From: Emily--with a "y" Subject: Re: [roswell] end of the world..... Date: 01 Nov 2000 12:07:02 -0800 (PST) Okay, yeah, no more Max & Liz, boohoo... But did anyone notice that ISABEL WAS NOT IN THE EPISODE AT ALL!?!?!? I mean, she was in the Crashdown with Michael for five seconds, but she didn't even *say* anything, so that doesn't count! That was the saddest part about the episode. Mind you, I was crying right there with all of you when Max asked Liz to help him fall out of love with her and everything, but no Isabel is just infititely worse. Please, someone tell me you feel my pain. Isabel in no way deserves to be left out of any episode! It's completely unfair. If I were Katherine, I would throw a fit and make the writers put me in somewhere, but she's probably too professional for that. But come on! The whole Max and Liz have no chance thing was bad enough, but they had to make it even worse for me by leaving Isabel out of the episode completely. It's interesting to see how the relationships are progressing along. I think we were all getting a little concerned that we weren't going to see anything about the relationships again. (And some of you may even be more concerned with the new results!) As you know, I was a little worried about this episode after seeing the previews. But this Katims-written episode gave us a bit of what we had seen from the first episode (Liz going to Kyle, for instance), while still keeping that heavy sci-fi going on. I had asked for more of the relationship stuff earlier, with a bit of the fast-paced sci-fi stuff, but instead, got a large heaping plate-full of relationship with a huge slab of sci-fi slopped right in the middle of it. For many of us, it may have been too much to digest. Anyhoo, I watched this episode with someone else, and had to explain that future-Max ceased to exist, and did not return to the future. I guess you could say what he would have become died, and that certainly was a tear-jerking moment to a die-hard Behr fan. Time had been altered, and now Liz and Max will no longer be together -- and they're wedding, they're romance, and everything they once experienced is gone forever. Apparently dire consequences will ensue should not the Royal Four remain a close unit, but it wasn't fully understood why Max HAD to fall out of love with Liz, rather than just ensuring Tess is part of the gang. (Of course, should things 'get better' for the pod squad, I can imagine Liz admitting that Kyle and her in bed was staged, and there's still a way for them to get back together.) Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this episode, despite the fact that it can be very heartbreaking to watch. The plot line held together quite well, and this was one of the larger things that concerned me about this season at first. It also had some pretty funny moments to off-set the gut-wrenching ending. As long as the episodes keep getting better like this, and if the news regarding the full season renewal is true, I think we have a lot to look forward to. I think the last two episodes' storylines and execution was much better, and much more coherent. I also liked the fact that it didn't have the odd 'ha-ha-ha' goofy ending, as they apparently were trying to make it feel more like a 'teenage' show in the first couple of episodes. I almost did not notice Katherine's absence in this episode, except for that one snippet of her laughing with Michael. But I suppose since she had an 'Isabel episode,' she took some time off. Looks like Liz may not have a big part in next week's episode(?). I had wondered what in the world they were going to do with Kyle this season, but I'm really liking how he and Tess are being squeezed back into the show, when they've remained so much in the background in the past. While we thought Kyle and Tess might hook up, now it looks as though it'll be Tess/Max, Kyle/Liz, Alex/Maria(?) and Michael/Isabel(?). Seems the writers are pretty stuck on this destiny thing... I wonder why they didn't play Gomez's flagship song, "So you want to spin the world around" instead of Cheryl Crow at the end? Then again, they could have played Max's serenading. :) Technical difficulties: I noticed someone on a different list mentioned that time travel isn't possible, and while it isn't currently possible for, well, humans, there is no law in relative physics that does not allow for time travel. However, it would take the power of something greater than our own Sun to produce the energy requirement, and the current theory presented in quantum physics also allows for it, but the time traveler would end up in an *alternate* reality, and could not affect our own timeline regardless of what he does in the alternate reality. Assuming one could build such a machine to make this happen, and presuming the time traveler could actually specify which reality to go to (that would be the closest match of his own reality and timeline), etc., there aren't any known laws that state that Max encountering himself in the past of an alternate reality would destroy each other (that I know of, at least). Star Trek also tends to suffer from these types of technical difficulties, such as the 'beam me up Scotty' routine. Breaking down the particles of anything even as small as a human body would cause a nuclear reaction that would blow a small chuck of the United States to kingdom come, for instance. But of course, it's just science fiction. :) Anyway, I'd give it a 4.5 stars out of 5. Well, i guess i felt it was really just THAT PARTICULAR future is gone, well, really never even happened. that isn't to say that max & liz don't get together, don't get married. just not like it had been THAT time. they could still get togther, but since the circumstances would be different, that future max still wouldn't exist, but a different one could. one where max & liz can be together and it's okay, so he wouldn't need to go back in time and change it. whew. does that make sense? Apparently > dire consequences will ensue should not the Royal Four remain a close unit, > but it wasn't fully understood why Max HAD to fall out of love with Liz, > rather than just ensuring Tess is part of the gang. (Of course, should > things 'get better' for the pod squad, I can imagine Liz admitting that Kyle > and her in bed was staged, and there's still a way for them to get back > together.) but even so, liz hurt max so badly. to get that image out - even if it was a staged image - out of his head, will be so hard...... > I had wondered what in the world they were going to do with Kyle this > season, but I'm really liking how he and Tess are being squeezed back into > the show, when they've remained so much in the background in the past. The first time I watched it though, I had such an extreme feeling of loss. The second time I watched it, I cried. Max and Liz are my primary reason I even started watching Roswell and I cannot believe they will no longer "feel" anything for each other. Somehow, I think Max will learn of Liz's deception and carry the torch for her forever - this is also part hope and belief in true love will find a way. I think I saw that the "whole" gang will be at the funeral for Whitaker next week. It really looks kind of scary - with Whitaker as a shell in the casket and all. I think the progression of the second season has been wonderful. That might be an adult's opinion, but I believe it is moving along very, very well. I like the variety. I was not really overly concerned about not seeing Isabel in the episode - it was a Max/Liz story - I hope Maria gets a little stronger - she is coming off a little too emotional or something - but the thought of her and Alex seems kind of odd. I see Alex with Liz before I see Alex with Maria. Maybe Alex is being protective because he was hurt when he learned from the fortune teller he would never be more than friends with Isabel and hated seeing his friend hurt from her relationship with Michael. Kind of a weird diagnosis, but you get what I mean, don't you? Well - enough of the rambling. Just read the show has been picked up for a full season!!! How could they not, may I ask????? Date: 19 Nov 2000 20:55:18 -0600 Hey all, sorry no posts from me recently, but at least you didn't have to read all my depraved thoughts. ;-) Seriously, I guess I found it hard to say much about 'The Harvest' -- I'm going to have to put this one in one of the weaker episode categories. I enjoyed it, mind you, but it didn't keep my attention. But 'Wipe Out' managed to continue the heavy sci-fi trend and keep it interesting. I still miss the 'my so-called life' writing style, and really value it any time it is re-introduced. I wasn't expecting to see Nicolas (sp?) and his cronies in this one, as I thought they were as 'good as dead' in the Harvest? Interesting how they've used the Nicolas character differently from the books. ('The Wild One', I think it was.) Although I couldn't see Isabel falling for the TV Nicolas. As far as the skins disintegrating only in other alien's hands -- and Liz -- that is an interesting observation. She also seems to be the only one that gets the flashes as well. Kyle also stated that he did not see anything when being healed by Max. So what makes Liz so special? Personally, I'd give Harvest a 2 out of 5 stars, and Wipe Out 3 out of 5 stars. Comments? Date: 20 Nov 2000 08:08:36 -0800 (PST) > > Personally, I'd give Harvest a 2 out of 5 stars, and > Wipe Out 3 out of 5 > stars. Comments? Hey Mike, I was wondering where you'd been! I might be in the minority here, but Wipe Out had some seriously bad sf going on, plus some bizarre dialogue. That being said, because it's Roswell, I could suspend disbelief for the hour needed and still had a good time with the episode. I particularly enjoyed how this episode featured all the female characters in roles other than traditional arm candy. With all the talk of the young bride and the bethrothed, I was beginning to think that the women were there to simply be attractive and gaze adoringly. But that scene in the bathroom with Courtney--I haven't seen a more effective interrogation team in a long time. Contrast that scene with Max and Michael pacing around on the balcony snarling at each other, which doesn't exactly get the job done. (In fact, the only males who were truly effective were Nikolas in his evil teenager role and Kyle who had me crying from laughter.) The women just simply took care of business, and the cheesy Firestarter imagery aside, I am a big fan of Tess now. From the moment she walked through the back door of the Crashdown, she had herself in control and indispensible. Anyway, that was I enjoyed from WipeOut. I hope we see episodes that give everybody more active, capable roles. I hate to see either the girls or the guys relegated to stereotypical, silly roles. Hey there! > I might be in the minority here, but Wipe Out had some > seriously bad sf going on, plus some bizarre dialogue. What about Meet the Dups? I'm not too sure about this episode. I think the jury is still out on this one, for me. I had problems understanding whether or not this parallel-universe gang was really the other 4, and what in the world they were saying, and it was just too bizarre for me. ('Word?') The only thing I recall that seemed nice, was the Maria/Brody relationship. But if things go the way they have been this season, that'll be long forgotten in the next episode or two. > Contrast that scene with Max and Michael > pacing around on the balcony snarling at each other, > which doesn't exactly get the job done. That's another pet peeve of mine, particularly this season. How can the audience get involved in the characters -- that are supposed to be at war and always on the run -- if those 4 main characters are not as close as they can possibly be? In other words, too much internal dissent and division. I hope the killing alternate-Max was not an omen of the future. I noticed what you did too, starting with Skin And Bones -- why are Isabel and Tess always bra-less and/or used as male bait? Oh well. Anyone know the synopsis for the next episode? Then there was one set put one side of the country and one set on the other. Like when the NY royal four killed the #2 max because he would not go to the meeting. So They went to get the other max to see if he would be any different. They were hoping if he was then they could return to their home planet. (Meet the Dups) Date: 22 Nov 2000 09:10:03 -0600 In response to Laura, Liz -- Out of character, hello, I'm totally with you. This is getting retarded. The writers need to, at least, let someone on the show figure something out. Are they all that dense?!!!?? Max has a lot on his mind, but we all know that he should pursue Liz's knowledge of the granolith. He never quit pursuing Liz before. A bone, please?!??!? And...the car scene from WO, Liz needs to tell Max and as Laura stated, blah, blah, blah. Obviously, the point went mute. I saw the preview where everyone finds out about Liz and Kyle's illeged romp. Maybe the writers will help Max and Maria GET SMART. Again, just a bone of hope would be good. Max (Zan) -- not wanting to go to the summit...please clue me in also. The four dupes -- Perhaps they took the bus?? Concorde? Taxi? Go cart? And parents/guardians? Yes, the general public loves to watch little kids wander around town, ALONE! Plus, dupe Michael's NY accent, where was it? The leadership -- sort of wondered about that myself. For example, Michael's hair seems to be the current joke, but did anyone notice future-Max's whole head? I mean, are we talking biker planet or what? Max in the big apple -- OK, I'll entertain the crew for a mere second. Max has had some serious blows, so I'm sure he's thinking, "I'm going to another freak show, because the current one I'm in just isn't working." For example, Liz betrayed him, sort of. Maria told him to back off from the only person he's ever truly loved. Michael doesn't listen to anyone. And...Max was beat to shreds by his non-sister. And Tess, well, don't get me started. So, I don't blame him too much. I'd get the heck out of dodge too. But, what happened to, "We all have to stay together? We're stronger as four." ????? Overall, I give the ep a five out of ten. I think that there are too many unanswered questions and that's not always bad. But, I think that the dupes might constitute another series or show. Personally, I'll stick with the current one at hand. The season, well, the writers are doing a great job, despite my opinion of the dupes ep. You guys bring up some great questions, especially about the NYFour--who brought them there, why, how were they raised, etc? I am hoping those will be answered in the next episode, since this was a TBC. As far as Zan not wanting to go to the summit. Honestly, I think it's because, like Max, he was happy with his life as is. The summit would force a change that he didn't want. I mean, let's look at it from the other side for a second: if Max and the others knew there was another set, and that set could save the planet, don't you think Isabel and Max might have been content to say, "Oh hey, great, then I can have my normal Leave It To Beaver life back"? I think Max would jump at the chance because he has NOT been happy about all this destiny, save the world, hoopla. Chantel __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! (Meet the Dups) Date: 23 Nov 2000 09:45:43 -0600 On the message problem - I am also not receiving all the messages, but then I thought maybe all the people who have been making comments in the past may not be now, so I kind of just wait for messages to pop up when they may. Yes, I agree the there are many unanswered questions, but I still enjoy every new minute of the second season. I am in love with the characters - yes, they are all good looking actors, but I fell in love with the show and its beautiful story (love and sci-fi). The actors on the show have brought the characters to life, its great to watch and learn about it all. (sorry, I started to ramble here . . . ) Okay - I want to ask if anybody is wondering about Liz's character? I want to somehow believe that Grandma Claudia had an encounter with the original surviving aliens from the crash. They entrusted her with saving another half human/alien baby because they saw she (Grandma Claudia) was open and intelligent and would help the aliens to survive. Liz has so many of the same traits as Max and they send each other visions when they connect - none of the others do, which I find kind of weird. Did Max have a true love (Liz?) on his home planet? Was his bride to be (Tess) an arranged marriage? My mind is going in all kinds of story lines. I just hope the writers will take the story to new heights. One thing I thought was funny was when Tess met her dupe - they did not communicate with each other like the others. I wish Max could have met Zan - and by the way - what happened with Zan's body? Could they have healed it with the stones? Is the body still in New York? Oh, yeah - why did Tess put a "Z" on the wall in her room? Did she already know about Zan? Did Nasedo take her to meet the second group of podsters in New York at one point? Hey there! Yes, I've noticed that too for a little while now. Some of the messages will drag in long after they were posted, and get sent to half the list, but not to the others. I only started noticing since I get both the digest, and the regular messages. All the messages would be in the digest. So I'll look into getting that fixed for us! > -Liz -- she is being so out of character and it is driving me nuts. i > mean - last week - in the car as they were driving out of town to the > billboard - she starts freaking out with the "i have to tell max > what really happened!" To me, the whole show has been out of character, and they've been having too many of these 'gimmicky' episodes. Of course, I realize once they go (went) full-blown sci-fi, it shouldn't be considered gimmicky anymore, but still... Regarding Liz, yes, I imagine she's going to break down pretty quick and tell Max all, and ruin the future [once again]. > and then not tellinh her best friend about Kyle, or about > Micheal kissing her? come on - that is just too > off You're right, this makes absolutely no sense at all. Again, I think the main characters are not close enough for the audience to get involved with them. It was always a bit strained in the first season, but there has been no growth in this area. If this were Seinfeld (a bunch of dysfunctional friends that the audience can relate to), that'd be one thing, but this is supposed to be a close-knit team that are in danger at all times, because of who they are and/or their knowledge. So that'd be my main complaint at the moment. > - What was the reason Max #2 didn't want to go to the summit > anyway? did i miss it or didn't they say? I don't think they ever said, but like our Michael and Max, apparently alternate-Michael and -Max cannot get along. > -how did the four of the other aliens get to new york? they - as 7 year > olds - what? walked there? This is problem #2 with Roswell this season: too little establishing information and exposition. Yes, we did know about the other 4 pods, but, at least for me, not enough time to bring the audience up to speed on this. Plus, it's a big shocker to see their alters. (Plus, were they raised by a bunch of hyenas, or are all New Yorkers like this? I didn't think so!) In concept, it wasn't a bad story, but it leads me to believe that our gang -- that we like to watch -- has some pretty 'defective' problems, if the alternates are representative of the rest of their own personalities. > and why wouldn't nacedo have had them ( the #2's) too? he couldn't find > Max, Iz, or Michael, until recently -- but leaders from another > planet were able to find the other four? and invite them to a summit? and > how did the #2's know about Maz, etc? Well, I don't believe the whole summit thing one iota. I think it's just a ploy to destroy the 'rest of' Max, for whatever reason. Perhaps it's so that Michael/Wrath can be the new leader of the planet. Beats me. But I am hoping they do explain that some other Nasedo took care of this other four. (Unless he was also killed by the Royal Four #2). > -but that brings me to - Nikolas last week said , to max " you decided the > fate of armies with a flip of a coin" - was he serious? and if yes, then > what kind of leader was he? i am starting to have some serious questions > about the people on their home world. don't sound like a very great bunch > at all......... Exactly; how are we supposed to root for our pod squad, if what they really are, aren't worth saving? I don't think the show is in such a position, and hasn't built themselves to such a position, for us to see them as souls needing redemption in human form. > okay those are my first reactions - any comments? ideas? i think i better > go and watch it again....... I think I will too. It's a harder episode to watch. It's one thing to have a two-parter, but I hope it's not going to be a bad two-parter. But I guess every season is entitled to it's weaker episodes (such as Heat Wave, from last season, or even Sexual Healing.) But am I curious; which episode do you feel is the best this season? (Meet the Dups) Date: 26 Nov 2000 12:15:21 -0800 (PST) How can you people even compare "Meet the Dupes" to "Heat Wave"?! "Meet the Dupes" was so BAD, and "Heat Wave" was so GOOD!--it's my all-time favorite episode of any tv show every! 'Sides, lots of important stuff happened in "Heat Wave"--Liz told Alex about the aliens; Max and Liz finally kissed; Isabel found out that Alex was in love with her. So you can't even say that "Meet the Dupes" was like "Heat Wave." "Meet the Dupes" made absolutely no sense. Fake Michael and Fake Isabel killed Fake Max, and then they played with Real Max's head! I hate them! Plus, like everyone, I have to ask, "HOW THE HELL DID THEY GET TO NEW YORK?!" Cuz they crash-landed in New Mexico, and New York is on the other side of the country... But anyway, I felt kinda bad for Fake Tess. I like her more than Real Tess. I wonder what the hell she's gonna do in Roswell--die her hair blond and pretend to be Real Tess? My thoughts on why Xan didn't wanna go to the summit: hello! They're not the real Royal Four! The Roswellians are, and Xan knew it, but he didn't wanna tell Rath and piss him off. That's my theory anyways... Okay, I really, really hate Lani. I mean, what a bitch! The bonding with Isabel over the Volandra problem was nice at the beginning, but then she went and fucked up Max and Isabel's whole relationship just to get what she wanted. However, I did have to go "Right on!" when she called Max a "self-centered, self-indulgent little boy," because that is what he's been acting like all season. As a story-line, the episode blows, but it was rather amusing. My favorite part was when Liz did her little "winter-fresh" dance after Fake Michael kissed her. That was too good! Okay, one more thing--Brody and Maria? He seems a little old for her, but it's cute. At least he wouldn't be an ass to her like Michael is. But then again, when Rath offered to kill Brody, and Michael said he'd get back to him, it kinda showed that he does care about Maria. But who cares? I never liked Michael anyway. So that's it from this girl. Later days, Czechoslovakians. == ~Emily (but then you probably knew that...) "Some people are just pigs."~Liz Parker... I didn't get that actually, but I'm not sure what I DID get out of it. Part of me would like Max to stop obsessing about it, and I'm sure Liz would too. For their eventual (I'm convinced) reconciliation, there has to be a point in which Max decides that it ultimately doesn't matter if Liz did or did not sleep with Kyle. He had her on such an impossible pedestal, and now she's fallen. And sometimes that's necessary before a real relationship, one that knows each others faults and flaws, can begin. Yes, this is a huge betrayal for Max, and I feel for him as he struggles with it. But he has to stop whipping Liz over it, and I don't like the aspect of his character that continually tortures those who disappoint him--look how he treated Isabel last week. Anyway, I do like Max, most of the time, so please don't think I'm bashing him. I'm just being protective of Liz. Chantel __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
