done by the Orb!! That being said let's talk briefly about the trance remixes. There are ten AFAIK; Animals, DSOTM, Wish You Were Here, Absolutely Ambient, Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, Obscured by Clouds, Momentary Lapse of Reason, Division Bell, Welcome to Remix. I own Animals (the worst one of the ones I have), Absolutely Ambient which contains remixes not on any of the other trance remixes and is very good. I also have Wish You Were Here which is absolutely f***ing amazing. Granted WYWH is my fav PF of all time but I think this CD is trippy enough to lend itself very well to a trance remix. I like it. I like it a lot! Now, back to our regularly scheduled program... Andrew http://ntfp.globalserve.net/dolega "...it's something that comes from another space..." As anticipated, mass dancing in the streets has broken out from Dundee to Dunedin (or possibly only in Dundee and Dunedin - details are sketchy). Little dogs have been singing along with early radio broadcasts of the song and one happy fan in Stoke is said to have been playing 'keepy-up' with a human head, possibly that of a neighbour, since yesterday morning. The public is advised, however, not to use up all its excitement at once, as there's an album, 'Top Banana', still to come (on June 29). WHATEVER YOU DO, it is ESSENTIAL that you preserve enough energy to go to a record shop later today and purchase a copy of 'The Reefer Song'. Pointed yet poignant, seething yet soothing, the Hoover's singular songs mark out a unique territory, like a tomcat pissing up a pole. Some say he's the missing link between Lenny Bruce, Acid House, Carly Simon and The Magic Roundabout. Others say he's a "one-man hell carpet". For others, he has been the great unsinging hero of the Deviant roster, as his sky-rocket career has been somewhat suspended in orbit, a bit like that space station, since its spectacular launch with his acclaimed 'Don't Take Ecstasy' single in 1952. Despite several rave reviews for the 'Top Banana' album, its release has now been delayed for some time, along with the much-anticipated Orb remix of 'The Reefer Song'. But don't despair!! THIS MONTH sees the release of BOTH! Stay tuned to this site, and press, for further details - although it's debatable how many more we can get on to this page. Meanwhile, it's increasingly unlikely that Mindless will be playing one of his inimitable (well, no one's ever tried it) live shows near you. ***** i'd recommend getting the album, as all the tracks from the single are on it, plus lots of other gems. i THINK deviant do a mail-order service too... cheers. - -- Smiley # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Jun 1998 08:08:19 -0500 From: John Goelzer Subject: RE: (orb) Orb with lyrics.... Subsequent mails described it as a pressing plate and later as an acetate with assassin and numb. I could not be sure if he actually had all of these or just the one. Possibly he had no clue what he was talking about or he was just lying. In any case I decided to keep out of it. A friend forwarded an e-mail from Mark with the true description of the acetate and an explanation of why he was selling it again. He said the current owner was not satisfied with his purchase. ...something like he didn't feel like he should have to give a refund, but he was willing to do it if he could find a buyer at the same price. Almost 6 months ago there was an argument about Jungle on this list and he said he would make a mix of the best jungle to anyone who sent him a tape and postage money. I have contacted him several times but he still hasn't sent me the tape. I am not bitching about being ripped off (the value is not important) but it is more of an honour code within the list. I have been a part of about 11 or so deals now with list members, all of which were done on faith and were satisfied. cheers, Danjel "What's the color of a chameleon put onto a mirror?" -Steward Brand # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Jun 1998 14:39:19 -0500 (CDT) From: Daryl S Denison Subject: Re: (orb) FrankieG chameleons don't like mirrors, they turn brown....... oh yea, ORB Rules....but Kratfwerk puts on a better show........ How about turning them into mp3s and uploading them to the orb ftp archive so that we can hear them too? :) There's a tutorial on encoding mp3s at http://howto.layer3.org/ ... you can use cdcopy[1] to move tracks from a CD to your computer -- or, for the tapes, you could plug your tape player into your computer's line in and use cooledit[2]. Then use MP3 Compressor[3] to make .mp3s out of them... Hello out there evrybody! I have the following up for grabs if anybody is interested. Prices are negotiable, and trades are welcome. *Priority given to anyone willing to make me a good CD-R burn of the Aubrey Mixes.* =) 1) Perpetual Dawn 12" Picture Disc (ORB PICTURE 3)- "strictly limited promo edition". Artwork similar to the UK single picture sleeve. Very nice piece. It has four tracks, but for the life of me I couldn't tell you what they are off hand-- will do some checking if anybody is interested. looking for $20 for this one, and that includes shipping in the US. UNPLAYED and MINT. 2) Towards the Evening Star(LC6448)- UK Cd single by Tangerine Dream with the Orb doing a long remix on the flipside. Two tracks: 1. album mix 2. Mandarine Cream remix Comes in a green digi-pack, and is still in the glassline sleeve it came in (MINT). i am looking for $10 for this one, and that includes the shipping in the US. 3) Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld- Patterns and Textures Version (The Soundtrack. This is the Cd that I'm sure you all know was "exclusive to the video", and "not to be sold seperately", but I'm doin' it anyhow. Comes in a black and white cardboard sleeve, and has the follwing cuts on the disc: 1. Little Fluffy Clouds 2. Earth (gaia) 3. Towers of Dub 4. Perpetual Dawn 5. Star 6 & 7 8 9 6. Outlands 7. Outro Its not in mint condition, but it is pretty damn close. I am looking for $30 for this, and once again (you guessed it)-- shipping is included stateside. 4) Little Fluffy Clouds- US Promotional Only 12" vinyl single. Gold foil stamp on the reverse of the outer picturer sleevesays "promotional use only", as wel as the center label which has been printed with words to the same effect (e.g. yeah, its promo only, and not just a stamped version of a standardly released 12". The tracks are: A-side: 1. Cumulonimbus mix (6:10) 2. Dis Joint Don't Argue Mix (6:38) (coldcut remix exclusive to this promo I believe-- could be wrong) B-side: 1. Dance Mix MK I edit (3:59) 2. Inner Master Mix (3:58) 3. Outlands- Fountains of Elisha Mix (8:00) The whole thing is in ver very very near mint condition-- beautiful to be sure-- including the inner sleeve. I am looking for $27 on this one, and am not very flexible here, as I paid more than twice that (call me crazy). 5) A Huge Ever Growing Brain . . .- UK Bootleg re-releases. These are the 12" singles re-released on the big isle some three or four years back now. Both are stamped "WAU Recordings", and "Mr. Modo", but only one has a part number (MWS017T) Two seperate 12" in plain black sleeves with the follwoing mixes: Disc 1: A-side: Orbital Dance Mix B-side: Orbital Radio Mix Aubrey Mix MK II Disc 2: A-side: Loving You Bucket _____ Mix Why is Six Scared of Seven I think I want about $24 for the pair which are STILL SEALED (Heck, it will cost me $5.00 just to ship 'em)-- with shipping of course in the US . . . 6) Orb Factor 6- The Kiss E.P.- This is a "12" 33 Limited Edition D.J. Pre-Release" in a plain black sleeve (well, with only the promotional information on it, and a barcoded sticker with the part number (MWS010T or is it MS 1739002--well, either way). Has an inner sleeve. The center label of the vinyl itself has seen better days, but the vinyl is solid. This one by route of Smiley (wink =), so you know it must be good. Well, here's the track listing: "Side Roof": Kiss Your Love Suck My Kiss Mix "Floor Side": The Roof is On Fire Ambiorix Mix Dunno what to ask for this one, but I know shipping is included. Snicker! Uhm, trades or offers are cool for this one I guess . . . Alright, also got some non-Orb goodies too I hope ya'all don't mind me putting up . . . 1) Razormaid Level 1: Way out of print-- first disc in the series. Tracks are like this: 1. Jaco- Show Some Love 2. Sublime- The Theme 3. Transform- Transformation 4. Underworld- Mmm...Skyscraper I Love You 5. Red Flag- Rescue 6. Beam- Get Higher 7. Hole in 1- X Paradise 8. Energized- Alternate Energy 9. Q Bass- It's About Heart 10. Unique Selling Proposition- Medley 11. CJ Bolland- The 4th Sign This one is not mint, but has never seen its intended Dj service either, so isn't too bad off. $14 gets you the disc, and gets it to you if you're stateside. 2) Future Sound of London- Limited Edition boxed CD and book set for Dead Cities-- 1 of 10,000- Standard CD, but includes a miniature 196 page book of digital art done up by the boys. They fit together in a slipcase with a sticker on it that indicates it as a limited edition set. The celephane is stillon it, though opened, and there is a larger sticker on this indicating the same. The whole thing is MINT and UNPLAYED. I am looking for $20 for it, and to get it to you . . . Well, that is it for now-- lemme know if you're interested, and lets work something out . . . . . . .
