No. The Orb is a group of artists, who just so happen to be started by Alex Patterson along with Jimmy Cauty, (who moved on to other things.. btw.. am i right about this?). My understanding -- which is reflected in the discography, btw -- is that the Geep track is in fact an Orb remix of Haruomi Hosono's "Laughter Meditation". I honestly don't know either way for lx -- last time I heard him spin was in LA for the Orb '95 tour and I was paying more attention to the folks around me (while he was spinning) than anything else. (They were an interesting bunch...) However, a lot of DJ's have to be in that situation -- often worse. Crappy equipment, people bugging you from all sides, large flashing flights and more heads than you can count paying attention to every beat you lay down. Happy Hardcore DJ's often deal with an MC chanting over the music too which I'm sure can be quite a distraction. Yet they pull it off -- the good ones succeed. - -Steve - -- ______________________________________________________________________________ Steve Shah (sshah@cs.ucr.edu) | SysAdmin/Coder/Gabbernaut/DJ/Writer/Minister http://www.cs.ucr.edu/~sshah | We're not dropping out, we're infiltrating. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Beating code into submission, one operating system at a time... # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Aug 1998 13:37:26 -0400 (EDT) From: "Benjamin L. Fair enough Charles, I will give you that as far as eclectism is music is concerned. My comment was more with respect DJing technique. A friend of mine described, as we watched him spin one night, as, "Steel toed boots in a dryer set on low." I've got a question about. The Geep sounds very similar to song from "Auntie Aubrey's..." by Yasuaki Shimizu "Secret Squirrel". Is it a mistake, or the same samples (2 many samples IMHO).
