LOL, I thought it was pretty cool. I was glad to hear that Nasedo did indeed care for the pod squad, and was in fact protecting them (in his own psychotic way) all this time. They definitely had me fooled that Liz was with the correct Max when the left the mirror-room. I figured the concept of the gang being able to eventually shape shift themselves had to be explained away somehow, since obviously regular cast members can't be replaced all the time. The part where Ed/Nasedo 'fell' out of the cave wall was particularly curious. I suppose it ties into being able to hide objects in [apparently] other dimensions behind walls. With Max being captured now, it worries me that one of the other gang -- and Michael would be the likely candidate -- will kill someone to retrieve Max. Someone somewhere speculated that the kids were alien-human hybrids, and I poo-poo'ed the idea, since it made no sense to me. Still doesn't, but that looks like the direction they're taking. And Tess's comment about their having human form doesn't totally parse; we've seen Max's cells, and they looked nothing like human. > members can't be replaced all the time. I'd assumed that the 'book' was _in_ the wall, and Tess just reached in to get it. And Nacedo hid himself in the wall. Many things can be done extrpolating from the power they've displayed... although not violation of the conservation of mass. Just rewatched the ending; contrary to what I thought, Nacedo does say "Now I've got to get him back". Given that he's the only one with a clue as to where Max might be, a simple rescue scene seems likely. I really don't know why Nacedo should be scared of anything. That symbol-projection onto a cloud was pretty impressive. Unless Pierce has some alien tech he can use to defend himself, or threaten Nacedo with if he gets too close, personally I'd go for the direct assault approach. Penetrate HQ and destroy. Stuff I got right: Tess had a connection to Nacedo (foster dad, even.) Nacedo doesn't give jack about humans, and probably basically supports Tess's alien re-unification campaign (I forget if the episode gave us direct evidence; contra is his outrage at them being brought to the Pod Cave.) No further evidence of: Nacedo's ability to control the kids: he seemed somewhat helpless in the face of Tess's obdurateness. A more-than-emotional Max-Liz connection. But: Liz got a flash from Nacedo. Maria's never gotten a flash, right? Wacky would be Liz being connected to Max, and Nacedo's imitation of Max meant he tapped into that. Realistic would be Liz has been changed, and is sensitive to alieneess in some way. Some minor way. Weird: Liz's flash, which was the same both times. Storm, dead body, worm-hole, what? Nacedo rescued Liz at the last. I wonder what he thought his motives were. Preserving his hostage, perhaps. Not burning his capital with the kids unnecessarily. - -xx- Damien X-) - ---------------------------------------------------------------- Visit http://www.xmission.com/~btvs/roswell/ for help and info. - ---------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 2 May 2000 12:22:52 -0400 From: "Mel" Subject: RE: [roswell] nasedo the protector I noticed that Nasedo got Liz out and into that bus and then went to save Max...it shows he didn't want to hurt her or he would have just tried to save Max,right? I am completely amazed by this last episode. I really thought that though there were some weak points, that it led to some amazing plot developements. Overall, I thought what pulled this together was Jason Behr's acting. I know some thought it was questionable last week and that he was "phoning it in" but I thought he was just incredible tonight. More on that later though. Here are some thoughts and observations: 1) Isabel and Michael(non romantic): Even though she didn't have that many scenes tonight, what struck me first struck in this episode was how adament Isabel was that Tess and her own pod memories were wrong. For a long time, we've known that Max wants things to remain the same. If he could have his way, he would probably marry Liz, have kids and live happily ever after. However, we've only once or twice(most notably in The Toy House) seen how important it is for Isabel to maintain the status quo too. I just thought it was interesting that Isabel kept saying that "this can't be right." Did that strike any of you? I thought it was just fascinating to see Isabel be confronted by her alien side and panic. I also found it interesting that yet again, Michael is the only one that really wants to know about his origin. I guess in many ways, Michael is quickly becoming the strong one. He wants the answers to his past and doesn't seem to be afraid to confront them, no matter what the consequences. 2) Tess: Okay I again hate to say it but I really am having a difficult time feeling anything for this character and in this case, I do blame the actress. I'm sure Emilie is a great person but she just isn't doing it for me. Rather than coming off as someone who has been "suffering" for many years, she comes off bratty. I almost laughed during her scene with Mr. Harding/Nasedo in the rock formation. She was acting so insolent and child-like, not scared or victimized as she has tried to portray to Max. I also had many issues with the big revelatory scene with Max and Tess at the jeep. I felt nothing. Tess speaks of Nasedo not having a human side and yet the acting was so stilted that it seemed that neither did Tess. In the hands of a better actress, I would feel she was a threat to Max and Liz. I would also feel for her and sympathize with her situation. I feel nothing. Any Tess lovers/Emilie supporters that can help me see things differently? 3) Michael and Maria: I am really more concerned for this couple than I am for Max and Liz. As Max and Tess have more scenes together, and their lack of chemistry becomes more evident, I feel even more strongly that Liz and Max are soulmates. Michael and Maria on the other hand have me wondering. I really like Isabel so for me, she is a legitimate contender for Michael's heart. I also think that Katy and Brendan have an interesting chemistry, that has made me believe that something could be there. I've seen Isabel "mother" Michael and I believed it. I also believe this new incarnation of their relationship. Call me crazy, but I think there's something there. Then again, that doesn't make it any easier for me to see Michael be so cruel to Maria. "Our stupid relationship" Oh that was wrong in so many ways. 4) Destiny and Fate (again) and Engineered versus Birth: It seems we have a new ingredient to add to the pot. We've all been questioning and debating the twists and turns of fate and destiny but now we have something else to consider. If Michael, Max and Isabel were in fact engineered and not born, then perhaps their emotions have been also. Max can proclaim, "We control our own lives. I won't let any book tell me what to do" all he wants but he's still having visions and fantasies about Tess. Destiny and fate may play a huge role in human lives but how about lives that have been pre-determined already. I am dying to see where this goes and to see in what ways, if any, Michael, Max and Isabel have been affected. 5) Liz and Nasedo Max: Okay, was I the only one creeped out by Nasedo Max? Jason was just awesome! I think what made their scenes together so frightening for me was how callously Nasedo manipulated Liz's feelings for the real Max. He knew that she would go with "Max" anywhere without question. He was so shady. 6)Valenti and Pierce: I really liked the game of cat and mouse they were playing. I liked that Valenti was so suspicious of the new deputy and that he was treating him like a peon. I also loved how the deputy turned out to be Pierce and that Valenti is now quickly becoming an ally to the aliens even if he isn't aware of it yet. Either way, Valenti's involvement is necessary at this point I think. He has to get involved if we want this character to continue to grow. We need more William Sadler and this is a great way to do it. 7) The Carnival Scenes: Though I thought the mirror fun house scenes went on a minute or two too long, I really enjoyed the symbolism behind it. The distortion of the reflections. The not knowing who anyone really is. The inability to trust anyone anymore. It was great. I also thought it was quite a moving scene to see Liz and Max touch hands through the glass. It was like their worst nightmares come true.(though it looks like next week's episode is going to be even worse) Being so close and yet so far. Wanting to be together but having a barrier, no matter how transparent, come between them. Max isolated from Liz because of "who he is" It was brilliant. 8) Jason's acting: This is the part where I gush. I really thought he was amazing again tonight. Jason has the most expressive eyes I have ever seen and tonight was a perfect example of that. I could tell during the carnival scenes which Max was which just from the softness in his eyes(the real Max) or the coldness in them(Nasedo Max). Once again, another stellar performance from JB. As a side note, I was able to watch Rites of Passage of this weekend(Jason's Victor Salva directed movie) and he was awesome! Those who haven't really seen Jason do anything else other than Roswell will be surprised by the transformation. 9) That horrifying ending and its implications: I was literally crying along with Liz when she broke down and said that "they have Max." This is the culmination of 20 episodes of hiding and pretending that the aliens were "untouchable." This is what they have been afraid of all of their lives and it's finally happening. When Jason squatted down to the ground and wrapped his arms around himself...I was just so moved. I can only imagine what is going to happen to Max next week. Pierce has finally gotten the alien he wanted. Next week is going to be so difficult to watch. Some minor observations: A) Did anybody else want more emotion from Maria tonight? Have they completely changed her character again? B) Where the hell is Kyle? C) I loved how Michael was the one to hug Liz after Max was taken. I'm not sure if it made sense but I certainly like how he instinctively did it. D) I hated the Isabel and Alex scene at the Crashdown simply because I thought they should have let us see Alex's reaction to the "pregnancy." E) Have the writers just completely obliterated the Jim/Amy relationship? That sucks. I thought they were so cute together. My Weekly Shallow Post: A shirtless Max. That jeep scene was devoid of any sensuality but by God, it's always nice to see a shirtless Max. Next week looks like dreamers all over the world are going to be happy!(including me) :) I thought the car scene with Liz and Nasedo Max was pretty hot too(the way they flirted and she climbed aboard the Behrminator was so cute) Sure, it turned out he was a killer which is always a downer but up until that point, I was a happy camper. ;) I love Majandra's new hair and Katy has never looked more beautiful. Brendan is always adorable. I wanted more Alex in this but at least got a few scenes with him which is more than I can say for poor Nick. What's the deal. More William Sadler has been cool too. I am liking Valenti more and more each week. :) All in all, another great episode. I wanted more romance in this one but I guess we can't always get that. I'm sad to see this season end soon but am confident that our fight has not been in vain. Can't wait for next week. Take care all! :) Gina :) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ "...And now I think it's kind of funny that you say you love me. I also think that Katy and Brendan have = an=20 interesting chemistry, that has made me believe that something could = be there.=20 I've seen Isabel "mother" Michael and I believed it. I also believe = this new=20 incarnation of their relationship. Call me crazy, but I think there's=20 something there. Then again, that doesn't make it any easier for me to = see=20 Michael be so cruel to Maria. "Our stupid relationship" Oh that was = wrong in=20 so many ways.

4) Destiny and Fate (again) and Engineered = versus=20 Birth: It seems we have a new ingredient to add to the pot. = We've all=20 been questioning and debating the twists and turns of fate and destiny = but now=20 we have something else to consider. If Michael, Max and Isabel were in = fact=20 engineered and not born, then perhaps their emotions have been also. = Max can=20 proclaim, "We control our own lives. I won't let any book tell me what = to do"=20 all he wants but he's still having visions and fantasies about Tess. = Destiny=20 and fate may play a huge role in human lives but how about lives that = have=20 been pre-determined already. I am dying to see where this goes and to = see in=20 what ways, if any, Michael, Max and Isabel have been affected. =

5) Liz and Nasedo Max: Okay, was = I the only=20 one creeped out by Nasedo Max? Jason was just awesome! I think what = made their=20 scenes together so frightening for me was how callously Nasedo = manipulated=20 Liz's feelings for the real Max. He knew that she would go with "Max" = anywhere=20 without question. He was so shady.

6)Valenti and Pierce: I really = liked the=20 game of cat and mouse they were playing. I liked that Valenti was so=20 suspicious of the new deputy and that he was treating him like a peon. = I also=20 loved how the deputy turned out to be Pierce and that Valenti is now = quickly=20 becoming an ally to the aliens even if he isn't aware of it yet. = Either way,=20 Valenti's involvement is necessary at this point I think. He has to = get=20 involved if we want this character to continue to grow. We need more = William=20 Sadler and this is a great way to do it.

7) The Carnival Scenes: Though I = thought=20 the mirror fun house scenes went on a minute or two too long, I really = enjoyed=20 the symbolism behind it. The distortion of the reflections. The not = knowing=20 who anyone really is. The inability to trust anyone anymore. It was = great. I=20 also thought it was quite a moving scene to see Liz and Max touch = hands=20 through the glass. It was like their worst nightmares come = true.(though it=20 looks like next week's episode is going to be even worse) Being so = close and=20 yet so far. Wanting to be together but having a barrier, no matter how = transparent, come between them. Max isolated from Liz because of "who = he is"=20 It was brilliant.

8) Jason's acting: This is the = part where I=20 gush. I really thought he was amazing again tonight. Jason has the = most=20 expressive eyes I have ever seen and tonight was a perfect example of = that. I=20 could tell during the carnival scenes which Max was which just from = the=20 softness in his eyes(the real Max) or the coldness in them(Nasedo = Max). Once=20 again, another stellar performance from JB. As a side note, I was able = to=20 watch Rites of Passage of this weekend(Jason's Victor Salva directed = movie)=20 and he was awesome! Those who haven't really seen Jason do anything = else other=20 than Roswell will be surprised by the transformation.

9) That horrifying ending and its=20 implications: I was literally crying along with Liz when she = broke=20 down and said that "they have Max." This is the culmination of 20 = episodes of=20 hiding and pretending that the aliens were "untouchable." This is what = they=20 have been afraid of all of their lives and it's finally happening. = When Jason=20 squatted down to the ground and wrapped his arms around himself...I = was just=20 so moved. I can only imagine what is going to happen to Max next week. = Pierce=20 has finally gotten the alien he wanted. Next week is going to be so = difficult=20 to watch.

Some minor = observations:
A) Did anybody else want more emotion from Maria = tonight? I=20 couldn't believe that she didn't rip Michael a new a-hole when she = overheard=20 the pregnancy discussion between Michael and Isabel. What happened to=20 firecracker Maria? Have they completely changed her character=20 again?
B) Where the hell is Kyle?
C) I loved how Michael was the one to hug Liz = after Max was=20 taken. I'm not sure if it made sense but I certainly like how he = instinctively=20 did it.
D) I hated the Isabel and Alex scene at the = Crashdown simply=20 because I thought they should have let us see Alex's reaction to = the =20 "pregnancy."
E) Have the writers just completely obliterated = the Jim/Amy=20 relationship? That sucks. I thought they were so cute together. =

My Weekly Shallow = Post: A=20 shirtless Max. That jeep scene was devoid of any sensuality but by = God, it's=20 always nice to see a shirtless Max. Next week looks like dreamers all = over the=20 world are going to be happy!(including me) :) I thought the car scene = with Liz=20 and Nasedo Max was pretty hot too(the way they flirted and she climbed = aboard=20 the Behrminator was so cute) Sure, it turned out he was a killer which = is=20 always a downer but up until that point, I was a happy camper. ;) I = love=20 Majandra's new hair and Katy has never looked more beautiful. Brendan = is=20 always adorable. I wanted more Alex in this but at least got a few = scenes with=20 him which is more than I can say for poor Nick. What's the deal. More = William=20 Sadler has been cool too. I am liking Valenti more and more each week. = :)
All in all, another great episode. I wanted more = romance in=20 this one but I guess we can't always get that. I'm sad to see this = season end=20 soon but am confident that our fight has not been in vain. Can't wait = for next=20 week. Take care all! :) Gina :)
