Anyone have these? How do you get them? Last I heard they were holding off importing the Live in Japan disc until they were shrinkwrapped with the newly designed black plastic for our poor sensitive easily offended American eyes. No viewing an Asian woman grinding her stilleto heel into the testicles of a bound man while in the store ...all you sickos will have to wait until you get home with it! :) mike rizzi rizzi@tfs.com ------------------------------------------- rizzi@netcom.com -=work=- "Another nerd with a soulpatch" -=home=- http://www.meer.net/~browbeat/ -------- browbeat magazine, po box 11124, oakland, ca 94611-1124 --------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- From sherman@lclark.edu Fri Jun 9 14:22:30 1995 Subject: Live Tape trades Hi, I'm a new subscriber to this list looking for any unofficial recorded live shows by Zorn. I was sitting in a movie theatre the other day waiting for the show to start, and on the speakers they were playing a version of Stravinsky's "Rites of Spring" that I swear *had* to have John Zorn playing sax in it. Can anyone give me any information on this? Am I off my rocker, imagining things, or what? You should definitely try: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Downtown Music Gallery (the best store in NYC for this kind of music) 211 East 5th Street New York, N.Y. 10003 Tel: (212) 473-0043 Fax: (212) 533-5059 The best place in NYC (in the world?) to find records from musicians of the NY downtown scene (Sharp, Zorn, etc). Many people have been able to get very hard to find records (like Zorn on Japanese labels) through it. They don't have a catalog but this is what Jeff Spirer told me: ... You may want to be put on his Zorn list, he (Bruce) has a bunch of people he calls whenever Zorn stuff comes in. He can call you toll-free (I don't know if you know about this) at 800-547-8806 and then give them your extension. Where else could you find a copy of ARCHERY for ... $200 and the first singles of Glenn Branca and the Theoretical Girls for $50? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Also, do not neglect the Tower Records in the Village, distribution is such a black magic that you never know what you gonna find :-). There is also a video store (Kim's Video? I don't remember its name) which has a small record section with hard to find imports (that you would never expect to find there!). I think the store is on LaGuardia (spelling), in the Village. I'm not sure what the deal with them is, anyway--with Alef there was a page and a half of stuff in Japanese, plus the song listings for all four CDs. However, my copies of Beit and Gimel just have a small white piece of paper with some Japanese writing on it. I don't know if all the copies are like that or not. In any case, I'm interested in finding out what the notes say, and since I know no one who can read Japanese, I figured I'd ask you people. For that matter, what do the song titles mean? In related news, I turned 21 just in time to miss seeing Painkiller by two weeks...damn those ID shows! Hmmm, I missed seeing Borbetomagus tonight, too, but that was just because of laziness. -- Charles Gillett P.S. I can see you out there, Evilshawn. I just found a page on WWW which I think might be of interest to people on this list. It's called "Virtual Radio", and it features "new music". It gives you the ability to download samples or entire songs of different bands. Presently Praxis and Painkiller are featured among others. Definitely worth checking out! If this is old news, go easy on me! I very rarely "surf" the web... The URL is: http://www.microserve.net/vradio/ Bye Johan ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
