I got some really neat cards back. Lisa: a black matchbook cover stamped on the outside with a single flower that has been embossed with glitter. Where do you get these little matchbooks full of paper. Neat idea. Barbara: Navy cardstock with old father christmas embossed in white. glittery stars in the sky and a very nice gold bow with bells on the end. Excellent idea. Inside is the words to "Jolly Old St. Nicholas" Meegan: Dark burgandy/red cardstock The front is framed with white embossing. Inside the frame is a pansy border and a verse "no matter how busy I seem to be....." How in the world did you get that border so straight? Sroddis: Black cardstock framed in white embossing powder. Handmade paper is layered on the black. More black cardstock is layered on the handmade on which is stamped a moon with a dragon(I think) laying on his nose. This is so neat. Carole Mork: Dark blue cardstock on which is stamped a Denami frame embossed in white. Inside the frame is some muted blue background paper. On top of this is a layer of red on which is stamped Love in white. Very nice indeed. Thanks again ladies for all the cards and the neat ideas. I've sent out all our Christmas ready-rubber and am cooking up more today to go out to you Monday... want some? And Mr Evo is "counting" more cardstock as we speak! Hey... this is a popular one folks... here it is again... :}> We did it last year and it's time again! We offer this special with a smile and a grin... Four sheets of rubber with images galore... 47 dies and including much more... 10 sheets of cardstock! That's a real plus! For Rubber and Cardstock just "count" on us! Mr Evo is smiling and nodding his head... Sez, "Make some of that cardstock... Green and Red! Sprinkle some navy to make it real purty... and other colors, too ... shucks, let's make it 30!" Woe is me... woe and begone... He simply won't let my "counting" alone! Ok, Mr Evo, you're looking so fine... I'm letting YOU "count" these out this time! :{<> Soooooo, Thanks to Mr Evo, you'll be getting... 4 sheets of Christmas rubber dies containing 47 images + minimum of 30 sheets (remember, he's counting! :{<>) of neato cardstock...$25 which includes US shipping. Canadian & European shipping add $3.95 Pacific Rim shipping add $5.95 And Here's What You Get... *Christmas tree, Santa, Santa's bag...Large and small *Nativity Scene images...Mary, Baby in a manger, window and star, Angel, Hay...Large and small. *"Away in a Manger" verse, "...and this day, a King is born...", Season's Greetings (two sizes), Peace (2 sizes), Merry Christmas (3 different sizes), Peace on Earth, Holiday Greetings and a bow with "Merry Christmas" on the ribbons. *Greenery branches, 2 different holly clusters, a display of seashells with holly interspersed between (everyone needs one of these!), a snowman with hat and holly (2 sizes), a rose encircled with ivy (2 sizes), a long stemmed rose (large, medium and small), and... last, but definitely not least... *A Mona Lisa Dromedary! (camel)...large, medium and small. I drew this guy back in 1985 when we were in Saudi Arabia and have made her/him into one of our stamps. I call her/him my Mona Lisa Dromedary because I never knew if she/he was about to smile or spit! (And camels are known to spit quite often!) The stamp is face and neck only...and is fun to have her/him popping up in unusual places in your creations. I've had very good like with some finely detailed stamps, too...not just solid image stamps. Embossed Velvet Card by Shannon Green Supplies needed: Good quality velvet (such as rayon) Iron Spray bottle of water Stamp(s) 1 sheet 8-1/2" x 11" cardstock Decorative foil Spray adhesive 3/4" wide Miracle Tape (*see note below) Exacto knife Ruler 1. Cut your cardstock in half to form 2 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" pieces. Score one of those pieces in the middle and fold to form your card. Cut the other piece in half again to form 2 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" postcards. You will use one of these postcards and save the other for another project. 2. Cut a piece of velvet slightly larger than your postcard. Lay your stamp, rubber side up, on a flat surface. Place your velvet, fuzzy side down, on top of the stamp. Spritz the back of the velvet with water. Lay your iron on top of the velvet, being careful not to move the velvet or impress the steam vents of the iron onto the velvet. Remove the velvet and let it cool. 3. Spray your postcard with any type of spray adhesive (Krylon, Elmers, etc...). Spray adhesive is very messy, so you might want to do this outdoors. Lay the back side of your stamped velvet piece on top of the adhesive and press evenly (or use a brayer). You don't need a super strong bond for this particular project, just something to hold the velvet in place. 4. Trim the excess velvet from the edges of the postcard. 5. Cut 4 pieces of Miracle Tape (*see below for alternative) to use as a border for your postcard. Working with one side at a time, lay the miracle tape down sticky side up, position the edge of the card about half way on the tape, bring the rest of the tape up over the front of the card. Do this on all 4 sides. Basically all you are doing is wrapping the edges of your postcard with the Miracle Tape. This makes a nice border and also will keep the edges of your velvet from unraveling. 6. Working with one side at a time, peel the backing off of the Miracle Tape and stick it to the dull side of decorative foil. Rub the foil firmly to the tape (a bone folder works well for this). Do this on all 4 edges. 7. Turn the postcard over to the back side and run Miracle Tape around the postcard close to the edges. Then press the postcard down on top of the front of your folded cardstock. *An alternative to using Miracle Tape is to go to a golf shop and buy a roll of golf grip tape. It is 3/4" wide and comes in a big roll for $2.99...considerably less than Miracle Tape. It is the color of masking tape, but it is sticky on both sides, thicker, stronger and it's also heat resistant. You can easily emboss on golf grip tape just as you can with Miracle Tape. The drawbacks: it only comes in one width...3/4". Since it has that masking tape look to it, it will show through translucent embossing powders and glitters...which can sometimes be a good thing. I'll let ya in on a little secret...I don't buy Miracle Tape anymore. My self-healing cutting mat has a finely detailed grid that I can use for measuring and I just cut the golf grip tape down to the width I need. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Sep 1997 12:47:02 -0400 (EDT) From: CCABCWOO@aol.com Subject: RubberTown: Humor - MEN!! Rita Rudner's Facts About Men Men like to barbecue. Men will cook if danger is involved. Men who have pierced ears are better prepared for marriage. They've experienced pain and bought jewelry. If you buy your husband or boyfriend a video camera, for the first few weeks he has it, lock the door when you go to the bathroom. Most of my husband's early films end with a scream and a flush. Marrying a divorced man is ecologically responsible. In a world where there are more women than men, it pays to recycle. If it's attention you want, don't get involved with a man during play-off season. All men look nerdy in black socks and sandals. The way a man looks at himself in a mirror will tell you if he can ever care about anyone else. Don't try to teach men how to do anything in public. They can learn in private; in public they have to know. A good place to meet a man is at the dry cleaner. These men usually have jobs and bathe. Men love watches with multiple functions. My husband has one that is a combination address book, telescope and piano. All men hate to hear "We need to talk about our relationship." These seven words strike fear in the heart of even General Schwarzkopf. Men are sensitive in strange ways. If a man has built a fire and the last log does not burn, he will take it personally. Men are brave enough to go to war, but they are not brave enough to get a bikini wax. All men think that they're nice guys. Some of them are not. Contact me for a list of names. Men don't get cellulite. God might just be a man. Men have an easier time buying bathing suits. Women have two types: depressing and more depressing. Men have two types: nerdy and not nerdy. Women take clothing much more seriously than men. I've never seen a man walk into a party and say "Oh, my God, I'm so embarrassed; get me out of here. There's another man wearing a black tuxedo." Most men hate to shop. That's why the men's department is usually on the first floor of a department store, two inches from the door. If a man prepares dinner for you and the salad contains three or more types of lettuce, he is serious. If you're dating a man who you think might be "Mr. Right," if he a) got older, b) got a new job, or c) visited a psychiatrist, you are in for a nasty surprise. The cocoon-to-butterfly theory only works on cocoons and butterflies. Not one man in a beer commercial has a beer belly. Men are less sentimental than women. No man has ever seen the movie THE WAY WE WERE twice, voluntarily. Most women are introspective: "Am I in love? Am I emotionally and creatively fulfilled?" Most men are outrospective: "Did my team win? How's my car?" If a man says, "I'll call you," and he doesn't, he didn't forget... he didn't lose your number... he didn't die. He just didn't want to call you. Men hate to lose. I once beat my husband at tennis. I asked him, "Are we going to have sex again?" He said, "Yes, but not with each other." Men who can eat anything they want and not gain weight should do it out of sight of women. Getting rid of a man without hurting his masculinity is a problem. "Get out" and "I never want to see you again" might sound like a challenge. If you want to get rid of a man, I suggest saying, "I love you... I want to marry you...I want to have your children." Sometimes they leave skid marks. Men accept compliments much better than women do. Example: "Mitch, you look great." Mitch:"Thanks." On the other side: "Ruth, you look great." Ruth: "I do? Must be the lighting." Men who listen to classical music tend not to spit. When a woman tries on clothing from her closet that feels tight, she will assume she has gained weight. When a man tries something from his closet that feels tight, he will assume the clothing has shrunk. Men forget everything; women remember everything. That's why men need instant replays in sports. They've already forgotten what happened. All men would still really like to own a train set. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Sep 97 15:26:47 UT From: "Jonathan Zwang" Subject: RubberTown: Swap idea - Card using handmade paper NAME OF SWAP: Handmade Paper Card or Embellished HOSTED BY: geevee zwangja@msn.com or angelmoose@juno.com ITEMS: 6 for 6 (extra for me if you want!) First I would like to say that I started this to save people money that enjoyed the samething I did...I didnt do this to make great amounts of money .... Little did I know that I bit off more then I can chew...meaning I should have asked tons of questions first...I have done alot of business with other vendors and should have asked their advise on what and what not to do...giving great discounts is great and made me happy to do it for others...but then it ends up that you cant keep afloat always offering great deals when you have companies that have Stamp ordering min then not being able to sell them ...then before you know it you have tons of instock stamps that are collecting dust and your business cant stay afloat for this is money , money I would general make as profit I put back into the business (something I didnt mind )...I would say I generally made maybe 10 to 15% profit and put it straight back into those stamp min...thinking that when I sold them then I would see some profit not for money sake but to be able to buy what the business needed like shipping supplies etc....well it doesnt happen that way...I can say that I probably have quite alot of money sitting here. But things happen and I did not do the best a few months back now I have stamps and the black ink has become RED and I am out personally quite a bit of money...not complaining or whining just a lesson learned well and no one to blame but myself......so it is best right now that I close down shop for a while due to not only the business part but havent been in the best of health and personal stress ...dont want to get into what it all is but its been a tough year for me first diagnosed with Chronic Depression, second moved 3000 miles away from all that I have known (harder then I thought even as an adult) Military life as far as not getting paid when should and not getting paid at all a personal stress..Bad experience with PSX a very big misunderstanding with that Company on their part (only did go back with the due to customers wanting the product ) Letting all this compound. ..Slow business on my part is due to no one but my own ...letting things affect me and my business and not producing as I would like or should have for all of this I am very sorry and dont blame anyone for any ill feelings ...But this was not my heart I have a few orders that are still waiting to get delivered and these will go out...also I have a few back order things that also will be done...I May do some ordering in a few month maybe longer for those of my customers that request it...but I will not be doing anymore ads for the time being if again at all..being not able to give my all has caused me much stress and affected things greatly...I am not only posting to this list but am also mailing out letters to all of my customers of this information...Again I am sorry for any misunderstandings that have been made...there is a few things that have been said that I wont go into but always remember there are two sides to every story ......All orders placed with me will be shipped , refunded or traded for stuff I do have in STock...and no order will be made until all this is done .... like I said before If I do decide to sell again at all...All that I ask is for the time to make it up to you that have ordered and been disappointed...There is alot of things that we all have or suffer from that others dont know about here on the computer ...but one thing we all have to remember is that we are all human and make mistakes and I am here to admit to mine and fix them....thanks for listening ... Okay, if we're onto this topic, here's one you may enjoy. By the way, my name Chris is short for Christopher. Yeah, Imaguy. The Difference Between Men and Women Let's say a guy named Roger is attracted to a woman named Elaine. He asks her out to a movie; she accepts; they have a pretty good time. A few nights later he asks her out to dinner, and again they enjoy themselves. They continue to see each other regularly, and after a while neither one of them is seeing anybody else. And then, one evening when they're driving home, a thought occurs to Elaine, and, without really thinking, she says it aloud: ''Do you realize that, as of tonight, we've been seeing each other for exactly six months?'' And then there is silence in the car. To Elaine, it seems like a very loud silence. She thinks to herself: Geez, I wonder if it bothers him that I said that. Maybe he's been feeling confined by our relationship; maybe he thinks I'm trying to push him into some kind of obligation that he doesn't want, or isn't sure of. And Roger is thinking: Gosh. Six months. And Elaine is thinking: But, hey, I'm not so sure I want this kind of relationship, either. Sometimes I wish I had a little more space, so I'd have time to think about whether I really want us to keep going the way we are, moving steadily toward . . . I mean, where are we going? Are we just going to keep seeing each other at this level of intimacy? Are we heading toward marriage? Toward children? Toward a lifetime together? Am I ready for that level of commitment? Do I really even know this person? And Roger is thinking: . . . so that means it was . . . let's see . . . February when we started going out, which was right after I had the car at the dealer's, which means . . . lemme check the odometer . . . Whoa! I am way overdue for an oil change here. And Elaine is thinking: He's upset. I can see it on his face. Maybe I'm reading this completely wrong. Maybe he wants more from our relationship, more intimacy, more commitment; maybe he has sensed -- even before I sensed it -- that I was feeling some reservations. Yes, I bet that's it. That's why he's so reluctant to say anything about his own feelings. He's afraid of being rejected. And Roger is thinking: And I'm gonna have them look at the transmission again. I don't care what those morons say, it's still not shifting right. And they better not try to blame it on the cold weather this time. What cold weather? It's 87 degrees out, and this thing is shifting like a damn garbage truck, and I paid those incompetent thieves $600. And Elaine is thinking: He's angry. And I don't blame him. I'd be angry, too. I feel so guilty, putting him through this, but I can't help the way I feel. I'm just not sure. And Roger is thinking: They'll probably say it's only a 90-day warranty. That's exactly what they're gonna say, the scumballs. And Elaine is thinking: Maybe I'm just too idealistic, waiting for a knight to come riding up on his white horse, when I'm sitting right next to a perfectly good person, a person I enjoy being with, a person I truly do care about, a person who seems to truly care about me. A person who is in pain because of my self-centered, schoolgirl romantic fantasy. And Roger is thinking: Warranty? They want a warranty? I'll give them a damn warranty. I'll take their warranty and stick it right up their .... "Roger," Elaine says aloud. "What?" says Roger, startled. "Please don't torture yourself like this," she says, her eyes beginning to brim with tears. "Maybe I should never have . . Oh God, I feel so . .... . " (She breaks down, sobbing.) "I'm such a fool," Elaine sobs. "I mean, I know there's no knight. I really know that. It's silly. There's no knight, and there's no horse." "There's no horse?" says Roger. "You think I'm a fool, don't you?" Elaine says. "No!" says Roger, glad to finally know the correct answer. "It's just that . . . It's that I . . . I need some time, Elaine says. (There is a 15-second pause while Roger, thinking as fast as he can, tries to come up with a safe response. Finally he comes up with one that he thinks might work.) "Yes," he says. (Elaine, deeply moved, touches his hand.) "Oh, Roger, do you really feel that way?" she says. "What way?" says Roger. "That way about time," says Elaine. "Oh," says Roger. "Yes." (Elaine turns to face him and gazes deeply into his eyes, causing him to become very nervous about what she might say next, especially if it involves a horse. At last she speaks.) "Thank you, Roger," she says. "Thank you," says Roger. Then he takes her home, and she lies on her bed, a conflicted, tortured soul, and weeps until dawn, whereas when Roger gets back to his place, he opens a bag of Doritos, turns on the TV, and immediately becomes deeply involved in a rerun of a tennis match between two Czechoslovakians he never heard of. A tiny voice in the far recesses of his mind tells him that something major was going on back there in the car, but he is pretty sure there is no way he would ever understand what, and so he figures it's better if he doesn't think about it. (This is also Roger's policy regarding world hunger.) The next day Elaine will call her closest friend, or perhaps two of them, and they will talk about this situation for six straight hours. In painstaking detail, they will analyze everything she said and everything he said, going over it time and time again, exploring every word, expression, and gesture for nuances of meaning, considering every possible ramification. They will continue to discuss this subject, off and on, for weeks, maybe months, never reaching any definite conclusions, but never getting bored with it, either. Meanwhile, Roger, while playing racquetball one day with a mutual friend of his and Elaine's, will pause just before serving, frown, and say: "Norm, did Elaine ever own a horse?" - --Chris McEwen Socrates Press ------------------------------ End of rubbertown Digest V1 #78 ******************************* To subscribe to rubbertown Digest, send the command: subscribe rubbertown-digest in the body of a message to "majordomo@xmission.com".
