Steve Osborne, however, is listed along with Oakenfold. Oakenfold names some of his remixes "The Perfecto Mix," but I'm not sure why he does/doesn't. He and Osborn did the "Sexy Dub Mix" of Even Better Than The Real Thing and the "Oakenfold Jeep Mix" of Lemon, as well. And, some of the tracks he released while with Cream (www.cream.co.uk) have a "Perfecto Mix" attached to them, while others don't. I have mixed feelings about Oakenfold, though. The Perfecto mixes of the U2 tracks suck (he replaced Bono's voice with some diva and ruined them all -- well, she's not on the Numb remix, which is OK, but on a promo CD, impossible to find, and outragously expensive ;). The other U2 stuff he did is decent. I didn't like his Oslo CD, but the Global Underground: NYC set is sweet. Basically, I make sure I listen to his CDs before I consider buying them... I felt lucky to get in alive, as there were some 500 people standing outside the sold-out show and maybe 10 seemed to have tickets. Paranoid stoned people kept acting like you had a personal vendetta against them when you did not agree to sell them your ticket. People near me kept rearranging me in line so that the people who didn't have tickets but knew the security people at the door would be a bit more spread out as they tried to get in. LX did the first main set for what felt like 2 hours (although I think it was much shorter than that. Completely lost track of the sense of time). It was pleasantly not quite as packed as later on. LX and the other dj were not announced as Oakenfold was, nor did his name appear in many of the ads; did see quite a few terrarium t-shirts though. Someone near me complained that it didn't sound like Orb albums, but then he didn't even know Paterson's name, so enough said. Orb albums don't even sound like Orb albums. Denver audience was as usual disappointing--any time it got heavily dubby, a few teenagers near me would curl their lips and stop dancing. He stuck his tongue out at us once or twice, so we got what was coming to us. I think everyone got so enthusiastic about Oakenfold because his name was on the ticket. The Oakenfold set was a lot of fun; although if he's the best DJ in the country as someone was saying, this must not extend to LX in UK. More technical maybe, just not as much subtlety to it. The Oakenfold set seemed about twice the volume of the two preceding, and it was kind of amusing when standing still to feel your pantlegs fluttering. A bit more ego there too, I think. No epic stories like Scott's or SteveO. When we arrived in town spent some time scouring the used vinyl bins at Aron's Even found a 12" promo of Killing Joke's "Democracy" with the almost 18 minute Orb mix for a couple of bucks. Parked at the club, had a pint of Bass Ale along with a couple of something's that made us very irie and then we went in. Real nice little club. Too bad they wouldn't give us a ticket stub back for our collections. (I hate when a venue does that!) LX came in shortly after we arrived and went on right at midnight. For the fashion conscious he was wearing a San Jose Clash jersey. A gift from a fan the previous night in the Bay Area? He didn't give us the dub or trance I read about in the previous posts. Yes, that was Way Out West he stuck in there. There was one white label where he played both sides and it was definitely the Orb. I'm assuming its from the new album. The monitor's on stage were placed pretty close to the decks and he almost went over the rail at one point (maybe the good doctor was pretty irie too, hmmmm) so I gave him a push back in the right direction. I had brought an inlay card to get an autograph and we had the herb, but when it was over my friend (who drove) said that we needed to leave or he wouldn't be able to drive if we waited any longer. Had a great time and it was a great crowd, but in the future I'm driving. I moved a couple of times for people taking pictures. Any chance to get some copies (I'll pay for the prints!) "TNT" is great, but "Millions Now Living Will Never Die" was what got me hooked on 'em. The first time I heard it (mainly the song "Djed"), I was immediately reminded of the Orb. I love Trans Am... one place where this sort of "mathrock" is most present is japan. Many of the most respected recording artists there are also technical geniuses and remix gods. Case in point is guitarist Cornelius. He sits in with trans am occasionally. There's also a whole slew of artists to try to copy him. His stuff is not to be missed, especially for you orbies who enjoy the occasional spacey-dance-pop track. Has anyone on the list heard of/listen to Takako Minekawa? Next door is the Raw Bar, a decent Place to get cocktails, and if your Hungry, Seafood. SmartBar i think opens around 8 or so. So It should be easy to meet anyone there if done early enough. I'm not too sure of any other Bars in the area that might be cool though. Ohh wait.. on the North corner of that block is the GingerMan which is a pretty nice place to Stop for a pint or such. But around that time would be filled with a lot of the annoying neigboorhood people. Unfortunately I'm not going to Be in Chicago this Week (or the next 3 months for that matter), so I'm going to Miss LX in my hometown :( , and Miss meeting up with all the Chicago Area Orbies.
