You can see through the mount so you can see exactly where you are stamping. You can also combine more than one stamp on a mount instead of stamping several individual images on a card. You put the loop side of the industrial strength Velcro on the back of the um. It has a sticky back so it is easy to put on. Then you just put the um on the acrylic mount and the Velcro holds it together. There are several people on the list that have expressed an interest but don't want to spend $20.00 for the starter kit of HALOS plus the $5.99 for the yard of loop tape and $15.00 for the Kai scissors without knowing they like the system first. So this got me to thinking that what people need is a trial kit that would be very inexpensive and still something useful if they find that HALOS aren't the way they want to go. So what I have to offer is a HALOS grabbag. It has a 1" x 1" acrylic mount with the hook tape already in the recessed grooves and 5 postage size ums that already have the industrial strength loop tape on them. All of this for $5.00 including shipping in U.S. Add $1.00 shipping to Canada and $2.00 shipping to Australia. The HALOS starter set does not have the 1" x 1" mount in it so if you decide you like the system there would be no duplication of mounts. The postage size ums include a dragon holding a heart, a blue bird getting ready to land, a butterfly in flight, a scarecrow in a frame looking at a sunflower, and a frog on a lily pad. For those of you that are already sold on the idea of HALOS I have a special for you too. Free shipping in U.S. when purchasing the HALOS starter set along with my UM Grabbag. You can see the image in my grabbag at http://www.kans.com/~stamps/plate.htm The HALOS starter set consists of four acrylic blocks. Sizes included are l.5" x l.5", 2" x 3.5", 2" x 6", and 3.5" x 4.5". Each set comes with 1/4 yd of 4" loop tape. The whole set of 4 and the tape is $20 (plus $3 shipping if purchased without the um grabbag). Additional tape is available for $5.99 per yard. A good pair of scissors is a must to cut through the rubber and industrial strength loop tape. KAI scissors are wonderful. They are actually scissors for trimming Bonsai trees. Stampers use them for cutting ums (unmounted rubber). They are very sharp and cut through rubber like it was butter. I sell the Kai scissors for $15.00 plus $1.00 shipping. Let me know if I can ever help you with anything! I accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and checks. I just got my cards for my first swap EVER!! And I'm so exited by them that I just can't wait to go STAMP! Included were five VERY different cards: 1) From Becci- a hot pink bib coming off the the center fold with "It's a Girl!" safety pinned to it. I LOVE the ribbon woven around the neck-line. 2) From Jessica - baby foot prints in dark blue on a background of lightly sponged (?) pinks and purples over a blue granite card. I REALLY like the background effect and would like to know more about how it was achieved... 3)From Eileen - autumn colors of corregated paper, lightly rubbed with gold metallics, trimmed with a really tiny victorian style edge and held together with gold ribbon. I would never have thought to use these colors for an announcement, but I love it, especially for a November baby! 4)From Kim - pergamano technique with a bright yellow bib with a giraffe on vellum OVER a multitude ov colorfully embossed baby handprints. EXTREMELY GREAT! (How did you attach the vellum so the glue didn't show through?) 5)from Ruth - Bright pink background paper with fine white plaid lines with a mother holding a child (surrounded by baby things and stars) embossed in white with a baby related sticker in each corner. I really LOVE the Ribbons that are tied to the top center (pink and white) with the tiny pink plastic pacifier attached - great touch! But what surprised me most was the three pieces of baby background paper that was included in my package. I really look forward to using them! Thanks all for the great ideas! I really enjoyed my first time swapping... Now if we can only save rubbertown so we can keep playing! Thanks again, all! This time it is from Candi Walmsley. It is done on white confetti cs. On the front are two cute mice sitting with their backs showing and their tails intertwined looking up at a hand drawn moon. There are 2 red hearts intwined above the mices heads. Really cute. Thanks a lot Candi. After she managed to find my house in the outback, we got down to some serious "rolling-up-your-sleeves" fun. We did Suminagashi, bubble paper, and clear fingernail polish on black paper; messed with the Marvey Metallics on black, glossy paper (and did you know it looks FANTASTIC on glossy gold?), and Delta's Gold Highlighter over brayered paper. We tried Faux Paste paper with black acrylic, did some alcohol resist. After she had to leave in order to get back to town before tomorrow, I kept on playing. I did water color washes with salt and alcohol, and played abit with chalks. But the thing I had the most fun playing with was the four new "texture" stamps I had made earlier. Remember that rubber shelf liner that everyone was playing with awhile back? The one that is cushiony and heavily textured in a woven kind of pattern? Well, I cut a piece of it, maybe 6" x 4", and mounted it on some old double stick cushion I had and then stuck it on a block of wood. It looked like it would have tons of possibilities, so I made another one like it out of small bubble bubble wrap! Then I made ANOTHER one out of some stuff that looks like a cross between bubble wrap and styrofoam. Not to get carried away...but I found a placemat at the Dollar Store that was made from the same stuff as the shelfliner, but in a different open type pattern and I made ANOTHER one out of that!! I made these stamps all a couple of days ago, but didn't really get to play with them until today. This is what I did. First, I tried acrylics since they are thicker and more "structural". I had some cheap ones that I had gotten on sale here and there.. I squished a dollop of pearly teal blue/green on watercolor paper, then a dab of lighter blue, followed by some interference gold. Just kind of oozed it here and there on the paper. Next, I placed another piece of paper on top of the paint and kind of squoooshed them together and covered the surface of the both the papers, though not so much that they all became one intermediate color. While they were still wet, I pressed the styrofoam/bubblewrap type stamp into the wet acrylic and kinda of squiggled it abit, lifting it and putting it back down all over the paper. Then I brushed abit of dark blue acrylic onto the shelfliner stamp and stamped it over the rest, but not entirely covering the paper, only here and there. VERY pretty!!! Set it aside to dry and went on. This time I used my new pigment Petal Points. Browns, yellows, oranges and golds to start. I daubed and smooshed different pigment inks onto my paper directly from the little pads, starting with the lightest color first. I let a little of the creamy paper color show through in some spots. After I had the colors blended and all over the paper, I inked up the bubble wrap texture stamp with dark brown. TOO cool!!! I had polka dots!! Well,....you get the point! I tried different color combos, used the brayer on some, sprayed Delta Highlighter on others, and finished up with one or the other or even a combination of the texture stamps, sometimes inking them and sometimes just letting them work down through the layers of color. They ALL turned out WAY cool! And I would be willing to bet that you wouldn't even have to go through all this to get some neat effects with them. Just inking one up with pigment ink and daubing it on your background paper and maybe repeating it in a different color would be enough by itself. Then, of course, there's a whole WORLD of possibilities if you thow in some embossing powder!! Emboss over the texture and then brayer with dye ink?? Should sink down through the open places in spots, I'd think. Or sponge over the embossing? Or even use UTEE...stamp the texture and then cover the whole paper with embossing ink and UTEE? Or use the texture stamps on TOP of the UTEE?? Hmmmm....(glancing at the clock) I wonder if I REALLY need to sleep tonight? :) Redstick (onna VERY definite high :) redstic@intersurf.com http://www.intersurf.com/~redstic/Home.htm Redstick's Rubber Stamp and Paper Arts Page - - ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Mar 1998 21:00:42 -0600 From: "Michelle Klingaman" Subject: RubberTown: Catalog This is a multi-part message in MIME format. - ------=_NextPart_000_0004_01BD5443.3EB47DC0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Does anyone have a new Stamps Happen "98 for sale ??? If it's the money issue, it sounds like people will willlingly donate for the cost of the list. If it's the time, I'm not sure how we can help with that, but I'll bet we can try! Another person has offered to take responsibility for the list. I would hope that if you are unable to continue, you might be willing to help assist during the transition period.
