How else could you explain the chart positions of virtually EVERY SINGLE ROCK/POP ARTIST DURING THE 1990s?!? I'd bet I could count on one hand the number of songs released for commercial play during the 1990s that are even remotely decent.... In fact, radio music in general has been crap since about 1984 (about the time Duran Duran released their third album), thanks in large part to MTV.... The grunge "scene" was a joke--a weak attempt at reinventing the doom 'n' gloom scene so tragically inspired by groups like Joy Division...but failing miserably, because it sounds more like whining than genuine despair.... Most pop music (a la Celine Dion, et al.) sounds like the same sappy crap that came out of the 1970s (remember Debbie Boone?). And this fixation with disco music quite frankly baffles ME--didn't the general public tell it to go to Hell with the first (ha!) punk "revolution"? This is the reason why I listen to Orb and FSOL.... No one told me they were the "new hot item"; rather, I just listened to them by chance...and I liked them--without anyone else telling me to.... People with musical tastes such as mine are in a really bizarre predicament--compared to what was available in the late 1970s/early 1980s--there really IS no alternative in rock music. Back then, there was punk and "new wave" to turn to.... Nowadays, the "alternative" (what a joke!) is just as crappy--IF NOT MORE SO--than the so-called mainstream. (And has anyone in the U.S. noticed that Marilyn Manson is now considered part of the Goth movement??? And he's part of the *underground*??? I guess that means Christian Death and Alien Sex Fiend have a good chance at scoring a top-40 hit, huh?) :-) Sorry--I'll shut up now.... Tom Baker was on the Black Adder (the second incarnation, Black Adder II, my favorite). Tom Baker was also the U.S.'s first introduction to Dr. Who (but the fourth incarnation of Dr. Who, if I'm not mistaken). The KLF "reworked" the Dr. Who theme for "Doctorin' the Tardis," and...we all know how the Orb ties in with the KLF.... So, I guess this spiel about Brian Blessed and the Black Adder really DOES have something to do with the Orb.... Oh! I almost forgot the original reason: he was in Flash Gordon, which was sampled on "Earth (Gaia)".... TWO links! It is VERY cool, and there is a lot of really good music being broadcast out there. You can find it at www.mp3spy.com. I am currently broadcasting, off and on when I am not using my computer, the contents of the OAA. You can find my server under the Ambient category, it's called The DoggHouse. Anyway, check it out, especially if you have a high speed connection. There are many servers running at 56 and 128 bps.
