With each release they seem to be taking their "thing" into more sophisticated grounds, and relying less and less on being real loud and fast (not that there isn't something to be said for being real loud and fast). The more they mix quieter textural passages with thrashy passages, the better it gets. I got a real sense of care for the individual sounds, as opposed to the massing whole, from this album. I guess its the best of the earlier stuff (which i like) and the "super roots" ep (which i love). I get a sense of children's songs when they do a melody. Does anyone know if they intentionally incorporate melodies from kids songs? ps. why is there no domestic distributor of Avant label stuff? Does no one want to handle it, or does J. Zorn want to keep it Japanese only? ------ "Finally, something that would bring people together...even if it kept them apart, spatially." --A.
