They had a good thing going though they needed some practice but when they got there $$$ they didnt care about the music, they just made $$$ until they where fed up with each other, (didnt take long, an album and a single.) My band was heartbroken that a crap band got signed because they had a singer who sounded like Eddie Veder and we had not. It was a being in disguise. We created our own label and put out a few 7" and 12" as well as produced others music. We parted on good terms and I always think of how much fun I had with Your Mother. LX may have the same shit as Prince had, and thats sad. But you can get what you want from the big boys without compromising your morals, just look at Matt Groening. He has Fox rapped around his finger cuz he knows that if they loose the Simpsons they will be in a world of hurt and any other station would pay big bucks to have them. I've only heard Rebirth (as mp3s) and I *love* it. great great stuff... I'm trying to get the cd now (waiting for a reply from some guy in NY)... 'Rebirth' is definitely their best album, but it's also the easiest one to listen to. FYI, the 'Third Whale Trip' track is on it, written in collaboration with The Orb (LX & Kris, iirc). I can really recommend this album! Here's a small review I found on the net: "Rebirth is an electronica trip that goes from ambient to dance to dub. Fantastic sounds and environments are played out with aquatic themes that include a creaking boat, ocean and whales. Anna Homler is responsible for the evocative vocals - she constructs words+sounds with her voice that are reminiscent of language, but not quite. Sounds like japanese then sounds like english then .... Church bells ring in the beginning then goes into a children's choir singing the 'Ave Maria' on the track titled 'the enlightenment'. 'The transformation' is the perfect title for a nearly 22 minute song that continually changes from ambient squeals into a big-dub finish. Rebirth was put out on North South and included a cds with two remixes of 'ya yae ya yo yo yo' and two other remixed versions of the tracks 'return journey' and 'rebirth' from the cd. Also: Thrash and Alex Patterson from 'the orb' fame assisted with the production of some of this music." In general, the albums become weirder as you go back in time. 'Silver Bowl Transmission' has some of the 'Rebirth' atmosphere, and there are some beautiful tracks on it, like The Spirit & The Signal, which is probably my favourite VoK track. As a whole it's slightly less impressive compared to 'Rebirth', but that still means it's a great album! Before that they made 'Peninsular Enclosure' which is like 'music made a million years ago..'. Analogue ambient. This is what other people say about it: "Voices Of Kwahn is low-fi atmospheric minimalist music from the Pylon King and American performance vocalist Anna Holmer. Peninsular enclosure was recorded in various locations on dictaphones sounding bleak and hypnotic. ...has the textural pleasures of Can at their most obscure. (Melody Maker) Transglobal Underground with a wretched bitch of a hangover. (Venue) Moody, meditative, but strangely addictive, this is easy listening from people clearly a few faders short of a sound desk. (Vox) This album is so off the wall that it shoots off on a planet sized tangent and somehow comes around again at more or less the right place. (Select)" Believe me, it's like nothing you've ever heard before. The album before PI, called 'Operation Dismantled Sun' is very minimal, with strange sound collages...nothing much going on actually...maybe for freaks only. Sorry for this off-topic post, but I figured that this would be the best place to ask this question: My wife and I were thinking about purchasing a computer. (The one I currently use is at work.) Anyway, what *I* would like to use it for is music, that is, recording music. Currently I have an Ensoniq ASR-10 (a sampler), which is a pretty neat piece of equipment. What really makes it cool is the fact that external devices (e.g., guitars, etc.) can be plugged through the sampler's on-oboard effects processor, which is pretty hard-core. But when I want to actually record the music, I've used a four-track analog tape deck (which is very limiting). It is my understanding that a computer can essentially be turned into a mult-track digital recorder. If this is the case, can anyone tell me a.) what hardware specifications are needed (I'm getting a PC, not a MAC, so please keep that in mind), and b.) what software would be required? This is not just going to be MIDI data, but rather, real-time external instruments as well.... (Also, price-ranges of software would be appreciated. Also, I am in the U.S., so I would need software that is available in North America.) Thanks! Okay, I see what you're saying, and I personally think it would degrade my music (though, considering it's MY music, I wonder how it could get worse?) to have it in a corporate ad since I personally hate all corporations (especially Disney and NIKE and car companies!) and think that it would be pretty low to sell my music (of course, they wouldn't want it anyway :) ) to them, BUT.... LX and company never said that they stood for anything like that-they never put "fight corporations" in their liner notes. They never said "fight the WTO" in an interview or appeared at a big rally like that. I think if they HAD said that and had the VW commercial, then it would be horrific and make me wanna to burn my Orb collexion (which I wouldn't do). But they have never laid claim to that type of anti-corporate "integrity" and so are compromising nothing by having their song appear in the ad. I feel more annoyed at Moby selling out songs from Play to absolutely everything despite his vegan, green, anti-corporate rhetoric and then selling out to pretty much everyone except tobacco/beer companies! My enjoyment of the album has gone way done. And Moby, after proclaiming his Christian, vegan, drug free stance, proudly boasts in recent interviews of doing shrooms and sleeping around on his tour.... I don't look for heroes in the music or entertainment world, but when somebody proclaims their values like that and that goes back on it, it's annoying--- I don't care if Moby does shrooms too much, but when he announces his anti drug stance and THEN does it, it's very annoying.
