There is _some_ grounds for such a comparison, such as the extensive use of weird vocal samples, general spacey electronic sound, and mellow mood, but Irresistable Force is clearly not the Orb. However, I'd say it's true that the Orb generally haven't lived up to at least _my_ expectations over the last few albums. Like Mixmaster Morris, they keep putting out material with occasional great sounds, with moments of sheer genius (it's why we gather on this mailing list, after all), but somehow there is always something that falls a bit short of what we envision they could achieve. "It's Tomorrow Already" is just about 100% of what Mixmaster Morris is capable of on a good day, and that's very good indeed. The Orb _could_ do the same tomorrow, and I think that's where the comparison is valid. > While i think it's a great bit of chill out music, it's > not mixmaster morris' best, and it sounds quite dated compared to a lot of > what is going on.. Au contraire. I think it _is_ some of MM's best. I've got everything he's released on CD, and while I love his sound generally, he has a tendency to use chintzy sounding sythesizer effects a little too often. I don't know what you mean by "dated" sound, but "It's Tomorrow Already" sounds a helluva lot less cheesey than "Global Chillage" does in places. I think his new sound palate is great, with a smooth blend of retro space-effects and samples. "It's Tomorrow Already" couples the tradmark Irresistable Force chill sound with a far more tastefull selection of effects and samples to give an overall smoothness he hasn't achieved since "Dreamfish". It's his "76:14", in my oppinion. Give it a try, it's quality goods. grant.. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 9 Nov 1998 08:55:09 -0500 From: "Andrew Cieszkowski" Subject: RE: Fw: (orb) Ca.. ca.. can we all just get along? > I'm not sure about the cover to Ultraworld, mine's black with purple > logo too, I'm not sure if I'm the only one here who has ever actually opened the ABTU cover but the Battersea power station is on the inside of mine, floating upsidedown in a nice orblike way!!
