I balked at the price once before (27 UKP) but was quick to buy at 10 UKP. Don't remember if this was mentioned when it came out, but it has a very Pink Floyd style label. The "headside" has a body (upper torso) coming out of the water arms extended and the "legside" has the bottom portion just entering the water. A surprise for me was having a William Orbit mix on the b-side which I was unaware of. The cat. # is hard to read so used the magnifying glass 12 RW 101 which is different than the discography (Lazlo take note). Also my copy seems to have come from a record pool in the UK and came with an insert which reads: "Rick Wright vs The Orb & William Orbit - Here's another one of those sneaky P.O.P. specials - a limited edition, DJ only gem! Pink Floyd keyboardist Rick Wright, whose solo album Broken China was released on October 7th has recently collaborated with The Orb (our hero's) and William Orbit on several tracks. Here you have two Orb remixes of "Runaway" flipped by William Orbit and Matt Ducasse's reworking of Night of 1000 Furry Toys. Out there, experimental, weird and wonderful? Your opinions are vital." The only date I've heard so far is October 23rd, but I faintly recall release dates for older Orb albums being later than European dates. I don't suppose anything has been said about a tour for the album? Cydonia Review: At first I thought Cydonia was sort of like Orblivion and sprinkled with hints of Pomme Fritz. Originally my favorite song had to be Terminus. That song seems VERY reminiscent to Plateau. Excuse me for saying this but I felt that Once More was a bit poppy, sort of like a new Little Fluffy Clouds. I'm not saying that Little Fluffy Clouds was poppy, but since it was accepted into the pop market, it's regarded that way. This is only an opinion. If you listen closely there are some striking similarities: pretty girl's voice, bassline that moves in fourths, beautiful sounds that develop into the chorus. There are some similarities. Now don't get me wrong, I love Once More. LX might not have done this consciously, or maybe I'm the only one who thinks this is even true! Now its my favorite song on the album! As far as the direction Orb is taking with the album, I'm totally into it. I very much enjoy LX's choice of beats on the album. The beat manipulation on Promis is amazing. Speaking of visuals and MP3s - You guys should check out Windows Media Player 7 - It's skinnable - doesn't stutter like winamp can - and has really great visual plug-ins. Most of the skins are bigger than winamp's skins so it's easier to use and find the buttons on. Not to mention that the skins are all different shapes... no more rectangles. I've seen the skins range from a sphinx/pyramid (with a minimized 'scarab' version) to a zen garden to a funky orange techno thing. http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com will down it for you. The anti-copyright collaborative project known as "The Droplift Project" was released last weekend. The album is a protest against the copyright restrictions on sampling, along with the music industry in general. Through the prank of dropping our independently produced disc of "infringing material" directly into the bins of record stores across the planet, we hope to raise awareness of fair use issues in music, along with exposing some unsuspecting people to the wonderful world of audio collage and the art of the sample. The idea came suddenly. Manufacture our own CDs, go into chain stores, and leave them in the appropriate bins. Witness the confused faces of cashiers and customers alike when the CD does not show up in the inventory. But they'll most likely make the sale, and the CD known only as THE DROPLIFT PROJECT will go home with yet another customer. Mission accomplished. CD Plants, acting on an RIAA mandate to curb piracy, are often not willing to press material that might contain recognizable samples. Even free music venues on the Internet refuse to allow sample-based works. Is it illegal? Depends on who you ask. We know we are protected by the First Amendment and the Fair Use clause of the Copyright Act. Apparently, the music industry has other ideas. Because most of us do not posess the resources to defend our artistic rights in a court of law, we are often silenced by cease-and-desist letters and other legal threats. These tactics amount to censorship of an entire artform. This oppressive resistance to the creative reuse of material has really got us in a bind. Our only recourse was to manufacture and distribute this free public domain "copyright infringement compilation" that calls attention to this issue of sampling in music. So here it is! Listen to it! We're not doing this for our health. This is a deliberate attempt not only for our talents to be heard, but to encourage some discussion about artists' use of sound samples in their work. Unfortunately, Bedouin is really similar to the album version and Toxygene is a standard live version ("bye bye see you later" "technical difficulties, please stand by..."). Other news : I finally bought Tape Beatles " Music with sound" CD. It's an essential purchase if you want to be LX for a day. When I listen to this, I'm extremely disappointed by the LX skills not as a DJ (his sets are interesting; I'm gonna see him spinning tomorrow at London Web Cafe), but as a sample finder. He used tracks of this record in their entirety, with little or no distortion, in UFOrb, Live 93, his Mixmag DJ sets, etc... I was disappointed at the last concerts that LX hadn't got any new samples. He seems to use 20-30 samples to put on the music Andy mixed, and he doesn't seem to search any new ones. It is not hard work, IMHO, compared to what did Andy, mixing the music live. Of course, LX contributes to the tracks on studio a lot (I assume), but in a live set, he's just a DJ.
