And I was wondering if any of you could tell me anything about the cover picture. In the cover notes it says "all photographs courtesty The Dr. Stanley B. Burns Collection Of Historic Medical Photography". But that picture sure doesn`t look like something out of a collection of historical medical photo- graphy. I remember seeing the picture in an issiue of Headpress. The guy who`s head is on the plate looks like Charles Bukowski :-) I`m thinking about buying the Macioce book Light And Dark. Any pictures of Zorn in that one? Can any of you guide me to places on the net where and can locate GIF`s or JPG`s of Zorn, Zorn covers etc.. etc...? I know about all (?) of Zorn`s records, but I know just about nothing about his life. Have there ever been written a biography on Zorn (electronic or on paper)? And does a Zorn FAQ exist? ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ [ Patrice, your fans await. ;) -Matt ] Jonas V. zoopsi@inet.uni-c.dk --------------------------------------------------------------------------- From LeeGar@aol.com Sun Apr 2 12:06:21 1995 Subject: Re: ZORN DIGEST #39 (CynicalHysterieHour) Hey, speaking of c.h.h. i'm willing to trade a mac based Radius Rocket 33 (w/ fpu) for a complete "cynical hysterie hour" and one other album/cd such as locus solos. i've upgraded to a ppc and am not using it anymore. let me know..... Masada will also be at this year's Victoriaville festival (along with David S Ware, Frisell's Buster Keaton thing, John Oswald's quartet and a whole lot more...) There was also rumour of Painkiller performing here in Toronto this spring. Apparently promoters balked when Zorn's folks mentioned that the Man wouldn't step foot in Canada for less that $10,000 US. hmmm.... Matt --------------------------------------------------------------------------- From mwittman@delphi.umd.edu Mon Apr 3 11:15:28 1995 Subject: Zorn tour dates.... I hate to be so vague here, but Painkiller will be playing not just in Chapel Hill, but also in DC sometime aroudn the end of April or in early May or something like that. I'll be able to find out more exact info in about an hour, and I know that it's at the Black Cat.... Let's just hope that it's not like the Masada thing that happened here, when they were lined up to play in Durham at Duke (Page Aud.) the same night they were going to be at the Black Cat here in DC. I happened to be in both places the weekend before, and managed to call up the Black Cat and tell them about the mix-up....they hadn't heard yet, and Masada got rescheduled for the night after. Thank god, it was the most amazing fucking show in jazz that I've seen in a while (since about the Art Ensemble of Chicago in the mid-80's...). Anyway, what's the line-up of the Painkiller band going to be? I only have the one CD "Buried Secrets" and know mighty little about the band otherwise.....it's just a staple on my radio show, like Zorn in general.... Michael Wittmann --------------------------------------------------------------------------- From rpeck@pure.com Mon Apr 3 19:27:55 1995 Subject: ZORN DIGEST #39 With all this talk about Masada lineups, I'll contribute that last year when they played here (SF) at The Great American Music Hall, Masada was Zorn, the current bass player (?), Ben Goldberg (clarinet) and Kenny Wolleson (drums). When they played a month or two ago at Radio Valencia, it was Kenny again on drums, but with Dave Douglas (?) on trumpet. I must say I enjoyed the lineup with Ben (who is also in The New Klezmer Trio) much more than with the trumpet player. Kenny's really good, but he's no Joey Baron. . . Hello all... I was glad to see this list exists!:) My name is Mark and I produce a 'free-form' radio show on a community FM station in Boulder/Denver, Colorado. The station is programmed by 100+ volunteers. We have genre oriented programs: International, hip-hop, folk, avant-garde, and all points between; and 'free-form,' where the genres are mixed up and presented in a way that flows texturally. These free form shows are not exiled to the wee hours: The Afternoon Sound Alternative is from 1-4pm weekdays, and Sleepless Nights from midnight to 3am 6 days a week. Both shows contribute heavily to KGNU's "hot" list of the 100 "most played" artists from our "gnu music bin." Our volunteer air talent (who can, literally, play just about anything they want) Nearly all Laswell, Frisell and Knitting projects end up on the list, as do most Zorn and Elektra Nonesuch. KGNU has a web site at: http://bcn.boulder.co.us/media/public_broadcasting/kgnu-guide/center.html Last night, Tue apr 4, I did a Bill Laswell Special on KGNU. The show was termed "Low End Transmissions" and included a number of different projects on many labels. I will be posting the playlist soon. The show was only three hours, which means I missed playing a lot of stuff. There will be another show, probably late summer or so. I tried, really tried, to get the show broadcast on-line, but it fell through at the last moment. We are now working on getting KGNU broadcast on-line 24hrs a day. I sent this as introduction, but also to let you know that adventurous music is getting played here! :) Mark hunter@dash.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
