The first three tracks are my favorites, along with Ralf, Mile long... by far the weakest. Terminus is great too, a nice little recycling of previous orbience. Personally, I can do without the chunky side of the Orb (only left on MLLOL, really)... I prefer this album as a whole more than Orblivion because it sounds much better, it has more breathing room, unlike the thick, chunky soup (didn't we talk of soup a little while back?) of Orblivion. The production values are really superb. There's so much going on, but it all inhabits the listening field extremely well. I'm very, very happy with it. I appreciate your sentiments, but understand that the Tape-beatles engaged in plundering to create their records, and would be perfectly delighted to know that they propagated the material for further plundering by groups like the Orb. Tape-beatles have no interest in copyright or accreditation -- like Negativland, they actively challenge the institution of intellectual property, etc. -- and instead of a "c" their releases come emblazoned with a "p" for "plagiarism". The Orb isn't the only group to utilize Tape-beatles recordings -- David Thrussell springs to mind, and he doesn't credit them either -- but I'm surprised there aren't more that do so. I'm very surprised to read that these tracks > are favoured by so many of you, because they sound far from Orbish to me! But Original Message From: Steve Shah Orblivion probably better prepared us. ;-) The reason why I like the ones with the beats is that it isn't just a rhythm. There are a lot of complex sounds going on with it that make it "Orb" for me. The reason why I didn't care for the first three tracks as much was because of the overuse of vocals. But of course, that's just me... ===>I must agree with Steve as of right this moment. I usually don't go for vocals with my electronic beats. The one exception would be ebtg. To early for me to make a call on this one. Only my second round but its already put a big old smile on my face. Not many people on this list refer to it as being that great.( U.F. Orb seems to be the crowd favorite). But I happen to love it. I think it is by far their best album. I like Occidental- I like every song off that album. Oxbow Lakes is my favorite off there. In fact it's my favorite album... period. It was the first Orb I ever heard. One day I got my check and decided to buy that album on a whim and then I went and bought a sack of mushrooms. We ate those and put the album on repeat. It must have repeated 12 times and I swear I never heard the same album twice. I was transported to another planet by the sounds. I still listen to it all the time and I continually hear new stuff in there. Definitely a classic! It's a good track, but (for me at least) it doesn't have that trademark long swoopy sounds that we all love so much. I'd expect to see this as a live mix of some kind... I'd be curious to hear what none jungle remixes would sound like (assuming there are any). Hmmf. Montage D'our it my favorite song... Pure Genious working there... And everything else on there is great.. Whenever I listen to the album, I had already forgotten what it sounds like, and slowly it all comes back to me, like riding through your home town you haven't seen in 5 years. Slug Dub is great as well.. and Occidental is great too! I just wish I had it with me... I'm so far away from my Orb collection (physically), and won't see it till the end of the week. So Guess What I'm gonna listen to again! >on a whim and then I went and bought a sack of mushrooms. We ate those and >put the album on repeat. Well I remember just buying Pomme Fritz, dropped a couple hits, and popped in this CD at a friends house... I swear we were rolling around on the floor, busting a gut laughing for over an hour with this one.... Are there any special instructions to uploading to the OAA? I'm just curious. I still don't see quite why they didn't add the Ultrabass remixes to the UK version of Perpetual Dawn. I went through quite a lot of trouble tracking down the US version quite a while back. I'd say it's much more worth your trouble to find the US version. I'd throw in my vote as "Perpetual Dawn (Ultrabass II)" as the best track on an Orb single, close second is the Frank De Wulf remix of "Blue Room". Now that's a track :) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo! Just a few quick things rummin' through my mind. Is there any new development with the CD-R tree that was brought up by RBJ? Just wonderin' because with all of the Cydonia uproar I think I may have missed something. And now that I've mentioned Cydonia, I would like to inquire [against my own better judgement] if anyone would be willing to record it and send it to me, I'm sure we could work something out. No time for the internet makes for some nonexistant uploads. If anyone has a problem with this, well....I don't know what to say. Also, I personally love Orbus Terrarum and Occidental. Very Much. > Am I one of the only people that loves "Occidental" off Orbvs Terrarum. > The general concensus I've gotten is that the track absolutely sucks. > God, I absolutely love that track. What else...Hmmm...Oh yes! A friend of a friend that I recently just met told me that the Orb were coming to the NYC area for a 'festival' filled with 'other acts of the same caliber'. Now, I'm not saying he's right or wrong, just that it sounds a little strange seeing as this hasn't appeared here on the list. So, does anyone know anything? I'm pretty sure he's wrong but, I thought I would ask the great Orb mass assembled here...Thanks. Andrew M.
