I am in agreement with the Orb Fan Page. It's a good idea, I think besides bios, there should be info. on the Orb and links to other pages - like theorb.com or ant's page. also, it'd be cool if someone archived the mailing list on there and I vote that only listmembers have access to the page. With bios and what not, i wouldn't want just anybody going to it. Maybe the OAA can be relocated, too... also, ultraworld.org is good, but how about orbasm.org ? Now that would be a kick ass name. Ultraworld.org I think is the best name, and here's why. #1 The ABTU album is really so magical. The word juxtaposition (ultra + world) I feel would encompass the spirit of the orb, like no other title. Dot Org, as far as my connotation goes, always signified a non profit organization, i.e. people that do it for the *love* of it. As far as design goes, (BTW I'm Eric - Scott mentioned me in his post), I have about 2-4 hours "dead time" every day at work. Just don't tell my boss that ;-) Actually, I work in a design firm that does a lot of work for CompuServe... anyway, they hired 2 people instead of 1 to replace the lazy "professional" that had resigned. So, my work load is not very filled, and my boss doesn't throw very much work at me, to make a long story short - I have time to work on this project at work, where my I-net connection is fast and I have all my best design tools... Rachel and Holli - Send me an email and We can talk strengths and weaknesses and see where we overlap. As a complete shockwave would be a pretty big task, maybe Holli can design a Shockwave Intro clip? or any other orb-inspired Flash animation she wants to throw at us? Going with Scott's suggestion, The type of form actions he described would take CGI technology, and the fact that that he offered to host the Web Site as well means that CGI hosting would be no problem on his end. I haven't written any CGI programs yet, but funny that, I had found an HTML / CGI web manual on sale at Barnes 'n' Nobles. So I can learn. It came with a CD of free scripts, so I should be able to alter it enough to suit our needs. I also like the Idea Charlie brought up - For those that are competent in HTML please by all means , submit your bio in that way. The form should allow for those that would like to be included in the page, but do not have the skills/time/etc. to work up their own. As for your fear of a generic layout, the form information submitted by the user, would only be used as a basis for their page, As it would not be fitted into a pre made template and posted with out human direction. I take pride in my coding and if given the chance to work on this project, would let each person's individuality shine through as much as possible. I think Everyone's input is needed to paint a graphic picture. each being tweaked into the main interface and feel of the whole. This is going to be really fun guys. We can really branch out from here and create a real community around the list. I'm sure that other elements can be incorporated into the page than one big gallery of bios. A chat room, old skool message board ,maybe? Concert Dates, A link to the theorb.com and laszlo's Discog. An Ultraworld.org Web Mail address? Besides posting Orb-related fan-art, the list goes on and on... A little of these are far fetched and probably unnecessary, but we could/should be as creative as we can :-) Any thoughts on this? I just got this in the mail. Here's what Lazlo had posted: > CD5: 1993 UK (Island/InterModo; ??) [promo] > > 12:33 Towers of Dub (live orbient 3 september 1993) > [longer than lp] > > 14:58 Blue Room (copenhagen 28 august 1993) [longer > than lp?] this is what I can tell: CD5: 1993 UK (Island/Intermodo cd orb 1) [promo] 16:39 towers of dub (live orbient 3 sept 93) [disc is mislabled 12:33] 15:12 blue room (copenhagen 28 aug 93) [disc is mislabelled 14:58] TOD has about 3 minutes more music after the point the album version fades out, and 1 minute or so of distorted applause. Blue Room has 15 seconds of applause after the fade out, and is labled "blueroom" as 1 word on the disc. Does anyone know if this disc had a sleeve or a sticker lable on a jewel case, or came as just the disc? Gavin _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Recording the show from the soundboard should be allowed. Alex - I guarantee it will insure future sales! I dont have to point out what is obvious to you...... on top of all the others , anyone who hears a copy of one of those shows will run to buy the other records , and in this case , you know they will buy more. I will also like to suggest some sort of *caravan* along the west coast for Orbs next tour. I'm willing to follow orb around anywhere , and i'm sure we can all pool together , work it out ,multiply the craziness a bit , and alll get around much happier and cheaper. allrighty then im' goin to bed # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 09 Jun 1999 22:20:27 -0700 From: cory Subject: (orb) auction, rare orb stuff Hello! Well, let me start off by saying that i have never done an auction before, but i will do my best to do a fair job of it. Anyway, I will only post leading bids twice before i close. If you want setlist information, or further descriptions of the stuff, plese feel free to ask. If the winning bid is not a fair price, i reserve the right to cancel. For example, i wont take $10 and a big 'thank you' for the aubrey mixes. Of course, references are available at request as well. And, onto the stuff.... I have this too, but didn't give it that much attention until now. Mine is also in a thin clear jewel case with no graphics. The times on the cd are definately mislabeled. Also I went to Bear Pride in Chicago recently and while I was there I found Faker by Audioweb and Cocksville USA in the same store (2nd hand tunes) and also got a bootleg of Patterns and Textures video with realy distorted audio at Video Beat (sure feel that way). I have a 300min videotape of the "Electronic Beats" concert in Cologne (May 13th 1999). It was taped from German TV so the quality is really good. The concert features live performances by Khan, Jimi Tenor, Mouse On Mars, Gus Gus and Underworld. In between there are interviews with each of the acts, mostly in English (except for Khan and Mouse On Mars who are German, anyway). If anyone outside Germany is interested in trading a copy of it for something else, preferably Orb-related, please e-mail me privately.
