What I ask is this--and this goes primarily to those in the U.S., since I have no idea what postage rates are within other nations: What, exactly, IS the advantage to ordering a cd from an online store? My reasoning: first, the prices are NOT usually cheaper than what you find in a store. Secondly, with the outrageous shipping and handling charges, it jacks the price up ANOTHER $5! They're a bunch of collective ripoffs, if you ask me. I got charged $5 shipping from both AB-CD (I think it's somewhere in New England) AND Recordrama (in Pittsburgh--right in my own backyard!). Why you ask? Well for some people (including myself), these online music stores are the only place they can find certain things, such as rare, deleted, non-mainstream things, etc.. Though people in my situation _could_ have people in other cities get things for them, then ship them for a much lower price, it is also much more time consuming, and much harder to do. Maybe it's just me and my laziness, but the ripoff is a lot easier. For instance, i bought the Perpetual Dawn US CDS and the Orbscure Trax promo from an online store, and my total was around $50 after shipping costs. I know i got ripped of pretty bad, but to me, it was worth it. Both rare (well.. Orbscure is _kind of_ rare), both not printed anymore, and both nothing i would find locally. let the ranting and raving continue, but i'm done. :) Charlie spinning: Coldcut - Let Us Play i just baught this disc.. its awesome! # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Sep 1998 16:42:44 EST5EDT From: "Vince Frank" Subject: Re: (orb) BUYERS BEWARE > sad to see this total breakdown of trust.... this is the second time i've > gotten jacked by an online record store, and its leaving a really sour > taste in my mouth. ===>Indeed. It's a cool issue, because * It contains 2 CDs (The Essential Sample Collection and another one with a cool track (not exclusive) by Kirsty Hawkshaw, among other artists) * There is, page 95, the Korg Ad featuring Andy Hughes the greatest ! * There is a review (with record picture included) of Thomas Fehlmann - Flowing : ninezer onineight (Apollo) * There is a short LX interview about UFoff; the next album (the Other one !). I'll post every day two Q & A from it to entertain you, OK ? So let's start... Q : There probably aren't that many people who see the Orb as a greatest hits band. Doesn't it make you feel like Dean Martin ? A : Dean Martin... yeah , kind of. The funny thing is that is's also 10 years of the Orb so it rounds things off very nicely. I will admit it was a bit funny looking back at all those songs. Q : Did it make you feel like old-timers ? A : I think we've got a long way to go yet. There are still a lot of people I used to listen to 10 years ago who are still going now and still producing good music. Look at Derrick May. I was on a BBC documentary with Derrick May last year... that was a very proud moment for me. See you tomorrow... JCFromParis On now : dktr t - Chugg Oh, and BTW, Talvin Singh's "OK" is a great album ! # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Sep 1998 10:35:14 EDT From: LiquidW@aol.com Subject: (orb) trade HELLO ,....heres the deal...
