They had an LP some years ago on Apollo called /Reasons To Sway/, which I rant about frequently, as well as a newer double-LP called /Abeyance/ which is currently at the top of my 'heavy rotation' list. It fits somewhere between the bubbly wibble-wobbles of Higher Intelligence Agency, the chilly fidelities of Biosphere, and the crazed sonic injections of Orb or FSOL, with punchy but abstract rhythmic work. Genius, IMO, and extremely trippy. You might still be able to order /Abeyance/ from Beatservice. Some friends of mine and myself are putting on a small ambient gathering, an "ambient rave" if you will (an oxymoron, I'm sure) within the LA area in the next couple of weeks. Date and location are not utterly set, but I'm just giving an open invitation to everybody here, anybody who likes ambient music... This will be the first "party" of this kind I've put on, so don't come with TOO many expectations. Basically, there's just no scene for the kind of music I really like here, so this is an attempt to start one up. It'll basically be ambient music in a somewhat remote/odd location, with no preconcieved notions of what to do there... I'm not promising anything, but I'd love it if anybody wanted to come within the LA area. It'll either be a Friday or Saturday night, from around 6 to around midnite. In all probability it'll be this weekend. Music to be played will be music that fits the overall vibe, not necessarily being beatless. Don't expect too much dance music, though. We'll probably play a lot of happy music, a lot of scary music, and as one of the DJs I'll probably drop in a lot of strange samples and some of my own homebrewed tunes. There will definitely be some Orb, some KLF, some Aphex, some Boards of Canada, Steve Roach, etc. Feel free to bring some of your music to play there. It will be eclectic at least. Anyway, just letting anyone who's interested know, please drop me a line if you plan to come or have any suggestions/ideas. This will be a free, drug-free event held by some people who like music, basically. If you care, tell me...
