From: Matt Subject: (utvgg) Test & Hello Date: 07 May 2001 17:48:05 -0600 (MDT) This is a test to see if I am properly subscribed and also a hello. As far as arcade games go, I exclusively collect laserdisc arcade game stuff. Here is a complete list of the items I have acquired (shameless grin:) Matt O's schlop --------------- Complete Games: Dragon's Lair Playable Games: Space Ace '83 (rom swap), Thayer's Quest (boardset swap, keyboard hack) Marquees: Dragon's Lair, Space Ace '83, Space Ace '91 (mint) Control Panels: Dragon's Lair Unapplied Control Panel Overlays: Space Ace '83 (mint), Space Ace '91 (mint) Side Art: Dedicated Space Ace '83 (mint) Conversion Kits: Space Ace '91 (complete, NOS), Thayer's Quest (partial) Discs: Cliff Hanger, Cobra Command, Dragon's Lair (4), Dragon's Lair II, Freedom Fighter, Space Ace '83, Space Ace '91, Thayer's Quest, Time Traveler I have 6 laserdisc players that all can be used to play laserdisc games. They are: LD-V1001, LDP-1450, CLD-V2600, LD-V6010A and LD-V8000 (broken), and a Hitachi VIP-9550. I also can get another CLD-V2600 for virtually free if anyone would be interested in playing Dragon's Lair or Space Ace on their PC. As far as old "consoles", I have an Atari 2600, an Atari 400 and an Atari 800XL. Although I guess it's nice to have the original stuff, these items don't mean much to me since the emulators for them as so good! I am a big fan of emulators =]. As far as old computers, I have traditionally been an Apple ][ guy and still have my beloved Apple ][gs setup next to my Dragon's Lair. I am looking for a Super Don Quix-ote laserdisc and then my collection will be "complete" for now. --Matt O - To unsubscribe to utvgg, send an email to "majordomo@lists.xmission.com" with "unsubscribe utvgg" in the body of the message. Date: 08 May 2001 13:15:08 -0600 Does anyone remember the Trolley Square arcade that used to be above Pizza Hut? Hard Rock Cafe is there now. Most of my classic arcade memories come from there. I played Lost Tomb, Gauntlet, and Ms. PacMan for the first time there. I also remember seeing Atari Breakout way back before color hit the videogame screens. They also had a cockpit Missile Command and the only I-Robot I've seen in a Utah arcade. I have a weird memory of the I-Robot that I'm hoping someone can confirm. It seems to me that it was in a white prototype case and not the standard Firefox black standup. When I acquired my I-Robot in 1995, I was surprised to see what the real case looks like. Anyone else have any memories of the classic Trolley arcade? - To unsubscribe to utvgg, send an email to "majordomo@lists.xmission.com" with "unsubscribe utvgg" in the body of the message. Most of my classic arcade memories come > from there. I played Lost Tomb, Gauntlet, and Ms. PacMan for the first I don't remember that arcade. The first arcade I went to was called Captain Video and it was in Los Angeles where we lived. I must've been around 7 years old at the time. That's where I first played games such as Donkey Kong, Dig Dug and Missile Command. And that's the second place I saw Dragon's Lair. It was in the middle of the arcade with a huge TV on top so evreyone could see the action. There was a huge line to play it. No one had seen anything that cool before, including me . Then we moved to Utah. I remember visiting the arcade inside the Dans on 7800 south and about 1300 east. And I remember going to the 49th Street Galleria and playing Gauntlet for the first time. I spent $5 on that game, which really seemed like a lot back then. I remember playing Karate Champ at Cherry Hill (is that place still around?) and getting to like the 6th stage and getting on the high score list. And right when we first moved to Utah we used to go to the Chuck E Cheese on 9400 south and approximately 700 east (the Nickelcade is there now, coincidentally enough) and that's where I first played Cliff Hanger. Dang, that game was the coolest thing I had ever seen!! I couldn't understand why anyone would want to play any of the other cheesy raster games when Cliffy was sitting there in full view. Another arcade I also used to visit a lot was the Gold Mine in Cottonwood Mall. It's gone now, unfortunately. But that's where I first saw Ikari Warriors (which was really awesome at the time hehe). I also first saw Gauntlet 2 there, and that is the only place I ever saw Thayer's Quest. I also remember going to Lagoon and playing their motion cockpit version of Afterburner II. I also have fond memories of playing the basketball game "Slam Dunk" there as well. I wish someone would emulate that game, I'd like to play it again ... And by the way, I have never seen an I-Robot. I played it on mame briefly, although I can't figure out what you're supposed to do hehe > I have a weird memory of the I-Robot that I'm hoping someone can confirm. > It seems to me that it was in a white prototype case and not the standard > Firefox black standup. I have an Asteroids and Tempest that I would like to have in the livingroom of my house. Here's my problem: the livingroom has soft fur wood floors (easily damaged) and the arcade machines have harsh metal screw-type discs (some are missing on the asteroids machine). I would like to put new feet on both machines that would allow for slight movement without damaging the floors. They are currently sitting on cardboard which looks bad. A few thoughts I've had are: rubber stopper type feet, some sort of fabric discs, etc. Both machines are just plywood on the bottom so just about anything could be screwed into the base. I'd prefer to keep the machines at their current height and not raise them up too much (no casters). Speaking from experience, I've dragged very heavy cabinets over unprotected wood floors and they don't leave a mark. My only thought about having them on a standup is the fact that it would allow your machine to slide back and forth with not very heavy touches. It would be worth a try anyway, and if they don't work, you can at least use them for moving things around. Another idea is a small rug for each machine. It would be more attractive than cardboard at least. - To unsubscribe to utvgg, send an email to "majordomo@lists.xmission.com" with "unsubscribe utvgg" in the body of the message. Cost about 2 dollars. Put all eight of them on the bottom of your cab to distribute the weight and you are in business. My entertainment center weighs 350 lbs easy, and I can move it myself (slowly) with no damage to the floor. You can't see them, it's cheap and only raises the cab about 1/4 inch. You can also buy "magic gliders" in various sizes which are some type of slippery plastic disc that fits under feet. They also had quite a bit of old Atari console stuff, as well as "celebrity" guests who helped create the old arcade games. the web site is http://www.cgexpo.com Maybe I will see you there =] - To unsubscribe to utvgg, send an email to "majordomo@lists.xmission.com" with "unsubscribe utvgg" in the body of the message.
