Beat mixing is a skill, and it RULES, but it doesn't always make you a great DJ. Although, "train wrecks" will stop anyone dancing! I think this came about because of English record companies trying to manipulate the singles charts during the 80's. a company would release a single in different formats (extra 7", "limited edition double 7", picture disc 7", boxed 7", 2 different 12", 2 different cd5, packaged w/ postcards, posters, t-shirts, videos, etc.etc. most formats had different tracks spread across the releases, so when the fans ran out & purchased one of each format, it seemed to indicate massive sales, as each sale counted towards the final weekly count. this had the effect of making a modest-selling release look like it was tearing up the charts (wow! it's a hit!) the 20 min. limit was in effect for the Blue Room release, as the 12'' was edited into 2- 20 min. parts. dan # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Aug 98 18:24:43 -0500 From: nhetrick Subject: Re: (orb) Re: What else? An even deeper level to this joke is that both men are dead so obviously neither is going to be around to talk on the phone. What would prevent it? You lost me. Marcus Garvey was dead for 8 years before the first Apartheid laws were enacted in 1948. I find it interesting that you believe Garvey was on an "anti-apartheid *tip* (I can't believe you used that word)" before racial discrimination was officially institutionalized in South Africa. Here's more resources if anyone is interested. Lake Shore Records actually came through with what does appear to be an original copy of the patterns & textures video. i actually ordered it through gemm.com (i think) and it was $24. it took about 3 weeks, from 'submit' to my doorstep, and its in an original case, and the tape is of high quality. (although the label on the actual video cassette looks like it was printed out on a computer - does everyone's look like this, or have i been scammed?) even if its not the original, the case sure seems to be, and i can tell no difference in the quality of the video itself. the exquisite Camel's Hump Remix of the Cranberries' Zombie, Pandaharmonium off of The Penguin Cafe Orchestra's Preludes, Airs & Yodels (thanks for introducing me to that track, Smiley!) and the Yellow's remix cd Hands On Yellow, with the orb's Excess track, i managed to find at http://www.ab-cd.com - a most excellent and amiable online cd store! i highly recommend them in all ways, and they frequently carry the woodstock bootleg, Dipping Into the Cyberworld (or whatever its called). they fill orders rapidly, and the only delay i've ever experienced was due to, you guessd it, UPS. just wanted to alert everyone to the goldmine that's out there if you're willing to dig for it!!! =) rachel # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ End of orb-digest V2 #96 ************************
