It's a 12" on Blue Room Released [UK] titled "Nitrogen Pt. 1 & 2". So I picked it up. It certainly does have that Orbish sound to it. I know that LX worked with Juno on the last album as well as the tour we saw, but I hadn't picked up any of Juno's material yet. Since the discography hasn't been updated yet, maybe somebody could help with some info on this release. I don't remember anything being mentioned here previously. The Lisa Stansfield 12" and Spectre 12" have come my way in recent weeks. Long time finding these. Sunday came across a 12" of "Bellbottoms" by Jon Spencer Blues Explosion on Matador. (OLE-111-1) Thought it was only on a 1995 album so it was a great find. Passed on the info to Lazlo. Regarding the "Eternity: Project One" album. Does anyone have or has anyone seen this album. I just get blank stares when I ask about it. I haven't even heard of anyone getting a CD-R on this one. I'd like to hear some reviews of it. Last question goes to our UK brothers/sisters. What is the scene in the UK with finding used CD's and vinyl? Lots of shops?, easy/hard to find?, give us the lowdown. It is extremely OOP. It generally goes for well over $50 when it shows up on eBay, which is not very often. Finding a used copy in a shop, particularly in the US, would be very unlikely. It isn't very compelling musically (largely late 80's cheesy pop-techno), but is an essential document of it's time if you are at all into the people represented...LX, Youth, Jimmy Cauty, and Thrash, just to name the more obvious ones. Visible spectrum wavelengths measure from 700nm for red to 400nm for violet. Using the speed of light as the velocity (3x10^8 m/s for our purposes here) and the handy dandy formula of freq=velocity/wavelength gives frequencies of 4.286 x 10^10 Hz (red light) and 7.500 x 10^10 Hz (blue light). The range of the values is 3.214 x 10^10 Hz. Human sound spectrum measures from 20 Hz to 20000 Hz. (But what we’ll do is increase this spectrum range because we’re shifting sound frequencies to visible spectrum frequencies and we’ll want to be able to visualize outside our audible hearing range). A 10Hz tone would be pure red. At the top of the range a 25000Hz tone (or however high you want to set the limit) will correspond to pure violet. So while listening to a 10 Hz sine wave, you will not hear 10Hz but you may feel a 10Hz vibration and you may visualize the corresponding the 700nm wavelength light. A pure red. Using the ranges of the visible and the audio frequency spectrums above, for every 1 Hz change in sound frequency there will be a 1.286 x 10^10 Hz change in visible frequency, which corresponds to a .0002 nm change in wavelength for every 1Hz change in sound frequency. But this is just to map sound waves to visible spectrum. Frequency shifting could go reverse to try and hear what we see. Or hear what we don’t see. Or see what we don’t hear (as I described above). For example we could try to hear/see what gamma ray bursts actually sound/look like when shifted. We could produce an image/sound texture of any signal being detected… gamma ray bursts. Maybe using 21cm H radiation as a standard for frequency shifting. And even more interesting is the onset of 5.1 digital sound. With this one could create a surround sound/visual environment. Blues and violets flashing from the right when you hear the high-pitched sounds coming from that location in the sound environment. Mapping the image of sound in a 3D environment and then using that to create the corresponding light frequencies and their sources in the x,y,z coordinate plane. For musical purposes these frequency shifts can be done at the multitracking stage so that each track or layer of music can correspond its specific frequency range for shifting. When sequencing analog synthesizers one can layer and multitrack each piece that makes up the overall sound collage. One track may emphasize lower frequencies and one may have sparkling highs. Shifting them as separate sound sources to separate visual outputs and then overlaying the resulting the visual outputs will have better clarity, resolution and frequency mapping than doing a frequency shifting of the overall mix. Also interesting is the use of MIDI commands to change functions of the frequency shifting. For example a synth lx uses has a low pass filter cutoff as well as a resonance which adds emphasis to the filter cutoff frequency. Used together they create a very interesting sweeping sound. There is also a Low Frequency Oscillator that can control various modulations such as pitch, amplitude (volume), and frequency. Altering the LFO speed and the LFO frequency modulates the rate of change of the modulator being controlled. I'm still thinking of getting one of these to play with ... they look like lots of fun. I have too much work to do to carefully go through your post right now, but I promise to read through it later and let you know what I think. I can already see the possibility for a simple computer program to scan incoming frequencies and produce the appropriate color washes. This would be similar to those computerized oscilloscope eye-candy toys that have been around for some years, but instead this would be entirely abused by lighting. This means doing a "cd Orb" takes you to c:\music\Orb or something like that. The mirroring tool I used needed to use absolute references so that it wouldn't get confused. Thus the %3A (':'), etc. As for site availability -- it's going to be tempremental for the next few days. All of your different machines, different browsers, and different locations (and different scans...) are provoking bugs that we hadn't seen before in a lab environment. This is good. I'm also doing nasty things from my desk so as to provoke boundry cases. All in all, don't expect a reliable connection for a few more days. Often the box stays long enough that a person with a T1 or DSL should be able to grab a few 50M files before the site freezes due to some other (often unrelated to the simple downloads) problem.
