I've never been a big fan or either Biosphere or Higher Intelligence Agency, but I found a CD in the clearance bin of the local HMV that has blown me away...it's been quite a while since I've heard an ambient CD that was I thought was really innovative but this is it. Listen to this description from the liner notes: "Tromso, 70 degrees north, in the Arctic region, in the middle of the most active northern lights zone....Geir Jenssen of Biosphere and Bobby Bird of HIA were commissioned by Nor Concerts to collaborate together on a musical project to take place in Geir's home town of Tromso Norway. The brief was for them to perform 3 concerts, using sounds sourced from the area as the basis of the music--the machinery of the local mountain cable lift, the snow, the ice, etc...the performances from which this recoding is taken, took place on top of a mountain above Tromso, in a cabin reached by the cable car, in which the audience were transported up the mountain in turn." Great stuff, makes me think of Aphex's ambient works vol 1, just to give an idea...Only 5000 of these puppies were ever made. Maybe it'll turn up in YOUR local HMV bargain bin? Also stumbled upon a Yello 2x12" for "Do It" that has some fantastic remixes from Thomas Fehlmann & Sun Electric.... I recently added the magical sounds to my collection -- I had never heard any of Banco de Gaia's stuff before and thought I'd check it out. I actually *was* disappointed, but that's happened with artists before who I later came to like. The best purchase I made recently, however, was "premiers symptomes" by Air -- blew me away and I can't wait to get more however the only decent record store around me has only the one album (which is really just a collection of singles) but I think they're going to carry the new Air album (due out in a few weeks I think). Yet another reason why I look for my cds (not to mention books) online because the availability in Small Town, USA is exactly nil (and without a car is even worse). # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Feb 2000 01:06:10 +0000 From: "Agust 'Nemesis1' Arni Jonsson" Subject: Re: (orb) Thank you!!!
