Yes, the sample comes from there; this is why all the writers on Slave to the Rhythm (Trevor Horn, Steve Lipson and Bruce Wooley come to mind, but there may be a couple more) have co-writing credits on AHEGB. Since the album itself is sort of a theme-and-variation, one-long-remix-of-the-same-song sort of affair, various instrumental and vocal bits are repeated throughout, but I'm pretty sure the Orb-sampled choral passages are mostly (or strictly) found on the title track (also on the "Blooded" remix of the title track by Horn). With or without the Orb samples, and Grace's strictly average vocal performance and trite lyrics aside, it comes with my highest recommendation, as does just about anything Trevor Horn's produced. You won't be disappointed. It, like 90125, Lexicon of Love, Welcome to the Pleasuredome, et.al., still sounds way ahead of its time. The version on the Mixmag disc is listed as the "orb mix", so you may not be able to find it anywhere else. You can see what they look like in the images section of TheOrb.com, although the scans are muddy; the originals are much brighter: http://www.theorb.com/archives/images/orb019.jpg http://www.theorb.com/archives/images/orb020.jpg The prints are neat, but not particularly fabulous. If I had a sealed vinyl-pack copy of U.F.Orb, I wouldn't open it, but I'm a freak, so YMMV (and I have opened copies of the aqua and black versions). (I believe there is also a blue-envelope version; does anyone have any U.F.Orb vinyl-envelopes that aren't black or aqua?) Mine is a really dark blue.... unfortunately, the prints were not included as I got a used copy. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com # Need help using (or leaving) this mailing list? # Send the command "info orb" to majordomo@lists.xmission.com. # To post, email orb@lists.xmission.com; replies go to original sender. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Jan 2001 20:27:47 -0000 From: Matt.Skinner@skanska.co.uk Subject: RE: (orb) ltd edition art prints The Black one just has the LP on two 12"s with prints. I view it as more of a long-term resource. I don't really care about the details on the newest releases (I have them, or will have them shortly, or they'll be in there by the time I need them), but I do need the details on the older material, as I try to track them down, or figure out what I just bought. Have you seen the number of discographies that Lazlo maintains? Even though half of the groups represented are dead, there is still new finds being made for most of them on a regular basis. Heck, in the past few months (among a bunch of other stuff) I've turned up Canadian and Spanish editions of U.F.Orb, released up to 8 years ago, that never made it into the discography. Imagine the burden for a "popular" band, like say, Erasure or the Pet Shop Boys, that releases lots of records all over the world. Doing "regular" updates of them all would be a serious pain in the ass, and would be nearly impossible to do if one chooses to have anything approaching a life. :) Like it or not, for most of the groups represented, Lazlo's discographies are still the most complete and thorough available, even if they are a touch out of date. They are an invaluable resource. Ever notice how many other "good" discographies give a mention to Lazlo as a source and/or inspiration? > There are 3 promo 12"s all with different track listings. > 1 promo cd single > 1 promo lp which has NEW tracks on and different mixes of existing tracks > on. > > And I think a couple of remixes of other peoples tracks. > > I'd be proud of that. Yeah, and I've sent him probably 20 new entries in the past year, and have another 15 or so that I need to get around to typing up...they'll all make it in there eventually. Perhaps a worthy project for someone would be to maintain some sort of web-addendum for Lazlo's discography, with all of the stuff that has been released or turned up since the last update. It could be purged after the "master" discography is updated.
