At value village I've found: magazines to cut up for collage images, clear glass plates to decoupage, a shirt I bought for 60 cents just so I could cut the funky buttons off it, jewelry to take apart for charms (although gargage sales are better for tis, the jewelry there is usually 25 or 50 cents, but at Value Village it's $1 or $2 or more!) Another background tip: Crayola has a set of 8 "color changing" crayons...they have tiny bits of wax in 3 or 4 colors in one crayon, so you get all the colors when you crayon with them. These make great backgrounds!! That particular kind of crayon is hard to find though. I got 2 in a "sampler" pack in Walmart, fell in love, and took another 4 months to find the suckers in a full pack! Subject: RubberTown: Thank you Laura's Tribe Buddy I got my mail yesterday...a package slip at the manager's office...hmmm, I haven't ordered anything (lately). So I rushed over there Saturday (in the rain even) to claim my prize. Yep a box from my Tribe Buddy. You are the greatest! Here's what I found: 2 Marvy Matchable ink pads...pink and plum...perfect for Valentine's Day. A "Linen Set" of cards, mats and envys. Beautiful dark green & sage with gray envys. I love them. A Stamper's Sampler mag. I might have to sub to this! The Embossing Powder Funnel II! Good Job. I got #1, but it was too tall. This one looks perfect, can't wait to put it together. and last, but definitly not least, the Kreate-a lope envelope maker templates (size A-2 of course!). I've been meaning to buy an envy template for the last few months, but always find something else I want more! Thank you so so much...I'm going to go play now! My valuable tip #1 Join or form a stamping group. You get a lot of valuable ideas from other stampers. My valuable tip #2 Join a card swap. You will learn a lot. My valuable tip #3 Make a "catalog" so to speak of all your images that you own. Bring this with you when you go to a convention or on a stamp shopping trip. That way you won't buy anything you don't need. My valuable tip #4 Invest in a HALOS system. You won't be sorry! I need to tell you / remind you about this GREAT technique!! Hadn't done it in awhile, and just pulled it out and dusted it off. I really believe it has improved with age!! =D Using a bold stamp (solid, like Posh), color in the design using brush markers. Breathe/huff on it, and stamp. Huff again, and stamp again for a second image. You can probably do it a third time, although it will be starting to get faint. NOW!! For the fun part!! Take a spray bottle and with a FINE MIST, spray over and across the stamp. Stamp again! This time the colors are alive and vibrant, and look like watercolor! You can mist again and stamp and this time they are more soft and muted. See how many times you can do this with just one inking! I get anywhere from 6 - 8 prints on uncoated cardstock (index cards). **This is particularly lovely if you then dry-emboss with brass stencils! Connors' Collectibles has coordinating stamp/stencil sets that match, so you can use the VERY faint prints and they are gorgeous.** If you haven't done this before, or haven't done it in awhile, run and try it...it's great fun, and since you make so many prints from one inking, just think how far ahead you'll be with extra stuff! :) Mary - - ------------------------------ End of rubbertown-digest V1 #116 ********************************
