Stuff like "Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld" and "Chill Out". I may not have been cognizant of that stuff when it came out (I was 8 years old!) but I wish there were more like it. I only got into ambient in the last year but where is trippy stuff like Chill Out? I don't really like the jazzy/dnb ambient type stuff (other than DJ Shadow and Orblivion). I'm kind of disappointed to hear Orb are moving more away from their ABTU roots, but I guess they've gotta move on.... BTW, self-promotion, but I've been doing that kind of trippy ambient alone on www.mp3.com/logickills and I'm doing live "ambiathon"s with my friend as DJ Ubik, doing my music live while my friend plays keyboards. Any ideas? i'm trying to get the school to let us use the gym one night and get some visuals hooked up (I want to play "The Bear," "2001" and computer animation simultaneously). Anybody else still doing this a lot? Anyway, bye. I have two Lustmord albums called "The Monstrous Soul" and "The Place Where The Black Stars Hang" and I like both a lot. I also recommend Mouse On Mars' "Glam" and some stuff by FSOL ("Lifeforms" and their album "Tales of Ephidrina" as Amorphous Androgynous). > I don't really like the jazzy/dnb ambient type stuff (other than DJ > Shadow > and Orblivion). I'm kind of disappointed to hear Orb are moving more > away > from their ABTU roots, but I guess they've gotta move on.... > For me, everything they've done so far is great in its own right. They're just exploring different shades of ambient and they're not strictly bound by genres (who's to define those, anyway?) which is, to my mind, an excellent thing. I have to admit, I like "Orbus" better than any other Orb album but still I'm fascinated with all the ideas, sounds, effects, humour and styles they keep coming up with. > BTW, self-promotion, but I've been doing that kind of trippy ambient > alone > on www.mp3.com/logickills and I'm doing live "ambiathon"s with my > friend as > DJ Ubik, doing my music live while my friend plays keyboards. Anybody else still doing this a lot? > Yeah, I do electronic music, too - largely ambient. I usually program a few patterns and then record the song by switching channels on and off, twisting the knobs on my mixer and sometimes playing guitars in the back (which don't sound like guitars, phew ... ;-)). I'll have to check out your stuff. How about, btw, if we reserve some space on the soon-to-be-up Orblist memberspage (wasn't it going to be called ultraworld.org ?) for the music that listees did themselves? You know, maybe just a short (1 min or so) mp3 file per musician. I think the Orb must be a big influence on everyone actively involved with music on this list so there's definitely an Orb relation here. What do you think, folks? Orb on! Ultraworld.org is up (for the most part) and can be found at: http://www.ultraworld.org/ I don't have as much time on my hands as i did when i first started it, but i plugged away it steadily. as far as music done by the fans, i think that is a fantastic idea -- get with me off the list to arrange ways to get the files to me. eric@gographics.com ) one other note... until i have time to work on a bug in netscape... please use this URL: http://www.users.drak.net/ultraworld to get there if netscape is your choice of browser... it should be an easy fix, but like i said, i haven't been able to give it much time lately. enjoy! eric p.s. send your bios in if you don't see yours listed... there is a search feature on the site so just search for your name to see if you pull up or not. cheers. # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Jan 2000 18:00:24 +0000 From: "Agust 'Nemesis1' Arni Jonsson" Subject: Re: (orb) Trippy ambient of yonder days >That Ambient Guy schrieb: > > > Yeah, where is the "trippy ambient" of yonder days? Just a warning: the Japanese are notorious for announcing release dates and having them slip into oblivion. I can't count the number of times one Japanese store or another has had a new Kraftwerk album on their forthcoming release list, but never does one ever materialize! - -- Lazlo Nibble - lazlo@studio-nibble.com - http://www.studio-nibble.com - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 24/7 music from the Nibble vaults! - http://www.studio-nibble.com/audio -- # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Jan 2000 12:53:57 -0000 From: "Nick King" Subject: (orb) Material (Bill Laswell) Hi, Does anyone out know of a website for Material (Bill Laswell's band)?
