Happy New Year 1998 !! Still room for lots more players! Come and join us! This is my favorite monthly swap cuz it is so easy! Plus you get to see and collect a lot of the images that are out there........great for newbies especially! I just wanted to update everyone on the new image swap themes and procedures for 1998. As you all know, Jan 98 will be Ruthann's last swap which is Stampa Barbara. I will be listing my themes shortly. First, I'd like to share with you the new procedures: **Send ten (10)** cards 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 inch cards (half sheet of cardstock). Don't fold! Include an ADDRESS LABEL (SAML) for me to use to return the cards. **Send $1.00 for mailing the cards back** DON'T COLOR. Use WHITE - can be glossy or matte. Stamp in black ink that won't smear if colored with markers, or you can emboss. If you want to do different images on the cards instead of all the same, that is fine. Please include stamp credits. Put your name and e-mail addy on the back of each card. All cards must be postmarked by the last day of each month. Stamp things that will be EASY to cut out. Remember you will have to cut out what you get back to use to make your own cards. My address is: Eva J. The only exception is if you do a large stamp that can only fit a couple of times on the card, then the card can be cut in half and used like a mat. For example, a floral image from PSX is usually large, so just stamp the image twice on one card and the card could easily be cut in half. New Procedures: Send TEN cards instead of the previous six. Send ONE DOLLAR instead of .78cents. I will use the money to buy envelopes and for the extra postage to mail back to you. Can't wait to see all your great images!! Let's play! First cards due postmarked Jan 31st...........let's get ready for Easter and Spring!! I just also want to thank Ruthann for a fun 97. Libby White just RAK'd me :):) I'd *just* spent two hors sitting at the Dr. ofc waiting for a shot for the sinus infection that had me down the whole holiday when I stopped at the post office on the way home. The "always delightful" WAD of advertising from the grocery stores and auto parts shops stuffed my tiny box, but hidden down at the verrrry bottom was "~~THE KEY~~"!! Now, in our post office, if there's any letter or parcel too big for the post box, they stick it in a locker like the ones at the bus station and put the key in your mailbox. This way, even if you check your mail at 3am like I often do on my lunch hour at work, working nights, you can still get your packages without having to wait for the office to open. ((hehehe...we're not TOTALLLY "country bumpkin" here :) )) ANYWAY!!!....the key, the key.....led me to a WONDERMOUS package from LIBBY WHITE! LIBBY WHITE! Your name should be in twinkling LIGHT! for the smile and joy you brought to my face! :):) I met Libby for the first time in Atlanta when I did the Stamp Convention there and what a sweetie!! She helped out in the Third Coast booth and gave me a much needed break, watching carefully over my son and helping all our customers :) So...you ask..."what did she send you???" Libby apparently read my post about my delight at discovering the interference and pearlescent paints and sent me not "one", not "two" but FIVE tubes of DELICIOUS acrylics!!! There is Interference Green, Interference Violet, Pearlescent Bell Bronze, Pearlescent BirdWing Copper and some Glow-In-The-Dark Fabric Paint, which Roadkill thought was TOOOOO cool!! Thank you, thank you, Libby, not only for the new toys which I am DYING to play with, but for your thoughtfulness and kindness to this "bumpkin" :) You REALLY made my day!! Here are the little treasures that I got: Amy Alford - accordian travel-theme book cover: real map paper inside: deckle-edged accordianed-paper with travel theme stamps on both sides The book is tied together with gold ribbon. Nice work, I especially like the used of real map to create covers. Mona Everett cover: exotic paper - black and silver (the type of paper that looks like it's been crumpled, dipped in silver than uncrumpled) inside: signature is pamphlet-stitched to the exotic cover. A very dramatic looking book. Darlene Troyer - a lovely and stirring tribute to Curtis Uyeda cover: tan wallpaper that looks like handmade paper. Folded to form a wallet. The flap tucks into a slit. A stamped image of a japanese person is cut out and adhered to cork which is adhered to the wallpaper cover. inside: A textured golden bead is attached to the binding thread that holds the signature of paper to the cover. The bead hangs to the outside of the wallet. On the pages is a beautiful poem to commemorate Curtis Uyeda. Stamped japanese images adorn the pages. Tdrinla - corrugated cardboard cover. Collage of coca cola images, handmade paper, a sweet bear and confetti hearts. The cover is tied together with red ribbon. A darling booklet. Ajlum cover: white matboard with a button and ribbon closure to keep the booklet shut inside: a nice surpise, each page is a paper pocket (see Somerset Studios premier issue for instructions on how to make these). When I opened the first pocket I found a LOVE magnet ( a gift within a gift - I enjoyed that). Each pocket is made of different paper - one was made of vellum, another, a colourful page from a glossy magazine (great idea). Each pocket is stitched to tapes (ribbons), the ribbon in glued to the covers. The procedure is explained in 'Cover to Cover' by Shereen La Plantz (p.52-55). This is the first time I've actually had an actual sample of a booklet that used this method of binding. I'm inspired. Avery clever combination of techniques. Thanks for hosting a handmade book swap, Mona. I thoroughly enjoyed this swap and I hope you consider doing another in the near future.
