It was made by Bally, released in 92, designed by 2 big Dr. Who buffs, and is fun to play, especially if you like Dr. Who. Well, on this pass through my collection, I've noticed several discs with the beginnings of that sort of corrosion. So far, they have all been UK imports from the late '80's to early '90's. IIRC, they all seem to be from the same pressing plant, too. I've only had one with audible static so far...but I'm sure it will get worse. Hopefully, it won't be a widespread problem for a few more years yet. The industry has always maintained that CDs won't last forever, but they should last for more than a decade. If large numbers of CDs start to go bad, I'm sure we will see some class-action lawsuits... > just to add some orb content, does anyone know if there are any remixes > of 'outlands'? i could have swore i heard a dj spin one at an la > 'orblivion' album release party a couple of years ago. To reply to myself; I've just taken a look at the CDs I have with me at work today, and more than a few of them say something very much like "if you don't scratch them up or dip them in solvent, they will last a lifetime". Given that, I'm positive we'll be seeing some class-action lawsuits. Normally, I'd say that we shouldn't take that kind of shit from the co's but imagine the Orb in 5-channel sound! They could introduce the switch now (meaning the technology exists) but a) few artists will record in it b) few consumers are willing to spend the $600+ to buy an AC-3 ready reciever c) it'll be quite convenient to wait for more CDs to decay and d) if DVD movies become the standard, consumers will have the equipment already thus 5-channel sound for music will be an easy sell. I've heard the difference between Dolby Pro-Logic and Dolby Digital. Digital wins easily. If the Orb were to do their music in 5-channel surround, I'd find the money to switch my reciever and get a sub-woofer. Fortunately, for myself, I don't listen to any of the CDs I owned ten years ago. - -Joseph - ---------------------------------------------------------------- |Joseph Jun | | |Loomis Lab. of Physics | --"These nerds are a threat | |1110 W.
