I've seen Dove Blender Refills in the stores. >> That's right... The DOVE is a little more expensive... but in the long run (if you do a LOT of blending), it can save you money. The tip is a little different too... it's more compact and a bit shorter. The Tombow tip is a little more brush-like... softer, longer.... Here's my "info" on the blenders (one of my favorite tools!): Blender Pens: I sell two types... ~~Tombow (non refillable, longer brush-like tip) $2.20 each ~~Dove (refillable w/fluid and separate tips you can change too. Tips are a little shorter and a little more compact) Pens: $3.40 ea Tips: $.50 ea 1 oz. Fluid: $4.42 ea I find that the tips will stain after awhile, but they still work well ... after aggressive use, however, they do get scruffy at the top. If you think you'll be doing LOTS of larger areas and lots of projects, you might want to go refillable. Some folks are trying the Tombow first to experiment with the technique and then if they like it, they go with the Doves to save money in the long run. ~~~~~~~~~~ How I Use My Blender Pen: Take any regular marker and scribble on a plastic baggie (or other plastic surface) then DIP the blender pen in. It's like painting... and as you "paint" your color on with the Blender Pen, it starts out strong and fades gradually as you "paint", till you dip again! You can also use it with chalks ... paint over them with the blender pen to get a water-colory effect... That's my input! The internet is essentially without regulation or control of any kind. You can read the spam header to find out where the obscene mail is coming from and then go to the originating ISP to have their account closed. Unfortunately, at this time it is easy to forge the header information on email so that you don't really know where it came from. Also, since having their account closed has happened to the porno spammers so many times before, most have become their own ISP. In that case, you're complaining to the fox about someone eating your chickens. The next level of help may not be quick but will probably be more effective in the long run and involves Congress. It is a federal crime to spam fax machines and those who do can be prosecuted. If internet standards are tightened to reduce forging (it is already in the works) and spamming becomes illegal, then the ISP's will have greater interest in controlling the problem lest they become part of the problem and face the resulting fines. In the interim, the thought of coming federal regulation may be enough to get the responsible ISP's motivated to put serious, concerted effort in protecting you. Their efforts today will be their only way to argue against federal law tomorrow and there is a growing ground swell demanding such protection. - --Chris McEwen reply to: Socrates Press socrates@sprintmail.com - -----Original Message----- From: MaltShake9@aol.com Date: Friday, February 27, 1998 1:06 PM Subject: RS: Re: RubberTown: Where can I report... >I've complained to aol about porn ads, but I haven't gotten a good answer >yet. YAY!!! From Sue Middleton: Done on black glossy cs, she glued 1/2 a square paper doily creating a lacy napkin look. She stamped a teapot and 2 teacups on yellow linen (where did you get that yellow linen?? I want to carry it!!!) On the teacups, there are cherries which Sue has done with red 3-d lacquer. Then she stamped "Tea for Two" on red linen (OK, where did you get that one too??). The yellow teacups/teapot are mounted with 3-D mounting tape over the black. What a stunning card!!! From Thea Boschma: Great card! Done in neutral tones... she stamped a large teacup with a rose on Birch cardstock, embossed it in gold glittery ep, and colored it with interference paints. Then she mounted that over a lithographed rose wrapping paper (?) and mounted that on another piece of birch cs. She added a gold bow at the top. The inside has a package of peach tea for me to enjoy! I love this card!!! From Dot McQuade: Another gorgeous card! Dot used a natural cardstock and stamped Magenta's teacup frame. She colored it using chalk. In the center of the frame, she mounted a "T-4-2" postoid all done in glittery!! The whole thing is mounted on a card of Brittany Green duplex (I know where you got that!! ) From Cathy Ball: "Let's have tea" is stamped all over a kraft card, in red and brown. On top is Penny Black's "a hearty cup of tea" stamp featuring a cute little teacup filled with hearts. Cathy colored each heart a different shade... even one with red glitter!! Very cute card!! From Kathy McCaffrey: Beautiful card done on gold cardstock. She had to drink up lots of tea to make these cards because she used an actual tea box as part of her design!! She also included a package of Bigelow tea for me to enjoy, which is tucked into a pocket made from the tea box. Eva Koyona (our hostess) included a sweet little laminated piece that says "There are few hours in life more agreeable than afternoon tea". The large stamps are all large enough to fill the front of a card. These include a frog on a lily pad, a bridge with a stream running underneath, a mountain scene, 2 hummingbirds with flowers, a beach scene with seashells, and a large basket of flowers. The medium stamps include an Indian girl feeding a bird, a boy bunny shyly giving a girl bunny flowers, a feather (like a writing quill), and a sign that says Honeybees Welcome. The small stamps are a cactus, a begging dog, a chick on an egg with a feather in his hat and a butterfly. The word stamps are Handstamped By: and Good Job! The tiny stamps are a bird in flight (perfect for adding to the sky of your card) and a postoid size frog on a lily pad. I accept checks, money orders, Visa, MasterCard and Discover. Do you need the light table to make it work? Is it difficult to do? I don't know if I need anything other than the stylus thingiemibob? >> Hi, Amber!!! This is the easiest thing on the planet. You use a light source (light table is the BEST,since your arm doesn't wear out, and it's portable!!!) such as a window... a stencil (these are usually brass, which causes the most sharp definition), cardstock, tape (removable, like a post-it note), and the stylus (also known as a thingiemibob). Place your stencil on your light source and tape it down. Then, place your cardstock over the top of the stencil. Rub across it with your fingers a couple of times. (This causes the oils from your hands to make the stylus glide easier.) Then, trace inside the design of the stencil firmly with your stylus. That's all there is to it! If you've missed a spot, you can easily place it back on and re-do the section. If you find you've gone crazy and skidded out of the lines, it doesn't matter...it won't show up on the front!!!!! IF YOU USE A STENCIL WITH LETTERING, MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT THE BACK SIDE OF IT...OR IT WILL BE BACKWARDS ON THE FRONT OF YOUR CARD!!!!! You can color with chalks, glitter, or just leave it plain...very elegant. :) Mary - - ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 Feb 1998 23:35:21 -0500 From: Rubber Chicken Subject: Re: RubberTown: Looking for Toybox vendor Cluck cluck! Mr. Chicken and the Rubber Chicken Lady - - ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 Feb 1998 08:56:22 -0800 From: "Ellen Gengler" Subject: RubberTown: Re: Question on stylus embossing Dry Embossing uses light (light box or other light source) and pressure (stylus) to push the paper out in a form (stencil). This is a very elegant "soft" look. It is usually readily seen in store purchased greeting cards. An image looks and feels "raised" from the surface of the card. Since this is such a soft and classic look it is best accentuated with watercolors, glitter, chalks or pencils. Dry Embossing may look polished and beautiful but it is perhaps the EASIEST technique to do. Unlike Heat embossing (with embossing powder and heatguns, other wise known as Wet embossing), dry embossing is virtually impossible to mess up. If you try and emboss outside the stencil lines, you can't! the only way to mess up would be to not orient you paper correctly (it works like a mirror). The other trick is to use wax paper between your stylus and the paper. This helps the paper glide! To set yourself up to dry emboss you do need the following items: light source (I recommend a light box - ATR sells a portable battery operated one, however you can use a window or make your own light box) stencils (you can use brass or plastic stencils, ATR sells a wonderful line of brass stencils with great edges and simple to do) stylus (I generally use the fine or medium point) wax paper (for "glide" effect) paper (generally a medium weight will work, ATR has some wonderful linen envy and paper sets available) chalks, pencils, glitter to enhance. (ultra fine glitter is the best) If you are interested in getting set up with the above package ATR offers a "enhanced" starter kit for $40 (includes lightbox, stencils, paper, stylus, glitter and even wax paper!). Shipping is additional. WA state residents please add 8.6% sales tax.
