You can also hear him & Zorn on various discs on Incus, Derek Bailey's label, particularly the Company series. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- From proussel@ichips.intel.com Wed Feb 22 19:08:56 1995 Subject: Re: ZORN DIGEST #28 > >From gastarit@comm.net Wed Feb 22 12:25:30 1995 > Subject: Buckethead > > Heard via another list that JZ has a record label called "Avant" or something > like that. Wow, you should give us the name of such a well informed mailing-list? Maybe you are pulling our leg :-). I have never heard of such a thing (although it is a well known fact that Zorn is auto-producing tapes that he sells after the shows in order to be able to pay the rent; I guess that it is what this "Avant" is all about). The album is called Bucketheadland. It is out of print and unlikely to get reissued despite the fact that Tzadik is going to reissue most of the Avant releases. Most people didn't like it (I think it has some good spots.) There is another Buckethead CD that is far better, Giant Robot, and it has been released in Japan by Sony, but it appears highly unlikely that it will get US release and I don't think Sony will allow importing. The best track on Bucketheadland ("Welcome to Bucketheadland") is done in a much better version on Giant Robot. Other releases include loads of excellent Naked City releases, Fushitsusha's _Allegorical Misunderstanding_, and my favorite Boredoms album, _WOW 2_. --c. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- From simon@isys.king.ac.uk Thu Feb 23 09:31:28 1995 Subject: torture garden imagery I adore this record and am fascinated (being a Japanophile) by the photgraphic imagery on the cover, not to mention the illustrations by the japanese artist. The sleeve says they come from Zorn's private collection, but does anyone have further information on the origins of this material. simon lucas -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
