I thought a post said there would be two lists - one of people who wanted to be RAKed and one of people who wanted to RAK. Therefore the latter would receive the names/addys of the former list and RAK at their leisure. This is why I signed my mom (Marilyn Spadoni) up for the recipient list so she would be surprised with the cards and get some stamping ideas and I volunteered to send some RAKs. The potential RAK list just listed my mom - not me. If you could clear up this issue - there seems to be some confusion. Thanks, Christi Spadoni - ---Lisa Mallette wrote: > > > > >I will send out who you are supposed to RAK during the month of February > (valentines?) within the next few days. > > Um...maybe I'm missing something, but doesn't the very act of "assigning" > people to RAK actually destroy the "randomness" of the entire process? > > RAK = RANDOM act of kindess > > I also thought that to be RAK'ed was to be SURPRISED when you got something > out of the blue for no reason. > > I'm not trying to pooh-pooh what you're doing here; but it seems like this > is actually a "secret sister" or "tribe" sorta thing (except the names are > out in the open) rather than what could be termed a RAK. > > Just my .02, FWIW. New players, let me know if you want to join!!! More are welcome! Mounted Stamp Swap I know that there are stamps in your stamp drawers that you never use or don't like, so here is a chance to get gently used stamps for just the price of postage!!! Due Date: Last day of February Details: x for x, however many you send is how many you get back. Don't send extra for me as I will be playing also. Send a list of likes/dislikes and I will do my best to match up, but no promises. I've hosted this swap before and it worked out great last time!! Although, some people do send in lots of "little" stamps and I did have to send one med-large stamp for 2 small ones. Or 2 or 3 foam mounted for one wood. Is that fair? ***New Notes: Just a reminder to those who send in foam mounted stamps. You will get one wood mounted stamp for foam mounted. This was originally supposed to be only wood mouned stamps. Some are sending in foam mounted stamps but attaching them wood? And also wanted to mention that some are sending in 30 small tiny stamps. I don't know what to do about this. As I did last time I hosted, I will probably send you one stamp for two small ones. If you send in 30 stamps and they are all small, and then you only send in $3.00 for postage, I can't send you 30 stamps that are bigger and have it be under 2 lbs. Sorry for being hard on this, just want to be fair to everyone! Postage: I did have a problem last time with postage because some people sent in small stamps and I returned different sizes. I am going to do priority this time, sooo $3.00 priority for under 2 lbs. I would recommend keeping it under 2 lbs. But if you want to send more, I have no problem with that, just send more postage! What technique >> >> Here is a REALLLLY quick one!!! And it is gorgeous. I have a box of ivory dry-embossed "announcements" from a store that sells wedding invites, etc. They cost me about $12 for 100 cards (+ envys) that are 3 1/2 x 4 3/4. They have a beautiful raised pattern as a border. So!! I take one of these little guys, and cut off the folded plain side. I take a simple small stamp such as a small rose on a stem and an appropriate word stamp (Thank you, Just a Note, etc.) and emboss them in gold. Color in the rosebud burgundy, leaves dk. green. Then, take a dark Burgundy card, and layer a smaller piece of dk. green paper on to it. I attach the ivory card with gold photo corners, and WA- LAAAH! It really is stunning, and very fast. ***One of my favorite tricks is to cut a piece of marbled paper slightly smaller than my cardstock (5 x 8) and fold in half. Glue just the fold into the center fold of my dark cardstock, so I can see the writing on the inside! Stamping with it is impossible. I tried dipping, brayering, brushing, and sponging it onto the stamp with no luck. When you press down on the stamp it squeezes out too thin to take the foil. I think if you get one of those empty squeezie bottles with the nozzle thing at Michael's and put it in there you can use it like a regular foiling glue. If it's fairly thick it takes the foil really well. So you can definitely get good use of it and recoup the $.02 they charged for it. Or squeeze some out on a piece of foil and dip a sea sponge in it then foil for backgrounds, that might work too. Or squeeze it out in trash and wash the bottle out so you'll have a nice empty bottle to fill with your own special paint. No, it's not that bad, definitely useable just not stampable. This is called Easy Foil medium by Duncan and was on clearance at Hobby Lobby. So it's really a swap?? Or am I misunderstanding? I assumed those willing to do the RAKing would be given the name (or names) of someone wanting to be RAKed. I thought Robyn was giving each RAKer 3 names of RAKees...I read something about 3 names, anyway, and that's what I thought. I had it in my mind that RAKs were sent without the recipient being obligated to send anything in return...unconditional acts of kindness maybe...otherwise it's a swap. Either one is just way cool with me, but I wanted to make sure I understand how it works before I volunteer...or sign up. First, the package went to my neighbor's house in error, but to top that off - they've been on vacation for the last 3 weeks, so who knows how long it's been there! My neighbor hand-delivered it today, really upset - it was marked 'damaged in transit'- she was really worried, too, when she saw it came from across the ocean! Anyway, there was a pretty large rip in the package - I'm not sure if anything was lost, but what was still inside is wonderful! Thanks so much! A whole bunch of great unm's - cats, sayings, a bow, some containers, and a bunch more - I love them all! A beautiful pin, which looks like it was made of balsa wood - a tiny fairy stamped on it and colored in so beautifully, and glitter added to the image - this is so pretty! Some really great catalogs - ones I've never seen before! One is from a company called Blade Rubber Stamps from London - some neat images in there! And a bunch of templates and instructions - one for a folded shirt card, a pocket box,how to make crayon paper, and a template for making easels. These are wonderful! And then a sheet of this beautiful shimmery gold cardstock - I have to know where you got this! I've never seen this before! Also, a booklet from Fiskars - called Stamp and Snip - has all kinds of neat projects to make with your decorative fiskars scissors. Definitely some things in there I've never thought of before! Also, the holiday extra issue of Stamper's Sampler - I love getting magazines!! I think that's all - I hope nothing was lost! Hopefully the next package won't get side-tracked! Thanks so much, tribe buddy! Hugs- Lynette - - ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Jan 1998 17:44:20 -0800 From: Shaunna Frasure Subject: RubberTown: Ad:Just a Reminder!
