What about writing it to the hard drive as a .wav file through WinAmp? Does that change anything? "Twoism" was originally released on 12" and cassette, is exceptionally hard to find (only 100 copies pressed) and has not been re-released. "Hi Scores" is the EP they did for Skam which was, in fact, re-released recently, on 12" and CD. (It was originally only on 12".) It's been re-released now on Skam on CD as well as 12". "Twoism" is a mini-LP (8 tracks I think?) that the band put out ages ago, even before they signed to Skam. I seem to remember reading in a discography that only 200 or so were pressed. There are one or two tracks from "Twoism" on the "Hi-Scores" EP though, so that could be where the confusion originates. May" Subject: (orb) NYC dj set review Let me be the first (I guess). Okay, never been to the knitting factory before tonight. Galdarn, that was one small venue. Anyways, I arrived around 10:45, devoid of substance (D'ohh!). When I got there some guy was spinning some drum and bass. Pretty good stuff, I didn't like all of it, but excellent DJ skills. I saw the dude do some neat stuff. Then came on DJ Spooky. I've heard him speak a billion times at columbia's music dept, and I've seen him enumerable times before. He was pretty on point, did some sick scratching, and generally stayed away from the obfuscated crap that he sometimes plays (keep that man away from mixers that have any kind of sampling or filtering on them!). Then the main event. I noted alex's turtle tattoo first. Then I noticed that he was the smallest nondescript looking little dude. I don't know what I was expecting, some giant with moons around his head and lightning coming out of his arse or something. :) Anyways, he started the set with some old school trance and that was fun, although people didn'tr seem to be into it as much as the drum and bass from before (this may have been due to my close proximity to the stage, it's possible people farther back or by the bar were digging it more). Being that it was fast, though, I danced. Then he threw down some random old dub (lemme tell you, too, I SWEAT that mixer they had. Pitch control FROM THE MIXER, with no speed distortion. Echo, reverb, U name it!), followed by the Once more song and Plateau remixes everyone'd been raving about. Excellent tracks, BTW. Then he did something that surprised me a lot. He spun jump up. And really well. I mean really well. I'm talking like had I heard this part of the set vs an aphrodite set, I'd have been hard pressed to tell the difference (a lot of the tracks were aphrodite, whom I love to death). He even did the most beautiful mix of some old raggae and that "Don't believe the Hype" track (DJ Hype, Zinc, someone?). I almost jizzed myself. Spooky smoked alex out, which was pretty funny, but herb smoking was not really in effect due (according to my roomate) to the knitting factory's normal policy. After the show, I hung around a while, and got the man to autograph my U.F.Orb 2-cd and my Aubrey Mixes, which was very gracious of him. Very chill little bald dude. Anyhoo, overall, my only complaints were that spooky either was unaware or just plain didn't care that the high end on the main speakers was ear-burstingly loud (ears still ringing folks. A lot), and the fact that not tons of people were dancing, I have no complaints. Awsome music, I finally got to meet the man himself, and I even ran across some listies. Just to let you all know, the cd mastering is complete! this is how the discs have turned out: Disc One: 20 tracks 70:30 1. 2:26 2. 1:21 3. 4:54 4. 5:14 5. 2:17 6. 1:58 7. 4:23 8. 5:09 9. 4:34 10. 6:26 11.2:06 12. 1:13 13. 3:11 14. 3:40 15. 4:00 16.2:35 17. 3:20 18. 3:16 19. 4:19 20. 4:06 Disc Two: 8 tracks 74:13 1-7 11/18/99, 8 8/11/96 1. 4:29 2. 2:42 3. 7:07 4. 4:10 5. 1:53 6. 3:53 7. 6:30 8. 43:27 The 11/18/99 set is excelent, by my opinion. 1-8 is LFC Danny Tenaglia's Detour Mix, 1-19 is "Soul Wars" 2-3 is Plateau, 2-4 is Once more. The rest I don't know. At the quiet points you can hear crowd noise, but it's not obtrusive. The 8/11/96 set sounds like it was sourced from a .raw broadcast and put onto cassette, which I mastered it to cd. The quality isn't good on it, but i filtered out as much noise as I could. Nonetheless, it's DJ LX and it's Chicago, so I stuck it on at the end. I cropped approx. 3 mins of it so it would fit. I'm very happy with the end results and I'm sure you all will be too! Other news : There's a new French charity compilation out on tuesday called "Emmaus". 15 exclusive tracks from French groups and an Orb exclusive track ! Dont know which one, if it's taken from the forthcoming album or another thing. My guess is it's a remix done by the Orb from a Rachid Taha (that Steve Hillage produced) or an FFF track (Andy knows one guy from this band). Stay tuned.
