In 6th grade, I did my science project on air pressure, and demonstrated a
trick like that in front of my class. Have you ever heard of the science
experiment where you light a match, drop it in a bottle, and put an egg on
the top of the opening? As the result, the oxygen is removed, and the egg is
sucked into the bottle. Liz was guiding Kyle through an experiment to see
how much oxygen was left in the cave, because it was running out. When Liz
couldn't help them she said something like: "Breathe shallow." Thats
something you love to hear when you are running out of air! Can't wait till
9PM EST! I'm wondering about Liz in the wedding dress, it has to be either
hers or Max's imagination.

That reminds me of something similar, regarding how some men (usually men)
can lie on a bed of nails and not be punctured multiple times. Apparently,
the 'trick' is that the nails are so close together, that the individual's
weight is properly distributed over them, so a single nail can't quite find
it's way through the skin. Of course, I'm sure there's some build up of
calluses, but it's not quite the extraordinary feat that they'd have you
believe.
Just an interesting off-topic tidbit...

Subject: [roswell] Viva Las Vegas Episode
A thoroughly enjoyable episode. Judging by the commercials, I was thinking
this would be a fluff episode, as they typically show after sweeps. And,
while it had some of those elements, it was a good upbeat plot, with the
gang still showing some camaraderie (even Michael).
I almost thought Valenti was going to break a smile and ask why he wasn't
invited along, but then I remembered the last few episodes, and why he would
react the way he did. Was also glad Isabel stuck to her principals, even if
they were implicitly stated.
I'm not a drinker myself, so it took some others to point out that all of
their aliases were some kind of alcoholic beverage. I'll have to watch it
again to get the full joke. I should have known from 'Margarita Salt.' LOL.
Almost also thought that Liz would finally spill the beans about the future
Max deal, so I'm guessing she's finally going to tell very soon. We'll see.
Anyway, a very well structured story, certainly worth a re-watch. Who
originally sang 'Viva Las Vegas' anyway? Too many renditions...

You know, take the characters out of their normal
environment, and you can learn surprising things about
them. In Roswell, how often do Kyle and Alex have a
chance to hang out? When does Michael get to show his
appreciation and care for Maria in such a gradiose
manner? And how else would Tess suddenly learn that
she effectively has a father in Sheriff Valenti? She
is NOT an orphan anymore.

Oh lord, I laughed myself silly during that scene,
especially in the part where he's ranting, "It's okay
to disappear to save a planet, any planet, but not
okay to go off for underage gambling." (paraphrasing
of course) You know, if there is a single adult who
needs to be kept in the loop, it's him. But it was
nice to see them doing normal teenage stuff (as Isabel
would say) and getting nailed for it.

I really enjoyed the episode. I think it was exactly
what the characters, and the fans, needed.

Hey. I've kind of fallen out of the loop on some of the specifics. Been swamped at work. So, what's going on with the campaign for another season, what's the network's timing for making that decision, and what list are most folks heading off to after this one shuts down [:-(] ? Also, other than Crashdown, what's a good site to keep up with things Roswell?
Although I've been a mostly silent list observer, I've really enjoyed reading the posts. Hokey as it sounds, it's been fun to be part of this Roswell community. Thanks.

The campaign is still centered mostly around ratings,
but we are also being asked to email the WB after
every episode to express our appreciation. The
address is faces@thewb.com
I haven't decided where to take myself after this list
shuts down. I also belong to Roswell-NoLongerTeen in
yahoogroups, but it's a different feel in many ways.
I thought we could maybe just add another yahoogroup,
but called the roswellxmission group, so that we
recognize ourselves and retain some of the feel here.
What does everyone think? I'll create the group if
enough are interested and if someone else will
volunteer to help me moderate it (not that we would
need much of that).

Works for me. I only have one question, and Sapphire
can answer this I hope. And I hope I make sense!
Will we be 'invading' in any way? In other words, are
we going to upset those on your lists who don't lurk
and participate regularly? I'd hate to do that. I
get this mental image of this mass influx of xmission
refugees totally taking over.... :) But I have a
weird imagination.
If Sapphire thinks the more the merrier, then I'll
join up tomorrow.

Many of these people are web-only readers. I can't imagine signing up
for a list and then unsubbing when people actually start talking. I post
things, and a couple of others, and that's about it. People were very
talkative when the list first started, and then I got busy and didn't
have a lot of time to post and interact, and it died down. The fact that
I have so many on the list and few talk is quite depressing, actually,
but it's my own fault, I just got back into the swing of things. In fact,
if there is a volunteer for a co-moderator, that would be great so that
there is more than one of us available to people. I am definitely not a
power-monger, I will be more than happy to share the list-admin
duties if someone wants to help. I also have a links page on the
website that people can add their own links to, and encourage people
to upload things into the files area, etc. I think that having people on the
list who are more interested in posting and discussing will be a good
thing for the list, and if people don't like an active list, then they don't
have to stay. What's a mailing list for anyway? :-)
