As has already been said, it is hard to deny the enormous influence Genesis P-Orridge and Psychic TV have had on today's music. They have been performing and making music for years and years (I believe Gen is actually the record holder in the Guinness book for most live albums released in a year).. I would recommend checking out some of their other work before dismissing them. I don't know all the details, but this is a true story (more or less).. The album in question is called "Cold Dark Matter". It's not very listenable in my opinion, but still very interesting. Only recommended if you are into way experimental arty stuff. What I would recommend is some of the newer stuff. "Cold Blue Torch" is a great disc.. it's all remixes from another recent album "Trip Reset" (which has some great moments as well.. including a Floyd cover). The majority of their work is not necessarily very accessible, being quite experimental in various ways. However, a fair bit of it is easy to listen to and get into. Personally, while I own a lot of the experimental stuff, I generally prefer the more accessible stuff. Try listening to the material released on Wax Trax in the mid-eighties, or some of the Cleopatra re-releases. They give a taste of how amazing PTV can be, and sufficient encouragement to dig into the rest of their catalog and live material. One thing to consider, Genesis has apparently had some really rough times financially and personally in the past few years, and has apparently done more than a few things of dubious quality simply to raise cash...so you might want to be wary of anything too recent. It was added into the show when LX mixed Patterns & Textures. I agree, that it is a good version, but try playing it along with the album version. It is identical, but LX added samples on top including the rastaman and Steve Hillage with his "gliss" guitar (read the credits for P&T). Now here's the real kicker: what's the difference between "glissando" and "portamento"? My sampler (an Ensoniq ASR-10) has "glissando," but it's only monophonic. Is "portamento" a polyphonic effect? Polyphonic glissando/ portamento is a REALLY cool effect.... By-the-way, to get people off on another thread, I must wonder what peoples' favorite electronic "pedal" effects are? Mine would have to be the phaser and digital delay. Speaking of effects, Ensoniq's latest keyboard, the "Fizmo" (I swear that's the name), has a built-in vocoder--tell me THAT isn't cool!!!
