Does no one >want to handle it, or does J. Zorn want to keep it Japanese only? Avant (along with DIW) is distributed domestically by Sphere Marketing and Distribution. I never have had a problem finding any Avant releases. Well, there's a sucker born every day, and I guess the ultimate suckers are the ones who still believe they got a good deal even after realizing they've been had.... steev ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ From proussel@ichips.intel.com Tue May 23 16:51:53 1995 Subject: news concerning Tzadik Just got some information concerning upcoming releases from Tzadik (Zorn's domestic label) that might interest some of you: Out in July: Keiji Haino Shelley Hirsch (with David Weinstein) Richard Teitelbaum ("GOLEM", with Hirsch, Moss, etc) New Klezmer Trio Ground Zero (new lineup, including a member of Altered States) Derek (Bailey) and the Ruins ("SAISORO") Mystic Fugal Orchestra (EP by the Zorn-Eye duo; many EPs by this duo are planned!) The reissues: LOCUS SOLUS ELEGY KRISTALLNACHT are pushed in September (Tzadik taking care of the USA, and Evva (Japan) the rest of the world). Planned later this year, a Marc Ribot record playing late '70s guitar composi- tions by John Zorn. Needless to say, the May batch has just been released (Krakauer Trio, Ikue Mori, Ruins, Arnold Dreyblatt, Anthony Coleman). All right, we've gotta talk about this. I got the new RUINS disc last night. (Hydro....) Granted they are one of my favorite bands anyway, BUT... BOYOHBOYOHBOYOHBOYOHBOYOHBOY. Having a hard time thinking about much else right now. I think we should send the music on this CD to outer space as an indicator to other intelligent beings that we too have developed the highest levels of intelligence. (Sort of like sending the smartest little girl to represent the elementary school in the state spelling bee. "Gee, these earthlings sure are smart, just listen to this music!") Take a close look at the next Ruins show you go to--I'm sure they are going to start attracting higher life forms from other galaxies that have heard of the "most intelligent, and yet rocking music of the Ruins, from Earth." I hope to anyone who likes this band this much that you have access to the new album. (I'm in San Francisco, and it just got here yesterday--5/23/95) It's on Tzadik (Zorn's label for anyone who doesn't already know) and has a LOW DOMESTIC PRICE!!! Anyone who doesn't yet know about the Ruins--make every effort to find one of their CD's (maybe this new one?). I promise that it is one the most amazing things about this planet.
