White" Subject: RubberTown: Baby Announcement Swap Received I have also received my swap cards. I got them a few days ago but things have been a little hectic, my SO graduated on Saturday and I'm having network problems on my computer. So I finally remembered to bring the cards to work with me. Anyway. I got three "baby" paper samples from Eileen along with a cute pacifier sticker. And here are the actual cards. Michelle Lee - A very simple, but elegant, notecard with "It's a Girl" stamped in purple and green glitter on the dots. And inside the baby's name is written with a silver pen. The card was enclosed in a "starry" envelope Ruth Kahn-Treadwell - Ruth's card was layered. Patterned pink paper was layered onto white cardstock and a mother and child ring design was embossed in white on top of this. She also added some "baby" stickers and a little pacifier tied on with ribbon. Kim Thompson - I absolutely love this card. It's a very simple vellum card. All over white cardstock Kim embossed little hadprints in different colors. and then on the vellum she dry-embossed a bib w/ a giraffe. She then colored the bib in yellow and attached the vellum onto the cardstock. Very nice. I'll have to remember this one when someone I know has a baby. Lori Croswell - Lori has just given me enough inspiration to try layering/collages. The front of the card is actually wallpaper glued onto the cardstock. And the main stamp is my favorite, a Cherished Teddy stamp, layered on top of mulberry paper? Also "It's a BABY Boy!!!" is embossed and cut into sections and layered onto the card along with a little satin ribbon. Talk about creativity. Lisa ? - Last but not least is a card on gorgeous glossy cardstock. Little hand and footprints are embossed in the corners and the center is a pair of hands holding a little bundle of joy. I loved all of my cards and my little extras. Now I really feel sorry for the people who ended up with my amateur efforts. Monica ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com - - ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 24 Mar 1998 13:12:35 EST From: "Monica A. White" Subject: RubberTown: You're Invited Swap Received I received this one a while ago and I'm sorry that I am just now posting about it. First off is a card from Glo? - I can't really read your name on the back. Elegant is the only way to describe this card. The "you're invited" information is embossed in gold on some sort of white "fiber" paper. This was layered onto burgundy cardstock. The corners were punched and a shimmery gold bow was glued on. Like I said, very elegant. Now from Barbara Thompson I gat a very cute card, and I don't even like dogs. The front has a little cut out circle with a dog in glasses inside. Stamped all over is little bones and streamers and a "Let's Party". Open it up and there's a dog holding a sunflower. The edges of this piece of cardstock was deckled and colored so that it looks as if the edges have been burned. Extremely cute. Kim Aiken sent in a small vellum wedding shower invitation. On light blue cardstock she has stamped and embossed "It's a Shower!" and the "you're invited" info. Onto this she has attached a clear vellum with little white specks all over it. Onto the vellum is a small bouquet of flowers, two pairs of weddign bands and a holographic sticker of another flower bouquet. Our wonderful host Kim Michels sent postcard/shaker card. She stamped different party/birthday themed stamps all over the card. Placed it in a clear envy and added tons of confetti. Those clear envelopes have a lot more meaning for me now. And last of all we have what is probably my favorite. It is ultra simple and has my favorite toy in the world, a teddy bear. Ululani Pomroy has made the simplest card I have ever seen but it's still great. It's just cardstock cut into the shape of a teddy bear. At his neck is tied a little satin ribbon bow. With you're invited stamped with a rainbow pad. Simple huh. A card doesn't have to be complicated to be a work of art. That's all folks. Thanks for the stickers Kim. I had of course heard about the system on RubberTown but noone ever has a picture of what it looked like exactly. And I for one have a very fertile imagination. Well I finally got a chance to see exactly what one looks like. And now I am seriously considering getting a full set and taking advantage of those wonderful um deals. In the grabbag you get a 1" X 1" HALOS block w/ hook already attached, 5 small ums with loop already attached. You also receive a handy-dandy little envelope and pattern (so you won't lose you ums). Barbara also sent two catalog pages of Creative Images stamps. Well I did a little math and the stamps alone cost more than the whole trial kit did. So you get at least one stamp, the velcro, the block, shipping, and labor for free. A great deal from a great vendor. Monica A. Thanks! >Dianne > Hello, Diane, You are about to have some fun. I have been adding pressed flowers to my cards ala Susan Pickering Rothamel for the past few weeks after purchasing her tape, which is so inspiring! I had quite a supply of pressed flowers and have used them all! SPR states in her tape that the Perfect Paper Adhesive she uses is a UV inhibitor and protects the flowers from fading. Before I got the PPA, I used Yes glue just on the undersides of the flowers. You can use the PPA over the tops of the flowers to protect them. You can also mix the PPA with Pearl Ex and make sort of a "paint" to embellish your cards with. It's very pretty. After the mixture dries in your palette well, you can take it out in a piece and punch shapes out of it with your punches. I've been drying and pressing flowers for years and haven't had too much trouble with them being brittle, even after years. If you dry them properly, I don't think this will be a problem. I just got a Microfleur and have been using it on the few flowers that are peeking their heads thru the wet ground here in MO. You do have to be careful and not overdry them in the microwave with this new gadget. If you're not in a hurry you can just dry them between heavy books. Use construction paper (white) to absorb the moisture and they shouldn't overdry. I store all my pressed flowers this way for years and they don't become brittle. I'm no expert, but I can tell you of my experiences, and BTW, I'm not affiliated with SPR! I wish..!
